Our Finance Council will meet on Monday, July 18 @ 7pm in the Church Rectory. We will discuss the Church budget for 2016-17. ST. COLUMBA PARISH 25TH ANNIVERSARY NEWS Our Church was, for many years, a Mission of St. Denis Parish. In 1992, John Cardinal O Connor split the Parish of St. Denis and created the new Parish of St. Columba. We will celebrate our 25th Anniversary in 2017. Here are some of our plans: Anniversary Mass - His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan is confirmed to celebrate our Anniversary Mass on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 5:30pm. Church Restoration Committee - Eric Winogradoff is the Chair of this committee. We will spend the summer studying the book: Built of Living Stone: Art, Architecture and Worship which are the guidelines of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. Members of this committee are asked to stop by the church office to pick up your copy and start reading. Meetings will resume in September and we will need to have our recommendations to the parish completed this Fall. Dinner Dance Committee & Journal - We are planning a 25th Anniversary Dinner Dance to be held at Christos on Friday, October 27, 2017. Barbara Falcone is the Chair of this committee. We are also planning for an Anniversary Journal. CARDINAL S STEWARDSHIP APPEAL 2016 Parish Goal - $110,500.00 Pledged as of July 1 - $118,110.00 Number of Gifts - 503 Average Gift - $234.81 God bless you for your generosity! We have reached our Appeal Goal as determined by Cardinal Dolan. Thank You!!!! Last year our Parish received a rebate of $4,642.41 which was a 60% share of cash received over goal. Any amount over goal this year, 60% will come back to St. Columba Parish! Photo Journal - Kelly Smith will head up this effort to create a yearbook with pictures of parish families. We will choose a company to work with us by October and schedule sittings after the School of Religion ends in May until the end of June 2017. Capital Campaign - Each parish in the Archdiocese of New York will participate in the Renew and Restore Campaign over the next three years. Our Campaign will begin in January 2017. It will coincide with our 25th Anniversary. The Restoration Committee is working to develop projects for your consideration. Right now, plans include new windows for the school, new signage, new kneelers in the church and new flooring in the church. Further plans will be developed in the Fall.

PARISH NEWS: CATHOLIC FUNERAL RITES By means of the Catholic Funeral Rites, it has long been the practice of the Church, not simply to commend the dead to God but also to raise high our hopes and to give witness to our faith in the future resurrection of the baptized with Christ. We encourage all Catholic families to continue, as much as possible, to follow the traditional practice of the Catholic Funeral rites - a Wake Service, a Funeral Mass and Burial in a cemetery. These Rites can and should be offered for all Catholics, those who practice their faith and those who did not. We are aware that this may not be practical for all. Please contact a parish priest if you have any questions. One of the blessings of offering the Catholic Funeral Rites is that it gives people various opportunities to visit, to share condolences and to pray for the deceased and their family. On occasion, a person has requested cremation after death. If at all possible, please try to delay cremation until after the Funeral Mass. If this is not possible, we are still able to offer a Funeral Mass for the deceased. Afterward, please ensure that the cremated remains are properly buried in a cemetery or placed in a columbarium. While we try to accommodate all reasonable requests for days and times, we ask you not to make any plans until you have met with a Funeral Director, who in turn, will contact us regarding availability. HOSPITAL VISITS & ANOINTING OF THE SICK If you are having a planned procedure or surgery and would like to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, simply let a priest know before or after any Weekday or Weekend Mass. He will be delighted to pray with you. If you find yourself in a local hospital, simply contact the Hospital Pastoral Care Dept. and they will arrange for the Priest Chaplain on call to Anoint you or your loved ones. If you would like a priest from St. Columba to visit you in the hospital, please call the church office. Due to privacy laws, this information is not available to us, so we must rely upon you to call us. If the church office is closed and it is an emergency, please call the church office number, listen to the prompts and you will be connected directly to a priest on duty. If he does not pick up right away, clearly record your name and phone number, and you will be called back as soon as possible.
