We need candy and snacks for the sacks, but our needs are specific. We are asking for items such as animal crackers, Jolly Ranchers, Starbursts, Skittles, bubble gum, Goldfish crackers, Oreo minis, Hershey Kisses, Tootsie Rolls, plain M&M s, Ring Pops, Swedish Fish, Pringles variety packs and any chocolate. Please do NOT bring Snickers, Reese s Peanut Butter Cups or anything else with nuts or peanut butter. Please leave your items in the church receptionist s office by April 21. Let s help the Woodmore kids have an exciting Easter surprise! The BUMC Easter Egg Hunt will be on April 19 th from 6:30 to 7:30. We need at least 8 volunteers and request for prefilled Easter eggs to be dropped off in the Atrium no later than April 14 th. We want to provide enough eggs for the community and preschool children to come and enjoy themselves and also offer snacks and drinks for parents and church members. Thank you! If you are not involved with a Sunday School class, consider visiting one in the near future. Sunday School classes are not only a great venue to learn more about the Bible, but also they provide a platform in which to discuss church happenings. Many members of Sunday School classes say that their best friendships were formed in class and then blossomed to weekday activities. Several activities in which class members participate are monthly dinners, dinner and a movie, local mission projects, travel, bridge games, etc.

It is Lily Time! If you would like to donate $15 per lily to be used to decorate the altar on Easter and to help the worship committee during the year, please complete the form below and place it in the offering plate along with your donation. This form will be accepted along with your donation through today. A list of memorials, honorariums and appreciation gifts will be inserted in the Easter bulletin. (Please PRINT) In Honor or Appreciation of: In Memory of: Given by: Phone or email: Please take your lily home after Easter services. Lilies will not be kept in the Sanctuary after Easter.

All About the Altar (part 6) Flowers Flowers speak of festivity; and to Christians, flowers speak specifically of the resurrection. Flowers given to the church can be an exquisite offering of praise and thanksgiving. They are also a fitting way to memorialize loved ones in worship on the anniversary of their death or birth. If you would like to place flowers at the chancel in honor or memory of a loved one, notify Jenny in the church office. Contact a florist of your choice, who will deliver the flowers to the church. Flowers should be in keeping with the architecture of the sanctuary and other decorations of the church, large and colorful enough to be seen from the back pews and in harmony with the color scheme of the church and of the day or season. The overall effect of the sanctuary s decorations, including flowers, should always lead the eye to the altar and the cross. At Brainerd Church two flower arrangements are usually used and may be placed on the floor stands on each side of the chancel or one arrangement can be placed on the low stool centered in front of the altar; but they should never obscure the cross or rise above the arms of the cross. In keeping with the principle of integrity and since flowers symbolize the resurrection, no artificial flowers or plants are appropriate to the environment of worship. If no fresh flowers are available for a given service, greenery or potted plants may be used. It is not mandatory to have flowers at the chancel, especially during a more sober season such as Lent. Traditionally Brainerd Church, in order to totally beautify the sanctuary, uses some artificial greenery to decorate the windows and Chrismon trees but keeps the flowers within the chancel fresh. This advent season we plan to replace the artificial advent wreath with one made of fresh greenery. It is not in good taste to use symbols or ribbons in the floral arrangements. You may wish to create your own floral arrangements for the sanctuary. Floral art is interpretive design, using color and form. It is a liturgical art and a beautiful way of making worship offerings to God. Notify the altar guild if this might be your intention sometime. After the services, it is nice for the flowers to be taken to the sick. Be aware that much thought has been given to making the sanctuary a place that lifts you up and blesses your worship experience.
