SUNDAY OF THE FATHERS OF THE 1 st ECUMENICAL COUNCIL May 8, 2016 ANTIPHON 1: All you peoples, clap your hands; shout to God with cries of gladness. The most high Lord is fearsome, great King over all the earth. He subjected peoples under us and nations under our feet. God has ascended with acclaim, the Lord with sound of trumpet. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. Only Begotten Son. ANTIPHON 3: Come let us rejoice in the Lord; Let us sing joyfully to God our Savior. Son of God, Who ascended in glory, save us who sing to you: Alleluia. Let us come before Him, giving thanks, with songs let us hail the Lord. Son of God, Who ascended in glory, save us who sing to you: Alleluia. A mighty God is the Lord, and a great king over all the earth. Son of God, who ascended in glory, save us who sing to you. Alleluia. ENTRANCE HYMN: Come, let us worship and bow before Christ. O Son of God, exalted in glory, save us who sing to you. Alleluia. TROPAR: While Mary (Magdalene) was standing at your tomb in search of your most pure Body, angelic powers appeared and the guards were mortified. You took hell captive; it could not overcome you. You revealed yourself as the source of life to the virgin. O Lord, risen from the dead, glory to you. TROPAR: You ascended in glory O Christ our God. You gladdened your followers by promising the Holy Spirit. By Your blessing they were assured that You are the Son of God, the Redeemer of the world. TROPAR: Glorified are You, Christ our God, who established our fathers as luminaries on earth and guided all of us by them in the true faith. All-merciful Lord, glory to You. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

KONDAK: The apostles preaching and the father s teaching confirmed the church in a single faith. Vested in a garment woven from the fabric of sublime theology, she rightly teaches and glorifies the great mystery of divine worship. Now and forever and ever. Amen. KONDAK: When you fulfilled the Father s plan for us and united all things on earth with those of heaven above, O Christ our God, you ascended in glory. But in no way have you left us, for you abide constantly with us and proclaim assuringly to all who love you: I am with you and no one has any power over you. PROKIMEN: Blessed are You, Lord God of our fathers; may Your name be praised and glorified forever. You are just in everything You did for us. A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (20:16-18a & 28-38) In those days, Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus so as not to lose time in Asia, for he was eager to get to Jerusalem by the feast of Pentecost, if at all possible. Paul sent word from Miletus to Ephesus, summoning the presbyters of that church. "Keep watch over yourselves, and the whole flock the Holy Spirit has given you to guard. Shepherd the church of the God, which he has acquired at the price of his own blood. I know that when I am gone, savage wolves will come among you who will not spare the flock. From your own number, men will present themselves distorting the truth and leading astray any who follow them. Be on your guard, therefore. Do not forget that three years, night and day, I never ceased warning you individually even to the point of tears. I command you now to the Lord, and to that gracious word of his, which can enlarge you, and give you a share among all who are consecrated to him. Never did I set my heart on anyone's silver or gold or envy the way he dressed. You yourselves know that these hands of mine have served both my needs and those of my companions. I have always pointed out to you that it is by such hard work that you must help the weak. You need to recall the words of the Lord Jesus himself, who said, "There is more happiness in giving than receiving.'" ALLELUIA: The God of Gods, the Lord has spoken and summoned the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. Alleluia (3). Assemble his faithful ones before him, those who made a covenant with him by sacrifices. Alleluia (3).

Gospel John 17:1-13 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. "I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name the name you gave me so that they may be one as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled. "I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. Instead of It is truly right Extol, my soul, the Lord exalted gloriously in the flesh above the heavens. All of us believers, with one accord, proclaim your greatness as the Mother of God, for in time you gave birth to the timeless One, defying words and human understanding. COMMUNION: Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise him in the highest. Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous ones; praise from the upright is fitting. Alleluia (3). The Memorare REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
