Letters to Home Hi Mom and Dad, While this letter will find you in the month of June, it feels like Spring has finally sprung last month. This Spring has been unusually chilly and slow. I heard so many comments from people about waiting on Spring and having a hard time for what was certain to come, but slow to be realized. The scriptures talk a great deal about waiting on God. The Israelites waited on God to deliver them from Pharaoh and, although God promised at the burning bush that He would deliver His people, it still took a long time for the plagues and the deliverance. Even yet a longer time to enter the promised land, and even yet a longer time for the Messiah to be present in Jesus. Sometimes it seems we wait on God. However, God is always working, even in the waiting. Just as God was fighting for His people while they were enslaved by Pharaoh, He is fighting for us today as well. As you wait for your marriage to improve, God is at work in you and your spouse. As you wait for healing, God is at work in your body. As you wait to become more bold or confident, God is at work in your mind and heart. So what can we do? Watch for God at work. We can be on watch as we sit still or in silence, spend time in prayer and scripture, and pay attention to where God might be in our circumstances. Habakkuk 2:1 encourages us to wait and watch for God. Work. Once you get a glimpse of where God is and what He s doing, step in and be a part of it! Though God hasn t fulfilled all of the promises in your life, He still has people and places in your life today that He wants you to invest in. Don t wait to get involved in God s work! The time is now. Waiting is hard, and often there s no way around it. But rest assured - as you wait, God is fighting for you. Not only that, but ultimately, your waiting will be worth it as you discover the fulfillment of God s promises. Here at Delphi UMC,we are watching as we pray about new ministry opportunities, we are working this month through VBS, Jamaican missions, and Youth summer camp. And still we wait to see what God is doing next. Peace, Marriage and Family Life Ministries Pastor Sheri Rohrer Nurture Your Marriage I often hear couples who are also parents say that they don t have time for dates any longer because of the activities of parenthood. Many couples put their kids as their first priority. I agree that parenthood can be a very busy time in our lives. However, once you become parents, your marriage matters more, not less, because now other people are counting on you. Your children are watching you model how to be in a marital relationship, how to communicate, how to fight, how to love and how to forgive. They are watching how to expect to be treated by a spouse and how to love and honor a spouse. So make your marriage a priority, make time to invest in each other and your relationship. Your marriage is worth it! Your children are worth it! Parent Corner Live with joy, real joy. Joy is different than happiness. Happiness is based on your mood or circumstances. Joy is deeper. Joy is the deep wellspring within that fosters hope no matter what your circumstances are. God is our source of joy. We know that nothing can separate us from God and His love and it s that assurance that gives us joy and strength. To help our kids acquire joy Encourage gratitude for even the small things Be a kid with them laugh heartily, jump in a mud puddle, or run through the sprinkler with them Turn VBS songs on loud and sing with joy and dance like crazy Todd, Rhonda, Jordan, Elijah and Hannah

If you are feeling guilty because of the way someone feels, you have crossed a boundary. That boundary is that you have now taken on the responsibility for another s feelings. Put quite frankly, you re not that powerful. If you are adjusting what you do because of how another person reacts or will feel, you are giving up your freedom you are allowing yourself to be a slave to the other s emotions. We are each responsible for our own emotions, which also means the only one we can control is our self. If we are feeling guilty, it is our guilt and we have to wrestle with why we are giving up our freedom to be an individual. We are never responsible for another; each person should own their own emotions, but we are responsible to one another. That means we are responsible to love one another well, but only in the true freedom to be our independent true selves. Then we are free to love for love s sake, not out of guilt. Words of Praise from 2018 Prayer Vigil EXIT RAMP TO PRAYER, JOY AND PRAISE Blood Pressure Checks Sunday, June 3 rd Between services in the office area. Prayer Ministry Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 To be useful in the Kingdom, we need to spend time alone with God in prayer and meditation so we can be ready to share how God has worked, and is working in our life, to someone who is needing to hear some Good news for a change. Our testimony is not by words only; our actions sometimes speak louder than our words. Will you be ready for this assignment of leading souls to Jesus today? Do you want to be a prayer warrior for the Kingdom at DUMC? We have many ways to pray for others. We must never give up praying! I lose sight so often of how much you ve done for me, but God, I am so grateful. You truly are the God who can do immeasurably more than I could ever ask or imagine. You have given me a family to love, a church to worship in and a life that I can spread joy and love throughout the world. Thank you, Lord. You have always been there for me. I praise you.

Prayer Update In early April, I asked you to pray about several things. We asked you to pray regarding a worship leader. We are still looking for help, but in the meantime, we are asking Benjamin Beeks and Emily Hudson to step in as Worship interns. They will work primarily with the second service leading the worship, selecting music and leading rehearsals. Finances during the month of April improved dramatically and, so far in May, they are staying even. Our January and February, however, were so weak we are finding it difficult to make up ground. With the Finance team, we are making $15,000 of budget cuts from our local ministry. This is a proactive step while we encourage our givers to catch up with their giving. As we have analyzed the data, it seems that we are about 12% behind across most givers from last year. In other words, we have not lost any people; it is rather most are behind just a small bit and, when added up, it makes a large amount. The new ministry opportunity is still in an evaluative process - this includes wisdom regarding the sale of land on our site. I am asking you now to pray for our wisdom in adding this ministry and also, favor in connecting with like-minded people in this ministry. Ask God to reveal to our leaders that this is the direction to take the church. June Food Pantry Item: Cereal Hunger knows no season. For many, right here in our community, hunger is real, every day. With school being out for summer, the family budget for food just increased and, for some, created a large deficit. Your continuing, generous donations ensure that there will continue to be enough food for the families in our community. Thank you for caring enough... For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat Matthew 25:35 Families, you re in for a treat this summer!! No 4th Sunday ~Youth For All Not meeting during June or July! See you in August! You held me for the first time, with arms so strong, but unsure Filled with pure, selfless love, hope and countless dreams. There were tea parties, baseball games, 4-H, friends and fun Curfews, dances, kisses on the head, and the talk. You were my first super hero, my knight in shining armor You taught me so many things, Dad. To fish, mow the grass, even take out the trash, How to change the oil in the car that one day would be mine. You taught me to respect myself and others I would meet To smile, be polite, use kind words, to show love. Our path wasn t always easy, far from it, at times. But even in uncertainty of where our paths would go, Through ups and downs and all around, Dad, you re my rock, my protector You re the strength in our family.
