F. Handel - Trinity Brass (8:15) WORDS OF WELCOME PROCESSIONAL HYMN... When Morning Gilds the Skies...LSB 807 When morning gilds the skies, My heart, awaking, cries, When evening shadows fall, This rings my curfew call: When mirth for music longs, This is my song of songs: God s holy house of prayer Hath none that can compare With Jesus Christ be praised! No lovelier antiphon In all high heav n is known Than Jesus Christ be praised! There to the eternal Word The eternal psalm is heard: Ye nations of mankind, In this your concord find: Let all the earth around Ring joyous with the sound: Sing, suns and stars of space, Sing, ye that see His face, Sing Jesus Christ be praised! God s whole creation o er, Both now and evermore Shall Jesus Christ be praised! Public Domain INVOCATION P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. CONFESSION P If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. C But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
P Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. ABSOLUTION P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. SALUTATION P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. COLLECT OF THE DAY P O God, the strength of all who put their trust in You, mercifully grant that by Your power we may be defended aginst all adversity; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. OLD TESTAMENT READING............................................ Exodus 24:8-18 R The Old Testament Reading is from the 24 th Chapter of Exodus. R 8 And Moses took the blood and threw it on the people and said, Behold the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words. 9 Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up, 10 and they saw the God of Israel. There was under His feet as it were a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness. 11 And He did not lay His hand on the chief men of the people of Israel; they beheld God, and ate and drank. 12 The Lord said to Moses, Come up to Me on the mountain and wait there, that I may give you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction. 13 So Moses rose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God. 14 And he said to the elders, Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever has a dispute, let him go to them. 15 Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. 16 The glory of the Lord dwelt on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day He called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. 17 Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. 18 Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights. R This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.
EPISTLE READING.....................................................2 Peter 1:16-21 R The Epistle Reading is from the 1 st Chapter of 2 nd Peter. R 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to Him by the Majestic Glory, This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased, 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with Him on the holy mountain. 19 And we have something more sure, the prophetic word, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone s own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. R This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. ALLELUIA AND VERSE....................................................... LSB 156 C Alleluia. Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia, alleluia. HOLY GOSPEL........................................................Matthew 17:1-9 P The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the 17 th Chapter. C Glory to You, O Lord. P 1 And after six days Jesus took with Him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 And He was transfigured before them, and His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became white as light. 3 And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with Him. 4 And Peter said to Jesus, Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for You and one for Moses and one for Elijah. 5 He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him. 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, Rise, and have no fear. 8 And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. 9 And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead. P This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ. MESSAGE......................... Five Practices.... Pastor Michael Dorn Matthew 17:5 MESSAGE RESPONSE...................... Jesus at the Close of Day Jesus at the close of day, With the shadows creeping, Up the mountain climbed to pray With disciples sleeping. While He knelt in prayer alone, Came a dazzling brightness, Brilliant light upon Him shone, Robe was bathed in whiteness.
Moses and Elijah came, Talked about His Passion, How He d take the cross of shame That would bring salvation. Brilliance shining through the night, Radiating so clear; His disciples saw the light, Lord, tis good to be here. Then the Father s voice was heard Through the cloud around Him; There came forth the glorious word My belov d Son, hear Him! When He d risen from the dead, They would tell the story; As eyewitnesses they said, We have seen His glory. Text: Ron Thomsen Copyright 2013. Used by permission. CONFESSION OF FAITH................................................ Apostles Creed C I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life T everlasting. Amen.
