WELCOME IN THE NAME OF JESUS! LIVING SAVIOR LUTHERAN CHURCH welcomes you as you join with us in worship this day. May the Holy Spirit bless you with the message you hear from God s Word, the prayers, the hymns, and the fellowship we share with you. Here is some information you might find helpful: A Nursery/Family Room is in the Family Life Center next to the offices. The service can be viewed and heard in there through a closed circuit screen. Restrooms are located in the Family Life Center. Please fill out attendance note pad in pews and place your sheet in the offering plate or hand to an usher. We ask guests and members to fill them out each week. Please let us know if we can help you in any way. HOLY COMMUNION: We are very glad that you have joined us today for this worship service where we hear the Word of God and receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. This church is in fellowship with other congregations of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. As such, we believe and practice the biblical teaching that we receive the true Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in, with and under the bread and the wine of the Sacrament (Matthew 26, Mark 14 and Luke 22). If you have a different understanding of Communion or are still learning about this biblical teaching, we love you enough to ask you not to receive Holy Communion this morning (1 Corinthians 11). However, you are welcome to come forward for a blessing at the time of Communion. If later you have any questions about this or any other teachings, the pastor would be very pleased to talk with you. THE WAY OF PEACE Blessed be the Lord God! The words of Zechariah the priest recorded in chapter 1 of Luke s Gospel have been echoed by faithful worshipers through generations. We rejoice in the coming of Jesus, our Messiah, who shows us the tender mercy of our God. As He illuminates our steps, our Savior guides our feet into the way of peace. That peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. With Paul, we can be sure that, in our worship and in all parts of our lives, the God of peace will be with us. PRE-SERVICE MUSIC (Hymns for today s worship will be played.) RINGING OF THE BELLS (Please take time now to fill out the attendance record book located in the pew and place it in the offering plate later in the service.) CALL TO WORSHIP (CHOIR): THANK YOU, LORD M/M Seth Sykes WELCOME / ANNOUNCEMENTS WE CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD (Please stand if you are able.) In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. OPENING SENTENCES Psalm 29:11; 34:14 15 The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and His ears toward their cry. Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. May the Lord give strength to His people! May the Lord bless His people with peace! OPENING HYMN: O LORD, OUR LORD, HOW MAJESTIC IS YOUR NAME LSB 978 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth (2x) O Lord, we praise Your name. O Lord, we magnify Your name: Prince of Peace, Mighty God, O Lord God Almighty. 1981 Meadowgreen Music Company; admin. EMI. Used by permission: LSB Hymn License.NET, no. 100013105. CALL FOR CONFESSION (Please be Seated) As children of God who desire to be at peace with our Lord, with ourselves, and with all people, let us come with confidence before the throne of grace to confess our sins and to receive absolution. Almighty God, who speaks peace to His people, Your salvation is near to all who fear You. We know well that we are by nature sinful and unclean and that we have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed. Grant us Your mercy, and spare us from the just punishment of our sin, which our Lord Jesus Christ has borne for us on the cross. Renew us by Your Holy Spirit that we may walk in the way of peace both now and forever. Amen. 3

LORD, HAVE MERCY Mark 10:47 In peace let us pray to the Lord. For the peace from above and for our salvation let us pray to the Lord. For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all let us pray to the Lord. For this holy house and for all who offer here their worship and praise let us pray to the Lord. Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord. GOD FORGIVES OUR SINS God has promised to grant His forgiveness to all who repent of their sins and turn to Him for mercy. As a servant of Christ and by His authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. God keep you in perfect peace, lead you in ways of faith and obedience, and bring you to live with Him forever, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. HYMN OF PRAISE: BLESS WE NOW OUR GRACIOUS LORD Gregory J. Wismar 1 Bless we now our gracious Lord For the working of His Word And the promise we have heard; Our salvation is assured! Since from sin we have release, let us walk the way of peace. 2 Everlasting praise we bring And with all creation sing Saints and angels echoing Glory to our God and King! With sincerity we pray, Jesus, keep us safe this day. 4

3. May the Lord our pathways bless As His mercy we confess. May our strength-ened lives express Our unending thankfulness. May God s glory for use be Light that shines eternally. Text: Copyright 2018 Concordia Publishing House. All rights reserved. Used by permission. Tune: Public domain GREETING The Lord be with you. And also with you. PRAYER OF THE DAY Let us pray. Almighty and ever-living God, You have given exceedingly great and precious promises to those who trust in You. Grant us so firmly to believe in Your Son Jesus that our faith may never be found wanting; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS WORD GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS PROPHET 1 Kings 17:8 16 Then the word of the LORD came to him, Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you. So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, Bring me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. And as she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand. And she said, As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. And now I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die. And Elijah said to her, Do not fear; go and do as you have said. But first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterward make something for yourself and your son. For thus says the LORD the God of Israel, The jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty, until the day that the LORD sends rain upon the earth. And she went and did as Elijah said. And she and he and her household ate for many days. The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the LORD that he spoke by Elijah. Lector: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. (CHOIR) BLESSED JESUS AT YOUR WORD Franklin Ashdown GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS APOSTLE Hebrews 9:24 28 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. 5

Lector: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. PSALM 107 Psalm 107:1 2, 41 42; antiphon: v. 8 Women: Men: Let them thank the LORD for His steadfast love, for His wondrous works to the children of men! Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from trouble. He raises up the needy out of affliction and makes their families like flocks. The upright see it and are glad, and all wickedness shuts its mouth. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS SON Mark 12:38 44 The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the twelfth chapter. Glory to You, O Lord. In his teaching Jesus said, Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation. And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on. CHILDREN S MESSAGE This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, O Christ. HYMN OF THE DAY: SINCE OUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST, CHRIST JESUS LSB 529, tune of 901 1 Since our great High Priest, Christ Jesus, Bears the name above all names, Reigning Son of God, surpassing Other titles, pow rs and claims Since to heav n our Lord has passed, Let us hold our witness fast! 2 Since we have a priest who suffered, Knowing weakness, tears, and pain, Who like us was tried and tempted, Unlike us, without a stain Since He shared our lowly place, Let us boldly seek His grace. 6

