This weekend we celebrate the Feast of our beloved St. Therese, the little flower. In her autobiography, Story of a Soul, St. Therese refers to the world as Jesus garden and that not all the flowers are the same, but all are important. She humbly refers to herself as the little flower gathered by Jesus. For St. Therese it was the little, simple things that we do that make a big difference. The best way to celebrate her feast is to follow her example. Do something simple for someone this week that is selfless and kind. As a parish what better way to celebrate her feast than with parish gatherings. Following the 10:30 Mass we will gather around the newly rededicated statue of St. Therese for a novena and a social gathering. In the afternoon our celebration continues at The Harvest with the drawing of our Cherub Chances. Some blessed person will be $10,000 dollars richer this weekend. Our month of October continues with a special Mass on October 13 in honor of Our Lady of Fatima. It is the 100 th Anniversary of the final apparition the day the sun danced. On October 14 th we have our Rosary Rally here on the church grounds. Weather permitting we will begin in church with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and a procession across the street where the exposition will continue as we recite the rosary. The service will conclude with Benediction and a procession returning the Blessed Sacrament to the church. (And don t forget the Chowder Contest Columbus Day Weekend AND our Halloween Parade I m so glad that things quiet down after Labor Day! Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Tom & The Monsignor

If you would like to remember a loved one in our Eucharistic celebrations please contact our office. 668-2200 Another thoughtful way to remember a loved one is by donating a Memorial in the form of a liturgical item to be used in worship at St. Therese. The ongoing needs of our parish enable us to offer a variety of such items for memorialization. For more information about this opportunity, please contact Don Bostrom at 668 4202. Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time GOD S WAYS In the stream of readings during this portion of Ordinary Time one week s texts can often appear to pick up exactly where the previous week s concluded. The sentiments expressed in today s first reading seem to be a direct reaction to the Gospel passage we heard last week. In that Gospel, the landowner pays the same wages to his workers whether they worked for a full day or for only a few minutes. Today Ezekiel gives us the lament, The L s way is not fair! (Ezekiel 18:25). These Sundays in Ordinary Time offer us a glimpse into the ways of the Lord. We see how God s way has the tendency to turn the accepted conventions of the day upside down. Those who always expected that their way to heaven was guaranteed are disappointed. Those who thought they never had a chance are given that chance. Today offers us another opportunity to discover the abundance of God s mercy and love. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. TODAY S READINGS First Reading When the wicked turn away from their wickedness they have committed and do what is right, they shall surely live (Ezekiel 18:25-28). Psalm Remember your mercies, O Lord (Psalm 25). Second Reading Consider others as better than yourselves; look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others (Philippians 2:1-11 [1-5]). Gospel Tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you (Matthew 21:28-32). What's new from the Desk of the Religious Education office OUR PRAYER LIFE CONTINUES THROUGHOUT THE WEEK! Come and pray with us Happy Feast day! Today as we celebrate the Feast of our parish patroness, St. Therese of Lisieux, check out the following quotes from her autobiography, Story of a Soul, from which we can learn from or be reminded of, her "little way" of trusting in God and showing her deep love for Him... "I understood that every flower created by Him is beautiful, that the brilliance of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not lessen the perfume of the violet or the sweet simplicity of the daisy. I understood that if all the lowly flowers wished to be roses, nature would no longer be enameled with lovely hues. And so it is, in the world of souls, Our Lord's living garden." "Just as the sun shines on all the trees and flowers as if each were the only one on earth, so does God care for all souls in a special manner." "Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love." MONDAY: 5:30-7:30 (Church) Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (Beginning with the Chaplet of Divine Mercy & Ending with the Miraculous Medal Devotion) TUESDAY: Exposition will be directly following 8:30 Mass with Holy Hour and Benediction at 10AM. Catholics for Freedom of Religion Supreme Court to Hear Baker's Religious Freedom Case: The Supreme Court will rule next year on whether government may coerce Christians, Jews, and Muslims to use their creative gifts to celebrate same -sex marriage. It will review the case of baker, Jack Phillips, of Masterpiece Bakeshop, CO, who cites his Christian faith in declining to create a custom cake for a same-sex wedding. "I will serve anyone who comes in," Phillips said. However, designing a same-sex wedding cake would cross a line for him. "I shouldn't be forced to create a cake that goes against my faith." Alliance Defending Freedom are asking the justices to rule on whether Colorado's public accommodations law, forcing Phillips to use his artistic skills in a way that violates his conscience and sincere Christian beliefs about marriage, violates the free speech or free exercise of religion clauses of the Constitution's First Amendment. "Tolerance should be a two-way street," said an ADF attorney. "The First Amendment protects Jack's right to create artistic expression that is consistent with his core convictions." In a totally opposite ruling than for the Phillip's case, in 2015 the Colorado Civil Rights Division ruled that another CO baker did not discriminate against a Christian by refusing to make two cakes in the shape of a bible with scripture passages and imagery that the baker interpreted to be anti-gay. (latimes.com, 6/26/17, 9/12/17 ; dailysignal.com, 6/26/17; thedenverchannal.com, 4/3/15; nationalreview.com, 8/14/15) "The spirit of our age is profoundly secular. And secularism accepts religion - if it accepts it at all - only on its own terms. Under this view, religion is subordinated to the political interests of the secular state and it is precisely this subordination of religion to the state that the First Amendment seeks to prevent."
