Marker, Editor - admarker@comcast.net December 2014 Rev. J Bret Metcalfe District Superintendent It is crazy, but it seems that as soon as the leaves start to change, setups in the stores start changing. Before one holiday can conclude, or maybe even start, it is being run over by the next holiday. It seems we are in a rush to get through the final weeks of the year. I wonder how many of us tend to rush through the days just to get through the year, situation, or event? There is something to waiting. There is something to relishing in the day or season that the Lord brings. The Psalmist says it best, so take the time and read through Psalm 34. I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2 My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. 3 Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! 4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. 5 Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. 6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. 7 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. 8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! 9 Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack! 10 The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. 11 Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. 12 What man is there who desires life and loves many days, that he may see good? 13 Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. 14 Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. 15 The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry. 16 The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth. 17 When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. 18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. 19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. 20 He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken. 21 Affliction will slay the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be condemned. 22 The Lord redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned. May your days be filled with praises to the Lord as we go through these days of gathering around tables with family and friends celebrating and giving thanks to the Lord. May your Advent season be filled with renewed anticipation of the coming Messiah. Page 4 - NYI and Promoter Mailing List Colleen Baker, NYI President Calling our generation to a dynamic life in Christ is the mission of your District NYI. The events and retreats we spend countless hours planning, organizing, praying for, and carrying out all revolves around our mission. Teenagers are the future of our church. They are next in line to receive the baton from us to carry out the future work of the church. Our young people will be the next NYI Presidents, Missionaries, Youth Leaders, Sunday School teachers, NMI Presidents, board members and Pastors. But why wait until they are older? Why not find an area of leadership for them now? Often it is when we hold positions of leadership when our faith begins to grow. Please find a place for our young people to serve. Please be willing to hand some responsibility to them. I think you will be surprised and encouraged at their participation and eagerness to step up and take the lead. After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly (Acts 4:31). Aftershock! That is the name of our new District NYI Ministry team, directed by Sarah Smail and Andy Russell. This group of Jesus loving young people is seeking God s will and direction for their ministry. Ideally, we would like to invade a community, spend a day working within that community and ministering as needs arise, and encouraging the local church by helping to revive and lift up the body of Christ. If you Pittsburgh Promoter Mailing List? If you want onto the Pittsburgh District Promoter E-Mail list, please contact : David Marker at admarker@comcast.net. The Promoter is published in the months of February, April, June, August, October and December of each year. Copies of all Promoter issues are also available on-line at the Pittsburgh District website at: www.pghnazarene.org. Aftershock! have an opportunity for Aftershock! in your community, please contact your District NYI leaders. Winter Retreat will be here before we know it! It is scheduled for February 27-March 1, 2015. As last year, there will be two locations: North will be Camp Ebenezer (same as last year) in Girard, PA and the South will be at CBM (Children s Bible Ministries) in Jefferson, PA. Applications and additional information will be sent out in December. Colleen Baker, District NYI President

I happened to look on my book shelf and there was a paper that I have been picking up from time to time and reading it. It is entitled Do Whatever It Takes. I got it from the encounter weekend that our district had about a year ago. I could not find the author of this prayer but I wanted to share it with you. I wonder if we ask God to Do whatever it takes, what would happen in our lives? Do we beg the Lord to do whatever it takes in our spiritual lives to be His disciples and to live sacrificially for Him? Do others see this kind of spiritual formation taking place in us? I believe with all my heart that if we are making this our prayer, making it personal; we will see a transformation in our own lives, in our homes, our marriages, in our Sunday school and small groups, in our work place and in those we disciple. Make this your prayer. DO WHATEVER IT TAKES PRAYER LORD, Do whatever it takes to break me, keep me broken before You, keep me humble and on my knees in desperate prayer, praying without ceasing, in total dependency upon You. Break me so you can bless me and make me a blessing. (Genesis 32:24-32) Do whatever it takes to prune me and my ministry for the sake of more fruit for Your glory. (John 15:2,8) Do whatever it takes to make me a better listener, to hear Your voice better, to obey You more completely and follow You today. (John 10:27) Do whatever it takes to make me like Jesus Who was perfected and learned obedience through His sufferings. (Heb. 2:10; 5:8) Do whatever it takes to make me as holy and as pure as You can make somebody this side of heaven. (Heb. 12:14; Matt. 5:8) Do whatever it takes to make me a true Disciple of You, Jesus, and to make me an effective DiscipleMaker of DiscipleMakers. (Matthew 28:19-20) Do whatever it takes to help me set You continually before me today and to keep my mind stayed on You. (Psalm 16:8; Isaiah 26:3) Do whatever it takes to make me as fruitful as You appointed me to be. (John 15:1-16) Do whatever it takes to make me a wise and effective soul-winner. (Proverbs 11:30) Do whatever it takes to make me a righteous man who prays powerful, fervent, effectual prayers that availeth much. Jesus, make me an intercessor like You are! (James 5:16) (continued on Page 6)

Page 6 - Children s Ministry Council, SDMI (continued), Children s Quizzing, California Church Drama (continued from Page 5) Children s Ministries Council The Children s Ministries Council work together to develop strategies that reach children for the Kingdom, strengthen the faith of young believers and bridge the gap between the generations. Leaders are vital in order to continue to serve the children on our district. We desire to put forth the effort in creating a quality children s ministry, and so we ask that you seek God with all your heart to determine your part in building the Kingdom. Just as God has tapped upon your heart s door for your salvation, do you hear or sense the Holy Spirit tapping on your heart s door to serve as a leader in Children s Ministries? We work as a team and are currently looking for leaders to join in God s work. If you have sought God s will and want to pursue your call to children, contact Pastor Christine Siordia at 724-710-6433. Do whatever it takes to make me abide in You, abide in Your love, and abide in Your Word. (John 15:1-16) Do whatever it takes to train me to live like You lived, Precious Jesus, where You never spoke one word on Your own initiative and You never did anything on Your own initiative but You only spoke what the Father told You to speak and You only did what the Father told You to do and what You saw the Father doing. (John 5:19-30; 8:26-29, 40, 42; 12:49-50) Do whatever it takes, Dear Jesus, to break me and help me to enter into the fellowship of Your sufferings. Pour a little of Your pain into my heart so that I can weep as You weep. Help me to feel what You feel and weep with You, sharing Your tears and feeling the hurt that is in Your heart for broken and lost people. Cry Your tears through my eyes. Break me so that I can weep with hurting people who are weeping and enter into the fellowship of their suffering. (Philippians 3:10; Romans 12:15) Do whatever it takes, Lord, to make me willing to be Your living sacrifice, Your burnt offering and Your drink offering to be poured out before You. By Your grace, make me willing until with joy I can say, I am ready to be offered up for You, Lord Jesus! Do whatever it takes, Lord Jesus, for if You do not do it, I surely cannot do any of these things on my own! (John 15:4-5) LORD, I beg You DO WHATEVER IT TAKES!