3 Sacrifice and suff ring over, Now He sits at God s right hand, Crowned with praise, no more an outcast, His pre-eminence long-planned; Such a great High Priest we have, Strong to help, supreme to save. 1973 The Jubilate Group; admin. Hope Publishing Co. Used by permission: LSB Hymn License.NET, no. 100013105. GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH OUR PASTOR: ONE PRIEST, ONE SACRIFICE AND ONE SALVATION Hebrews 9:24-28 CATECHISM (Please Stand) The First Article In the First Article of the Apostles Creed, we confess that God is our Creator and our Preserver. Not only does He graciously give us life, He also sees to it that we have all we need to support our body and life from year to year. We acknowledge His fatherly protection as we confess together: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. What does this mean? I believe that God has made me and all creatures; that He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my reason and all my senses, and still takes care of them. He also gives me clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, spouse and children, land, animals, and all I have. He richly and daily provides me with all that I need to support this body and life. He defends me against all danger and guards and protects me from all evil. All this He does only out of fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me. For all this it is my duty to thank and praise, serve and obey Him. This is most certainly true. PRAYER OF THE CHURCH (Please be Seated) Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. We bless You, O God, for the gift of the Church, for our family of faith, and our place of fellowship and growth. As the Church, grant that we continue to walk in the way of faithfulness, joyfully proclaiming the message of salvation and sharing the gifts You have given. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. We thank You, O God, for the world in which we live and for the human family of which we are a part. Grant that all who are in positions of leadership around the globe find ways of cooperation and that the leaders of our nation, state, and local communities seek to do that which brings blessing to all people and serves the common good. Today we remember our armed forces and the veterans of our 7

nation, thanking You for the sacrifices they have made. Help us to walk in the way of peace as bringers of blessing. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. When You created the world, O God, You called it good. We know that sin has darkened and marred much of that original good creation. Direct us in the way of wise stewardship that we leave a beneficial legacy for those who come after us until the time of the return of Christ, who will establish a new heaven and a new earth. In mercy, O Lord, hear our prayer. Lord, You know our needs and the needs of others even before we speak of them with our words or in our hearts. Graciously hear our petitions for those who are hospitalized or ill, for those who are shut in or find their lives limited in some way, for those whose work is unfulfilling or have no work at all, for those who are grieving on this day, and those who seek some special blessing, [especially...], that their lives know Your presence. Direct us into the way of sacrificial service that we ever be bringers of hope. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen. WE WORSHIP GOD WITH OUR OFFERINGS (The offering time is an opportunity for all of us to give thanks to God for the many ways He has blessed us. Members and regular attendees support God s mission and ministry as He works through this congregation. Guests are welcome to give an offering, but are not expected to do so. Psalm 54:6; 116:12-14, 17) OFFERTORY HYMN: GRACIOUS GOD, YOU SEND GREAT BLESSINGS LSB 782 Gracious God, You send great blessings New each morning all our days. For Your mercies never ending, For Your love we offer praise. Refrain Lord, we pray that we, Your people Who Your gifts unnumbered claim, Through the sharing of Your blessings May bring glory to Your name. 2004 Gregory J. Wismar. HOLY IS THE LORD Isaiah 6:3; Matthew 21:9 PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING We thank You, almighty God, that Your presence remains in our lives and days. According to Your holy plan You have created us and have called us as Your people. Accept our thanks for all that You have done for us in the past, for all that You are doing for us in these days, and for all that You will do for us at the end of time. Send Your Holy Spirit that we walk in the peaceable way of our Lord Jesus Christ, in whom we have redemption and forgiveness of sins. THE WORDS OF OUR LORD Matthew 26:26 28; Mark 14:22 24; Luke 22:19 20; 1 Corinthians 11:23 25 Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me. In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. PROCLAMATION OF CHRIST As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord s death until He comes. 1 Corinthians 11:26 Come, Lord Jesus. Revelation 22:20 THE LORD S PRAYER O Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, in giving us Your body and blood to eat and to drink, You lead us to remember and confess Your holy cross and passion, 9

Your blessed death, Your rest in the tomb, Your resurrection from the dead, Your ascension into heaven, and Your coming for the final judgment. So remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Matthew 6:9-13 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory Forever and ever. Amen. PEACE OF THE LORD The peace of the Lord be with you always. DISTRIBUTION HYMNS (Please be seated) LAMB OF GOD LSB 550 1 Your only Son, no sin to hide, But You have sent Him from Your side To walk upon this guilty sod, And to become the Lamb of God. Refrain: O Lamb of God, sweet Lamb of God, I love the holy Lamb of God! O wash me in His precious blood, My Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. 2 Your Gift of love they crucified, They laughed and scorned Him as He died: The humble King they named a fraud, And sacrificed the Lamb of God. MY HOPE IS BUILT ON NOTHING LESS LSB 575 1 My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus blood and righteousness; No merit of my own I claim But wholly lean on Jesus name. Refrain: On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand. 3 His oath, His covenant and blood Support me in the raging flood; When ev ry earthly prop gives way, He then is all my hope and stay. Refrain 4 When He shall come with trumpet sound, Oh, may I then in Him be found, Clothed in His righteousness alone, Redeemed to stand before His throne!
