Rev. Mike Winters, Pastor Ben Harding, Music Director Hannah Grace Mullins, Youth Director Dr. Ray Jones, Jr., Pastor Emeritus WISE BAPTIST NEWS A PUBLICATION FOR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF WISE BAPTIST CHURCH April 9, 2019 A place for faith and fellowship with family and friends. Dear Church Family and Friends, On Sunday, our Music Director, Ben Harding tendered his resignation. We receive his announcement with mixed emotions. We are thankful for his time and service. We will miss Ben, his wife, Kiera, and son, Ezra. We pray God s blessings upon them. We celebrate his pursuit of God s calling. As for Wise Baptist Church, we trust in God s continued guidance. On another subject, the college basketball championship between the University of Virginia and Texas Tech was captivating. Part of the UVA story began last year. They were the number one seed in their region and lost to the last-seeded team, Murray State. UVA coach Tony Bennett gave insight into the team s journey. He referred to the loss to Murray State last year as a painful gift. What does that mean? Murray State did not give this gift. It was a gift because of how UVA team chose to see it. It was painful. The team made it an occasion for re-evaluation and renewed commitment. They team became mentally tougher. They did not panic when the games were close. What is your painful gift? It is not something you wanted. It is painful. The Apostle Paul experienced painful gifts. He says in Romans 8:28, in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. God does not give (inflict) this gift. A painful experience can become a gift if we allow God to teach us through it. It can deepen our faith and dependence on Him. We can gain a profound ability to touch hurting people. We can learn to appreciate the gift of life. Choose to let God use your painful gift. To God be the glory! MUSIC * YoUth * ChIldren S news Music Ministry Dear Friends, It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you that I am resigning as Director of Music of Wise Baptist Church. However, my heart is not heavy with regret, but with thanksgiving as I have learned a tremendous amount about myself in my tenure here at the church. The love and support shown to my family and me while here has been a solid foundation that we have been able to stand on while pushing through some of life s hardest events. I truly believe that it is this love and support that has fostered the spiritual growth that I have experienced while here. Two years ago, I was fulfilling my duties as a pastor within the United Methodist Church while exploring my call to ministry when I had to step back and reflect upon several things happening in my life. During my time of reflection, Wise Baptist granted me the opportunity to relearn who I was within my identity in Christ, allowing me to rebuild myself into the man of God that I should aspire to be. Because of this growth, I must step out on faith and finish exploring this call. I feel as Jonah did when he was running from God, and I am ready to stop running and do what God has called me to do with my life. My resignation will be effective Sunday, June 30, 2019. Once again, thank you for the opportunity, love and support shown to my family and me while we have been here. We love each and every one of you.
