01. Once in Royal David s city (1 st verse: Y6 and REC, 2 nd verse: Y1-6) (Reception and Yr 6) stand at top of aisle while singing verse 1 1. Once in Royal David's city Stood a lowly cattle-shed, Where a mother laid her baby In a manger for His bed. Mary was that mother mild Jesus Christ, her little child. (Whole school) 2. He came down to earth from heaven Who is God and Lord of all, And his shelter was a stable And his cradle was a stall. With the poor and mean and lowly Lived on earth our Saviour holy. (Yrs1-6 and congregation) 5. And our eyes at last shall see him Through his own redeeming love; For that child so dear and gentle Is our Lord in heaven above; And He leads his children on To the place where he is gone. (Yrs1-6 and congregation) 6. Not in that poor lowly stable, With the oxen standing by, We shall see him; but in heaven, Set at God s right hand on high; When like stars his children crowned All in white shall wait around. 1

02. The Holly and the Ivy (Y 2-6) 1. The holly and the ivy, When they are both full grown, Of all the trees that are in the wood The holly bears the crown. The rising of the sun And the running of the deer The playing of the merry organ, Sweet singing in the choir. 2. The holly bears a blossom As white as the lily flower, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ, To be our sweet Saviour. The rising of the sun 3. The holly bears a berry, As red as any blood, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ, To do poor sinners good. The rising of the sun 4. The holly bears a prickle, As sharp as any thorn, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ, On Christmas day in the morn. The rising of the sun 5. The holly bears a bark, As bitter as any gall, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ For to redeem us all. 2

03. The First Noel (congregation) The first Nowell the angels did say Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay: In fields where they lay keeping their sheep On a cold winter's night that was so deep. Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell Born is the King of Israel. They looked up and saw a star Shining in the east beyond them far; And to the earth it gave great light, And so it continued both day and night. Nowell And by the light of that same star, Three wise men came from country far; To seek for a King was their intent, And to follow the star wherever it went. Nowell This star drew nigh to the north-west; Over Bethlehem it took it's rest, And there it did both stop and stay, Right over the place where Jesus lay. Nowell Then entered in those wise men three, Fell reverently upon their knee, And offered there in his presence, Their gold and myrrh and frankincense. Nowell Then let us all with one accord Sing praises to our heavenly Lord, That hath made hea n and earth of naught, And with his blood mankind has bought. Nowell 3

05. Starlight (Y2 Y4) 1) (..)(..) Star of the winter night, Where have you been? Why do you burn so bright? What does it mean? Star of the winter night, Teach me to share your light And understand the sight That you have seen. (..) Chorus Starlight (..) is spreading across the sky Tonight (..) we re reading a message by Starlight (..) (..) and the message is Love. (..) 2) (..)(..) People of Planet Earth, Hear what I say: God sends you Jesus s birth On Christmas Day. Comfort and joy he brings, Peace, hope and love he sings, Driving the Devil s wings Far, far away (..) Chorus 3) (..)(..) Stars Looking back at me, Burning so bright, Shine through the galaxy Spreading your light. Fill ev ry part of space with Jesus s love and grace: Bless all the human race On Christmas night. (..) Chorus (..) and the message is Love, (..) (..) and the message is Love. 4

06. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing (Congregation) Hark! the herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King!" Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled Joyful, all ye nations, rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With th' angelic host proclaim, "Christ is born in Bethlehem." Hark! the herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King!" Christ, by highest heav'n adored: Christ, the everlasting Lord; Late in time behold him come, Offspring of the Virgin s womb. Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see; Hail, th'incarnate De-ity: Pleased, as man, with man to dwell, Jesus, our Emmanuel! Hark! the herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King!" Hail! the heav'n born Prince of peace! Hail! the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all he brings, Ri en with healing in his wings Mild he lays his glory by, Born that man no more may die: Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth. Hark! the herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King!" 5

07. How far is it to Bethlehem (Y2 to Y6) 1. How far is it to Bethlehem? Not very far Shall we find the stable room lit by a star? Can we see the little Child? Is He within? If we lift the wooden latch, may we go in? 2. May we stroke the creatures there, ox, ass or sheep? May we peep like them and see Jesus asleep? If we touch His tiny hand, will He awake? Will he know we've come so far just for his sake? 3. Great kings have precious gifts, and we have naught Little smiles and little tears are all we brought For all weary children, Mary must weep Here, on His bed of straw, sleep, children, sleep 4. God in His mother's arms, babe in the byre Sleep, as they sleep who find, their heart's desire 6

09. Joy to the World (congregation) Joy to the World, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room, And Heaven and nature sing, And Heaven and nature sing, And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing. Joy to the World, the Saviour reigns! Let men their songs employ; While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy. No more let sins and sorrows grow, Nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make His blessings flow Far as the curse is found, Far as the curse is found, Far as, far as, the curse is found. He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove The glories of His righteousness, And wonders of His love, And won wonders of His love, And wonders, wonders, of His love. 7

10. Little Jesus Sweetly Sleep (Y1-3) Little Jesus, sweetly sleep, do not stir We will lend a coat of fur We will rock you, rock you, rock you We will rock you, rock you, rock you See the fur to keep you warm Snugly round your tiny form. Mary's little baby, sleep, sweetly sleep Sleep in comfort, slumber deep; We will rock you, rock you, rock you We will rock you, rock you, rock you We will serve you all we can Darling, darling little man. 8

13. We Three Kings (Whole school) 1. We three kings of Orient are; Bearing gifts we traverse afar, Field and fountain, moor and mountain, Following yonder star. O-O Star of wonder, Star of night, Star with royal beauty bright, Westward leading, still proceeding, Guide us to thy perfect light. 2. Born a king on Bethlehem plain, Gold I bring, to crown him again, King for ever, ceasing never, Over us all to reign. O-O Star of wonder, Star of night... 3. Frankincense to offer have I, Incense owns a Deity nigh. Pra r and praising, all men raising, Worship him, God most high. O-O Star of wonder, Star of night... 4. Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume Breathes a life of gathering gloom; Sor wing, sighing, bleeding, dying, Sealed in the stone-cold tomb. O-O Star of wonder, Star of night... 5. Glorious now behold him arise, King and God and sacrifice; Alleluia, alleluia Earth to heaven replies. O-O Star of wonder, Star of night... 9

14. O come all ye faithful (Congregation) 1. Adeste, fideles, Laeti triumphantes, Venite, venite in Bethlehem: Natum videte Regem angelorum: Venite adoremus, Venite adoremus, Venite adoremus, Dominum. 2. God of God Light of Light Lo! He abhors not the virgin's womb Very God Begotten not created. Christ the Lord. 3. Sing choirs of angels Sing in exultation Sing all ye citizens of heaven above Glory to God In the highest. Christ the Lord. 10
