CELEBRATING BETH FREESE DAMMERS Next Sunday, July 13, will be the final Sunday for Beth Freese Dammers as interim pastor at First Pres. Checks should be made payable to First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights, with Beth Freese Dammers in the memo line (these gifts are not tax-deductible). GENERAL ASSEMBLY DECISIONS During the week of June 14-21, the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) made some significant decisions on same-sex marriage, the definition of marriage, and divestment from several companies that provide equipment to the Israeli military. A summary of these decisions is available at the Welcome Center in the Narthex. An open forum will be held Wednesday, July 30 at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary to discuss these decisions and how they affect First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights. Mark your calendars, because Paul Rusesabagina, the Rwandan hotel manager on whose life experience the movie Hotel Rwanda was based, will be the First Pres 2014 Anniversary Speaker. Rusesabagina also told his story in his autobiography, An Ordinary Man. During the 1994 Rwandan genocide, the hotel, under his leadership, was the only public place where people were safe. Rusesabagina saved the lives of more than 1,200 people. On Sunday, September 28, Rusesabagina will describe his experiences during the horrific genocide; the terror and the helplessness of the people he sheltered; and the ways in which governments, nongovernmental organizations, and ordinary people can work together to prevent genocide throughout the world. Tell your friends and neighbors about this incredible opportunity to listen and learn from Rusesabagina about the harrowing experience of surviving and protecting others from the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Bring your copy of An Ordinary Man for signing. Copies will also be available for purchase.

More News FOOD BARRELS Several organizations benefit from donations of nonperishable food items to the deacons food barrels. Food has been shared through our PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) ministry with those who are homeless; provided to clients of Faith Community Homes; and given to WINGS (Women In Need Growing Stronger) for its food pantry at the Mount Prospect location. The next time you are at the grocery store, why not pick up a few items to donate? Thank you for your past and continued support! FLOWERS IN WORSHIP Presbyterian Women s Flower Committee accepts donations for flowers for the Chapel and Sanctuary services throughout the year. These donations celebrate or honor special occasions or loved ones. After worship services, a deacon delivers these flowers to members who are unable to attend worship, allowing a chance to visit, drop off a bulletin, and leave lovely blooms. This caring ministry is much appreciated. Please consider making a contribution. Order forms are available at fpcah.org/forms and outside the church offices, near the elevator.
