July 20, 2014 2 Mission Statement: St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a Christ-centered family of believers, celebrating Christ alive in our lives through the inspiration of the Gospel, church teachings and traditions and the Sacraments. We are sensitive to the spiritual and temporal needs of God s people, acknowledging their uniqueness and dignity and are dedicated to reaching out and serving them through prayer, liturgical celebrations and social ministries. Guided by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Holy Eucharist, we welcome all people with, respect and compassion. We are vigilant in protecting the rights of the most vulnerable. In the tradition of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, we put the good news of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ into action. July 20, 2014 3 - So, where are you going on vacation? - I m hanging out in my own backyard! Just as we say beauty is in the eye of the beholder so too a vacation is what you make of it! We might be going all the way to California or even to Europe, but with the wrong mind set we won t have any fun and certainly will not be refreshed. Even if our biggest summer trip is to a local town beach and even if we didn t get into the water, it can be with the right disposition, a true moment of tranquility and renewal! A famous author put it this way, Take time and sharpen the saw. If we just keep working the saw day in and day out, it will eventually grow dull and inefficient - we will not be accomplishing our tasks in the right way. Taking time out to sharpen the saw that is to restore ourselves to a good energy level is the wise thing to do. The summer affords numerous opportunities. Keep it simple. Even if you don t get out of your own backyard, take the time to enjoy it and stop criticizing yourself because you never built the patio the neighbor down the block put up for himself. With the right approach one can take a number of mini-vacations and so experience renewal. If you can t get away physically you can pause, relax, enjoy and be at peace interiorly. Of course, getting to Church helps too! As Jesus said to his Apostles, Come away and rest awhile. Mass Intentions are available for weekday and weekend Masses! The offering is $20. Stop by the Rectory to select a Mass for a loved one living or deceased and experience the satisfying thought that you have united your personal prayer to the public and official prayers of the Church.

July 20, 2014 4 Time, Talent & Treasure Fostering Stewardship as a way of life (Regular Sunday Offertory) Last Sunday s weekly offering: $TBA Last Year s Sunday offering: $8,948.50 Thanks for Giving First Fruits & Taking a Step!!! Bulletin Reflection Good stewards in a parish are like the yeast in today s gospel. Their selfless gifts of time and talent help the parish grow and thrive, and their example inspires others to become good stewards too. Newly Baptized: Bianca N. St. Juste Daniel Joseph Roth Madison Grace Teitscheid Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who recognize that although each of us has our own unique gifts to share, our mission is the same - to serve others and help build God s kingdom. July 20 Sixteen Sunday in Ordinary Time: Hearing this Gospel, we can trust that God knows our love and good deeds, and that he will mercifully gather us into his kingdom. This week, please say a special prayer each day for the poor and forgotten in our parish. SUNDAY READINGS for next week, July 27th Wisdom 12:13, 16-19 1 Kings 3:5, 7-12 A king wishes for a las ng kingdom. He finds it in true service to God. Ma hew 13:44-52 Jesus teaches that the kingdom of heaven is like a valuable treasure. The finder does whatever is necessary to obtain it.
