Greetings, families and friends of University Church! I love this time of year! This season offers such rich opportunities to celebrate gratitude and to be intentional in preparing our hearts to welcome the arrival of the Prince of Peace in our world. As we look around at the changes in color, scenery, and air, may we be inspired to reflect on where we as individuals and as a church have been, to consider where we have experienced God s presence this year. Some of our stories may involve celebrations like getting a job, moving to another town, beginning a new school year. While we celebrate new beginnings and affirm God s blessings in our lives, we also experience loss because every beginning includes an ending. Even a change for the better necessitates saying good-bye to the past. Beginnings and endings are two sides of the same coin. We see those in the life of Jesus, as well. Think of his life. He was the Son of God who emptied himself to come to us in human form. He cried out to the Father at Gethsemane before his crucifixion, even though he knew he would be raised from the dead. After his resurrection, he said good-bye to his disciples in preparation for his ascension. The victorious life of our Lord was filled with change, with beginnings and endings. The losses in his life ultimately led him to be raised from the dead and opened a way for us to be reconciled to God. Like Jesus, may we remember that we are the people who walk the road to resurrection in every moment of our lives because we follow in the steps of our Risen Lord. Friends, as this year continues to draw to a close, may we keep our eyes on the Lord who traveled this road before us, and may we always follow in his way of resurrection and new life. Blessings, Rev. Hee Jung Yu

Join in Advent / Christmas preparations as we look forward to this season! Children are rehearsing for December 9 program, so please make sure yours get to 11:10-11:30 rehearsals in the south classroom (in the center of upper patio). Leslie Kowalski is eager to sing with the children (YOUR help is also welcome) every Sunday after worship through December 2 for It All Happened in The Country. Singing in the choir is DEVINE especially when rehearsing for the December 2 cantata. Join in the fun on Wednesday evenings at 6:45 PM, beginning a joyous choir year this fall. Finger foods and Christmas cookies are desired December 9. It wouldn t be quite right to have the children wait until AFTER our usual second-sunday potluck before their program. Bring your favorite holiday snack to share after the children s Christmas program. Attention Movie Lovers This month, the Movie Lovers group will meet one week earlier than usual, on Tuesday, November 13, to see the first showing of the chosen film, hopefully starting between 10 and 11 a.m. Which movie we see, and which theater we go to, depends on what s showing that week, and that will be announced in worship the Sunday before the gathering. Our discussion after the film will be at either Las Fuentes or Farmer Boys. The $5.00 price at the Studio Movie Grill makes that theater attractive, but the timing of the film may make the Harkens theatre the better option. If you want to know more, please contact George Crisp: (909) 810-1151. Volunteer to work with Franklin Elementary Students? Volunteers who want to interact with students must: 1)Have a clear TB test, and 2)Turn in the Redlands Unified School District Volunteer Application to the school office.
