FAITH at WORK Faith Lutheran Church June 2017 Sisters and brothers in Christ - What do you like for your birthday? Do you like a cake? A quiet day in? A trip? How do you like to spend your day? We are coming up on the birthday of the church - Pentecost. Instead of a cake decked with candles and gifts wrapped in bright paper we instead celebrate the Holy Spirit blowing into the world and alighting on the heads of pilgrims gathered in Jerusalem for a festival. Instead of focusing on me, me, me, our eyes are instead opened to see our neighbors around us. Through the last year, since you called me as pastor, I have seen the Holy Spirit blowing through the people here: through friends and families, through the lives that we know we effect and those that are a mystery, from quilts to youth group, from FISH to Lutheran World Relief, from the ELCA Global barnyard to board games, from work with the Oregon Synod to Luther House. (Continued from page 1) FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH 2017 On the day of Pentecost thousands of years ago, God blew into the lives of a frightened group of disciples and caused them to speak in all tongues. On this Pentecost and this year, may our eyes be reopened by the Holy Spirit to what we are called to. Peace in Christ, Pastor Mark STAFF Pastor The Rev. Mark B. Office Manager Carol O. Both will visit soon for face-to-face interviews and an orientation to campus, community, and Luther House. Please continue to pray for God s direction as a new campus pastor is chosen. Once a candidate is recommended to Council and endorsed by the synod, more information will be shared about who our next campus pastor is. Thanks to all members of the Call Committee for their diligence in discerning this next phase of vital ministry to the campus community. Student Names Please. It s that time of year when high school seniors are making final decisions about which college, university, community college, or technical school to attend. If they happen to be coming to Oregon State, Linn-Benton Community College, or Wester Oregon University, please introduce them to us at info@luther-house.org by sending us their name, address, email, and phone contacts so we can invite them to be part of Lutheran Campus Ministry where they ll find friends, receive plenty of support, and nurture their spirits.
