Ministry Staff Joseph Tee Writes... People Pleasing Taken from Paul Tripp Ministries (http://www.paultripp.com/wednesdaysword/posts/the-trap-of-pleasing-people) Are you a people pleaser? From my experience, my answer is a resounding Yes! But is this always a good thing? Christian author, Paul Tripp, shares this experience as a young pastor. At that time, he was doing everything he could to develop the gift of teaching that God had given him. He knew that his preaching wasn't perfect, but didn t expect it to be the worst either. Yet, there was a critical man in his congregation who never seemed to be satisfied with his sermons, regardless of how he approached them. One evening, he actually came up to Tripp and said, "Paul, your preaching is killing us." Then, it got worse. He handed Tripp a set of tapes and said, "I suggest listening to these. Just mimic the preacher on the tapes and that will be better than what we've been getting." Tripp was crushed. In the weeks that followed, Tripp s preaching got worse. He was fearful and nervous. He would look out on the congregation, and this man was the only one Tripp could see. It seemed impossible to ignore his disapproving reactions and avoid his critical gaze. Tripp didn't realize it at the time, but he had fallen into the snare of pleasing people. The Bible also refers to this as fear of man. Proverbs 29:25 (ESV) says, "The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe." Tripp had now become trapped by his fear of this one man's opinion. Finally, the oldest lady in his church had had enough. She came up to Tripp after a sermon and said, "Paul, I'm convinced that someone has gotten to you, and that you're preaching to please that person and not the Lord." Then she said, "Tomorrow, get up, forget that person, and study God's Word. Preach what God has given you with confidence and joy or we're all in trouble." And with that, she turned and walked out of the church. This little old lady revealed something significant about Tripp s heart: under pressure of criticism, he fell into the snare of pleasing people instead of trusting in the Lord. What about you? When you're mistreated by another person, do you get angry and try to prove them wrong? Do you get intimidated and blindly follow their orders? Do you get wounded and attempt to avoid all future encounters with them? There's only one place where your heart can be healed, satisfied, and protected. It won't healed by exacting vengeance. It won't be satisfied in human approval. It won't be protected by hiding. No, your heart will only be healed, satisfied, and protected when you trust in the Lord and follow His Word. 242
Cambodia Missions Trip - Reflections Not only did I have the privilege to interact with and teach missionary children, I also made some new friends from Germany, Korea, the UK, US and more. We were truly blessed to have such great fellow workers I thank God for using this trip to open my eyes to other cultures as well as to missions as a whole. I learnt a lot and had many new experiences. I strongly encourage YOU to go on such a trip if the opportunity arises - you'll definitely not regret it! ~ Lindsay Yap I thank God for the opportunity to go to Cambodia to be a SAW (Serve Asia Worker) with OMF! I thank Him for the privilege to serve Him - teaching and looking after the children of the many missionaries in Cambodia! Just watching how He brought so many of us from all over the world (different ages and from different walks of life) come together to work as one is truly amazing and such an honour! We were an awesome team only because our God is awesome! ~ Joo Neo I've never felt so privileged to serve in this capacity, and I thank God so much for this opportunity. I'm grateful for everyone I've met: from the kids we have been praying for by name since March and now finally getting to meet them face to face, and for the missionaries I've met 3 years ago at Phnom Penh OMF Team Center and now seeing them again and catching up on how God has worked in their ministries. I thank God too for the fellow SAWs from all over the world that have worked alongside us in serving the TCKs they were brilliant and were such a blessing! To see how each and every one of them make up the pieces of the puzzle that is His work here in Cambodia is just amazing! ~ Priscilla Tee 245

Weekly Prayer Guide ZES Sunday School & Youth Fellowship Ministries: Thank God for the children and the youth who are attending Sunday School. Pray that they will be regular in their attendance. Pray for the children and the youth to grow in stature and wisdom as they continue to study God s Word. Thank God for the blessing of faithful and committed teachers. Pray that they will be granted wisdom as they teach and nurture their students. Pray that the ZES YF Community will remain rooted in Christ together, especially when so many of them are presently overseas. Pray that the youth will continue to gather and meet every Friday to spend time with God. Pray that more youth can make it to Youth Fellowship regularly. Foreign Missions: Myanmar Praise God for the continued growth of the Church despite great suffering and oppression. There is an increasing response from the Buddhist majority, particularly among the monks. Thank God the momentum in evangelism is building an indigenous missions movement. Pray for it to continue to flourish. The country is deeply fractured on political, ecclesiological and ethnic levels. Pray for seemingly impossible ethnic harmony, efficient government and good collaboration among churches. Remember our Missions Partners: Faith Biblical Academy & Living Water Theological Seminary The two Bible schools will reopen soon for a new academic year. Pray for the new intake of students as well as for the returning students. May He continue to use these schools to prepare the students for the work of the Ministry. Uphold the faculty members and the two principals, Rev Tual Khan Pau and Rev Joseph Dakhum. Pray for spiritual wisdom and guidance as they prepare their lectures and for the reopening of a new academic year. Immanuel Union (IU) Church 244 Thank God for the ministry to migrant workers and their families residing around the outskirts of Yangon city. Thank Him many have come to a saving knowledge of Jesus through the ministry of IU Church. Pray for the ministry of tuition and childcare centres which care for the children of the migrant workers. The centres not only provide for their tuition and nutritional needs but also introduce the children to Jesus to meet their spiritual needs. Thank God for the success of the sewing project started by the church. By God's grace, it managed to supply more than 400 sets of school uniform to needy children. Pray for wisdom to identify and start similar sustainable projects.
