A Message from our Pastor Dear People of St. Patrick Parish, Stay awake and be ready! For you do not know on what day your Lord will come. Last Sunday in Sutherland Springs, Texas, 26 people were killed and another 24 people were injured by a human-being who walked into a Baptist church and began shooting innocent people. Those people went to church to pray to their God as directed by God in the third Commandment. They were seeking God in their lives and asking God for things they needed in their lives. As those Christians prayed in that church, they did not expect to die on that Sunday morning. This is only one of many examples of death coming when least expected. It is a reminder to all of us to live each day united with the Lord, doing our best to be good, holy and aware that God can face us and say, I do know you and you have shown yourself ready and worthy to enter the kingdom of heaven. If only all people would live as God wanted us to live then, there would be no senseless murders in the world. As a nation that is founded upon the freedom of religion and the rights of all people to live in peace, why do we think that any normal citizen needs a $500 - $900 gun, capable of mass destruction? Let us pray that all people will turn to God and try to live the life God wants for all people. Let us not be mislead by those who are filled with hate and violence. God Bless, Fr. Larry Young Pastor

In the message for the new special day, which will be celebrated November 19 this year, the pope makes a short but poetic and powerful scriptural argument for why Christians must reach out and care for those experiencing poverty. Catholic Campaign for Human Development Collection Please respond to Pope Francis call for the 1st World Day of the Poor on Sunday, November 19. Next week, our Second Collection will be for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Over 46 million people in the United States live in poverty. WISDOM We consider wisdom today. The first reading om the book of Wisdom presents this precious giſt as a feminine spirit, a ver desirable vir e sought by many and g aciously present to all who seek her. In today's Gospel, Jesus tells a parable to illust ate wisdom in a practical, measurable way. The wise will conser e their resources, use them pr dently, and mark the passing of time. The foolish, on the other hand, not planning ahead, will be in the dark. Both of these readings tell us how accessible wisdom is to all who simply and honestly seek it. Paul's words to the Thessalonians are not about wisdom, but describe one result of t e wisdom: To the wise person of faith even death holds no ter or. Our faith in Jesus' resur ection tells us we will all one day rise to new life in Christ. Copy ight J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
