This year s theme Go and Do the Same, based upon Jesus command to the man who showed mercy in the parable of the Good Samaritan, encourages each of us to prayerfully consider how we will respond in offering a portion of our time, talents and financial resources back to God through the ministry of First Christian Church in 2017. In the near future, you will receive a letter from our Stewardship Committee with an Estimate of Giving Card and a Time and Talent Form for you to share your intentions for the coming year. The campaign will conclude on Consecration Sunday, November 13th, when, during our worship service, we will ask for God s blessing on these commitments in support of our ministry together. I hope you are planning on being present on this most important day in the life of our church and also planning on staying for our Thanksgiving Lunch in the Family Life Center immediately following worship. So, I ask, how can we make a difference? Are we going to use our God-given talents, abilities and resources to benefit ourselves or others? I believe God wired each of us to make a difference. He wired us to make a contribution in this world. We were not put on this earth just to take up space, use resources, retire and die. God has uniquely shaped each of us so we are able to make a unique contribution. A good example in the Bible of someone who was able to respond to the needs of others is the Good Samaritan. Remember the story? There was a Jewish man who got mugged on his way from Jerusalem to Jericho. He was beaten, robbed and left for dead at the side of the road. The first one who came walking by was a religious leader, and he was blind to the needs of others. He was in a hurry and said, I don t have time to help, and walked on. Another religious leader walked by and said, I ve got my own agenda. I ve got my own goals and ambitions. I m too busy. I don t want to be associated with this person anyway. And he walked past the injured man. Then a third man came along, and he had every reason to pass. He was a Samaritan, and the Samaritans and Jews hated each other. But he stopped anyway. He put this total stranger on his donkey, took him to the nearest inn, and told the manager, You feed him, you clothe him, you restore him to health and I ll pay for it. And using this man s response of showing mercy, Jesus commanded the hearers of this parable, and just as importantly us, to Go and Do the Same. God created each of us to make a contribution. He calls us to use the unique abilities and resources He has entrusted to us to witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ and to be a blessing to others. That s what our ministry together is all about! Together, we can make a difference! Together, we can accomplish miraculous things! Together, we can move mountains! Blessings and Peace, Pastor Mike
