FORMED Pick of the Week This week, our FORMED Pick of the Week is an e-book called Did Jesus Really Rise From the Dead? In a question-and-answer format, Carl Olson examines the historical evidence about the Resurrection of Jesus, This book is filled with logical arguments and powerful insights. There are no coincidences. Within hours of our Catholic Charities appeal at Mass last weekend, Pope Francis published Gaudete et Exsultate ( Rejoice and Be Glad ), a reflection on holiness in today s world. In it he reassures us that Our defense of the innocent unborn needs to be clear, firm and passionate, but adds, equally sacred, however, are the lives of the poor, those already born, including the neglected elderly and victims of human trafficking. This is consistent with Matthew 25, of course, in which Jesus teaches us about the eternal importance of charity: Just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me. I know of no safer, surer way to help the poor in our region than Catholic Charities, which helps young and old to overcome poverty, addiction, homelessness, neglect, loneliness, hunger, mental illness, marital problems, disease, and other difficulties. Operating costs are low, with 92 cents of every dollar directly reaching those in need. And sound Catholic morality guides the services offered. You can find the full text of Pope Francis s exhortation at stkdrexel.org, under Our Faith -> Catholics Online. And you can find a donation envelope, a Lakes Region fact sheet, and a description of Catholic Charities services in the church narthex, in the parish office, by calling 875-2548, or emailing office@stkdrexel.org. I serve on the Board of Catholic Charities because it is a truly Catholic charity and because I want to be certain that the needs of the poor in our region are met. Please join me in supporting Catholic Charities, remembering always our Lord s words: Just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me. Thank you. This week, go to formed.org and read Did Jesus Really Rise From the Dead? Go to our parish website www.stkdrexel.org under the drop down menu for Faith Formation Each year for the past five years the Fr. George Ham Memorial Fund has distributed five, one time, $1500.00 scholarships to parish graduating seniors serving in parish ministries. Originally intended to distribute up to three Fr. George Ham Memorial Scholarships each year, through youth fundraising efforts, the St K s Annual 5K and the generous contributions from the parish in Fr Ham s memory it has been five. Two years ago the James Foley Memorial Scholarship became one of the five. This year, with the passing of Fr. Wegman, will be the inaugural year of the Fr. Richard H. Wegman Memorial Scholarship. Fr. Wegman s legacy as our beloved priest, coupled with his love of music, this scholarship will give preference to a high school parishioner intending to pursue higher education in music or who may be discerning a vocation. You are a blessing to these families, and we appreciate it so much! Because of your generosity, we were able to provide 22 families, including 43 children with a complete Easter dinner! Each family received everything needed for their Easter celebration! Including vegetables, potatoes, stuffing, rice, cake mix, frosting, $30.OO in grocery cards and much more! Every child was given a bag of Easter candy, bubbles and their very own stuffed animal to love. We heard that one little boy was so excited to see a little stuffed Lamb in his Easter basket! Thank you Father Cole for your support. Thank you to our enthusiastic and wonderful volunteers and to The Children's Center staff for joining us in this ministry! Thank you for helping us do God's work! - June Connors Medjugorje Message March 25, 2018 "Dear children! I am calling you to be with me in prayer in this time of grace when darkness is fighting against the light. Pray, little children, confess and begin a new life in grace. Decide for God and He will lead you towards holiness; and the cross will be a sign of victory and hope for you. Be proud that you are baptized and grateful in your heart that you are a part of God s plan. Thank you for responding to my call." - submitted by Carol O Rourke Catherine of Siena: A Woman for Our Times Saint Kathryn Church, 4 Dracut Road, Hudson, NH, has the joy of welcoming Sister Nancy Murray, O.P., who will present a onewoman performance based on the life of Saint Catherine of Siena.
