* MV 79 Spirit, Open My Heart A Time for Young Worshippers The Giving Tree Refrain: Spirit, open my heart to the joy and pain of living. As you love may I love, in receiving and in giving, Spirit, open my heart. God, replace my stony heart with a heart that s kind and tender. All my coldness and fear to your grace I now surrender. (Refrain) Write your love upon my heart as my law, my goal, my story. In each thought, word and deed, may my living bring you glory. (Refrain) May I weep with those who weep, share the joy of sister, brother. In the welcome of Christ, may we welcome on another. (Refrain) The Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the p ower and the glory forever and ever. Amen. * VU 679 Let There Be Light We Learn and Listen Prayer of Confession (together) Prayer of Illumination Patty Wilcox Merciful God, Mother and Father of us all: you ask us to love others as ourselves, yet often we ignore those we care for most and fail to respond to the cries of our neighbour. You challenge us to attend to the needs of your global family, yet often we forget our sisters and brothers closest to home. Forgive our foolish ways. Wrap us in your tender care. Warmed by your love, may we reach out with compassion to others, and love as you would have us love. We ask this in the name of your great gift of love, Jesus the Christ, your beloved child. (Source: Worship for All Seasons II, Pam Bowman p. 200) Words of Assurance - 3 - Creator God, open our hearts and minds that as these passages are read we may hear and understand what the wisdom is for us in this time and place. Amen. Scripture Readings Matthew 15:21-28 Jeremiah 1:4-10 Musical Offering I Will Sing with the Spirit - 4 -
