We re on the Web: www.cornwallchurch.org From the Pastor s PC... Reimagining Lent I am very excited about the theme for our mid-week Lenten Services this year. Once again, Cornwall Church is joining with the churches of the Southern Lebanon County Council of Churches (SLCCC) for the Wednesday evening services. We are reimagining Lent in that we are not necessarily considering what we are giving up, but rather what we might be able to do. This series is based on Matthew 25:31-46 where Jesus welcomes all those who feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, give clothing to the naked, and visit those who are imprisoned. Each week, one of these themes will be drawn out and a local ministry which is actively meeting the needs of people who are experiencing these needs will be highlighted. We anticipate having a representative from the ministry participate in the service by telling the story of those who are being blessed. Although the churches of the SLCCC are not far from the city of Lebanon, we can sometimes neglect to see the needs of those who live nearby. We sometimes fail to see the needs of our next-door neighbors. This series will encourage all of us to be reminded that these various ministries help people who are hurting and we can join in blessing those who are hurting. Cornwall Church is actively involved in many of these ministries through our prayer and financial support, and through the many ways we help in hands-on efforts. I give God thanks for the Missions Team which organizes and leads our support of local ministries and all of us who do our part. Page 2 April Worship News Our Sunday morning worship will continue with the theme, With All Your Heart. Camp Sunday will be on April 7th. Staff from the Gretna Glen Camp will be featured in the morning s services as we consider The Power of the Outdoors through Christian Camping. This series will culminate on Easter Sunday, April 21st as we will consider what it means for us to Believe. We will walk with Mary, Peter, and John from grief, fear, disillusionment, and uncertainty to belief. In preparation for Easter Sunday, consider Maundy Thursday. We have had a variety of types of services and meals on Maundy Thursday. We have had dramas and other opportunities for participants to experience the story of these last days of Jesus life on earth. Each time, it has been said that it is a shame that more people did not attend. Don t miss out on experiencing this year s service. Maundy (Commandment) Thursday commemorates the night of the Passover meal Jesus shared with his disciples. This year s service will focus on a hand washing ceremony. Participants will be invited to come forward and have water poured over their hands at three different stations and then proceed to the communion rail. The stations will represent our baptism, our acceptance of God s mercy, and our being called to serve Christ in the world. The service will begin at 7:00 and will be held in the sanctuary. Sue Kolljeski, our missionary who has served in Ghana, will be our guest speaker on Sunday, April 28th. She is retiring from the mission field. Join us as we honor Sue for her service. Pastoral Transition As many of you know, Pastor Jim Heath has announced his retirement. His last Sunday will be June 23 rd. Please plan on joining us at his retirement celebration dinner on Friday, May 17 th in Fellowship Hall. On Sunday, July 7 th, we will be welcoming Rev. Timothy Kriebel, who was appointed by Bishop Peggy Johnson to be our new pastor. We are excited to welcome Pastor Tim and his wife, Anna. The Kriebels have chosen to rent an apartment and plan to move into our area this summer. Please pray for both pastors and their families in this time of transition. There will be more details in next month s edition of the Caller regarding our welcoming the Kriebels. Amy Weddle Chair of Staff Parish Relations Committee

Page 4 Mission of the Month Heart & Hand Submitted by Judy Heath Following church services on Sunday, June 9 th, a team of volunteers will leave for Barbour County, WV for the week. Would you like to join them? Please contact Judy Heath for details. It is a week that could change your life! Ever since 2003, a team of volunteers from our church, along with friends, have traveled to the region near Philippi, WV to collaborate with the Heart and Hand Ministry that is based there. We provide all of the materials necessary as well as hands-on help with housing needs ranging from new construction to much-needed general repairs that could not otherwise be afforded. The associated costs are high for such an undertaking, so please give generously to the Mission for April. Also, please keep those whom we will serve in your prayers as well as those who are volunteering. Thank you. From Finance.. As I write this report for the April Caller, we still have three Sundays in March to go, so I am unable to give you a complete report on the first quarter. However, we can talk about year-to-date trends. I see many things to celebrate. Attendance: We have had some bad weather this winter. After getting off to a slow start to the year, attendance in all three services has rebounded. Out of 10 Sundays as of this writing, four have seen total attendance of over 200. Your attendance and worship participation is a gift to us all. Giving: Average weekly giving to our General Fund is also on the increase. It almost always follows the same course as attendance. Total giving for January and February, other than General Fund, is $8,500 more than for the same period last year. This covers outreach giving and the Capital Campaign. Thanks to all of you. Expenses: Total General Fund expenses for the first two months of this year are only $135 more than last year. This may change as bills for snow removal and other late bills arrive. However, the trend looks very promising. Let s celebrate as we continue to fund the ministries of the church and reach out to those in need. Jim Brimmer Finance Chair.

September 20-22 - Seminar and Concert by Author/Musician Michael Card Hosted by - The Tuesday Night Ladies Bible Study Group The Tuesday Night Bible Study Group is celebrating 10 years of Bible study. We began our study with the book of Genesis and have continued through the Bible, currently studying Galatians. Our group used books written by award-winning Christian author/musician Michael Card when studying the four gospels. Most of our Bible study members have attended one or several Michael Card seminars and three of us traveled to Israel with him. We are very excited to share some of this amazing teaching and meaningful music with our congregation and community. This seminar is open to anyone interested in attending and they historically sell out. We would like our Cornwall UM family to have an opportunity to purchase tickets before they are available to the public starting March 15th. The event begins Friday night with a seminar session. There are two sessions on Saturday morning and two sessions on Saturday afternoon. The theme of the conference is "Hesed" and is best translated as "lovingkindness" (in a world that isn't kind.). Attendees will be on their own for lunch but snacks will be provided between the morning and afternoon sessions on Saturday. The seminar ends with a concert on Sunday evening. The link below allows you to purchase seminar tickets (which includes the concert). If you can't make the seminar but are interested in the concert, those tickets can also be purchased through the concert link below.
