1Ti 6:14 8-5-2018 1. Last week I taught in part 1Ti 6:14 and when the clock tolled noon we were reviewing several points concerning the Rapture and Second Advent of the Lord Jesus. 2. Before we complete that study I want to give you opportunity to use 1Jo 1:9 as may or may not be necessary. 3. Let me first give you an expanded translation of 1Ti 6:12-14. Expanded Translation 1Ti 6:12 Now Timothy, it is important for you to fight the good fight of faith and take possession of your eternal life for it was to this life that God called you. You have often provided a dedicated life of faith while firmly professing that faith before many witnesses. 1Ti 6:13 Timothy, I command you in the sight of God and before Jesus Christ the creator of all things, Who made a profound confession before Pontius Pilate; 1Ti 6:14 Timothy you must keep on demonstrating that which Christ professed: a profession, intact, unsullied, irreproachable and unblameable until the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ at the Rapture: 4. Now we need to resume the study of the Rapture and Second Advent. There are four major theories of the Rapture as it relates to the Second Advent of Christ. 5. The four are: Pre, Post, Mid and Partial; those subscribing to the Partial tend to be of the Mid-Tribulation persuasion. We are in this church Pretribulation and Premillennial in our eschatological views, meaning the Tribulation precedes the Second Advent of Christ ushering in the millennial reign of our Lord and Savior. 1

6. There is also the "Amillennialist" who allegorizes eschatological Scriptures and therefore, do not view the Rapture or the Second Advent as two separate events. 7. Paul reminds Timothy of the return of Christ but in God s perfect timing. 8. Now let s return to the review of several points from the Doctrine of the Rapture and Second Advent. 9. The immanency of the Rapture supports the Pre-Trib and Pre-Mil position. 1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 1Th 4:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words. 10. There are three Greek words used interchangeably for the several eschatological events called "the Rapture" and "the Second Advent." The three words are: Parousia-to be near or to come along-side Apokalupsis-to reveal, uncover, or unveil Epiphaneia-to bring forth to light, to show forth 11. I want to review again what Paul tells the believers in Thessalonica; they are not to be concerned that they are living in the Tribulation. This review will be done in conjunction with a word study of Parousia. Parousia At the Rapture I will be so proud of you. 1Th 2:19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his "coming?" I hope to see your chest decorated with medals when you return with Jesus at the Second Advent. 1Th 3:13 To the end he may stablish your hearts unblamable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the "coming" of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints. Our deceased loved ones will not miss the Rapture. 2

1Th 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the "coming" of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. The Lord will preserve you blameless until the Rapture. 1Th 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the "coming" of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1Th 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. I can't believe you believed this silly lie about the Rapture having already occurred. 2Th 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the "coming" of our Lord Jesus Christ, and "by our gathering together unto him," 2Th 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ (Kurios is there) is at hand. Paul does not want them anxious about the "day of the Lord." The "day of the Lord" is the general term for the Tribulation, Millennium and the destruction of planet earth. The "day of Christ," is the Rapture of the Church. The day of Christ is therefore a bad translation. It is better "day of the Lord" is not at hand. The day of Christ is the Rapture and it is at hand. The Greek has day of Lord Kurios, and not the day of Christ. 2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; The falling away first in verse three refers to either the apostasy of the Tribulation or the Rapture of the Church. The Greek word Apostasia can mean either. Since there is always apostasy in all ages, most grace expositors believe the falling away refers to the Rapture. 2Th 2:5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 2Th 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 2Th 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only HE who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 2Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked One be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his "coming:" 3

The One Who withholdeth is God the Holy Spirit. Clearly since He indwells all believers His removal at the Rapture will make possible the work of the Satan indwelt Anti-Christ. The Wicked One therefore, in 2Th 2:8, is the Anti-Christ and Parousia [translated coming] is used for the Second Advent when the Anti-Christ will be placed in the Lake of Fire. 12. The best way to summarize what we have just reviewed from Paul s second letter to the Church at Thessalonica is to read the entire chapter. 2Th 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2Th 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ (Greek has day of Christ) is at hand. 2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 2Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 2Th 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 2Th 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 4

2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 2Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2Th 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 2Th 2:14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2Th 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. 2Th 2:16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, 2Th 2:17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
