ORDER OF WORSHIP Fourth Sunday of Lent March 6, 2016 *indicates a time to stand if you are able PRELUDE WELCOME GREETING responsive from Psalm 124:8 PASTOR: Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. PEOPLE: Let us worship God with gladness! * PASSING OF CHRIST S PEACE ONE: The peace of Christ be with you! MANY: And also with you! Dr. Christopher Davis Rev. Suzanne Malloy * HYMN OF GATHERING When Morning Gilds the Skies vs. 1 & 3 Hymnal, #487 * CALL TO WORSHIP responsive ONE: Glorious God, maker of color, sound, texture, quietude, and restless beauty, MANY: We praise you! Linda Sizer ONE: Glorious God, maker of granite and seed, of cloud and starlight, of earthquake and heartbeat, MANY: We praise you! ONE: Glorious God, maker of all that is unseen, of all that has been, of all that words could never capture, MANY: We bless and praise you, for your making, your trusting, your loving, and your goodness. Amen. * HYMN OF FAITH There s a Wideness in God s Mercy Hymnal, #298 PRAYER OF SUPPLICATION unison God of mercy, we often think we do a good job of loving you and loving one another. But much of the time our love happens out of convenience; and when loving and serving you is not easy, we fall away. We attend to the poor and the vulnerable according to our schedules, not according to their need. We are overly cautious in our giving. When we doubt you, we turn away rather than bringing our anger, our sadness, and our fears before you. Forgive us, Lord. Help us to know that your love for us is not a weekly transaction, but eternally steadfast. Amen. SILENT AND PERSONAL PRAYERS SUNG PRAYER OF INTROSPECTION Sanctuary Renew!, #185 ASSURANCE OF GOD S GRACE responsive ONE: The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. I declare to you, in the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. MANY: Thanks be to God. Let us respond in song.

SONG OF GRATITUDE The Steadfast Love of the Lord Renew!, #23 A READING FROM THE PROPHETS Isaiah 55: 6-13 ONE: The Word of the Lord. MANY: Thanks be to God. ANTHEM Bread of Life St. Andrew s Choir, Mandee Sikich, directing TIME WITH THE CHILDREN Julie Sommers SENDING SONG "Jesus Loves Me" on screens GOSPEL READING Luke 8: 1-15 ONE: The Word of the Lord. MANY: Thanks be to God. AN INTERPRETATION OF THE WORD Super Bloom Rev. Suzanne Malloy * HYMN OF RESPONSE We Plow the Fields and Scatter Hymnal, #560 PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD S PRAYER OFFERING AND OFFERTORY This is an intentional time of expressing our gratitude to God. Whether you have an offering this Sunday or not, take the plate, feel its touch in your hands, give thanks to God and bless all that is given this day. * DOXOLOGY Hymnal, #592 * PRAYER OF DEDICATION AND THANKSGIVING INVITATION TO THE LORD S TABLE responsive Friends, this is the joyful feast of the people of God! CONGREGATION: People will come from east and west, and from north and south, and sit at table in the kingdom of God. This is the Lord s Table. CONGREGATION: It is not the Presbyterian table. Neither is it the Lutheran table, the Baptist table, or the Methodist table. CONGREGATION: All are welcome here. Anyone who has been called by God is invited to come and put their trust in Christ. According to Luke, when our risen Lord was at table with his disciples, he took the bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them, just as we, ministering in his name, now give it to you. And when the disciples received it, their eyes were opened and they recognized Jesus! Lift up your hearts! CONGREGATION: We lift them to the Lord. Give thanks, for God is good. CONGREGATION: It is right to give God thanks and praise. Everlasting God, we thank you for making us in your image to live with each other in love, and for the breath of life and the freedom to choose your way. CONGREGATION: Great and wonderful are your works, Lord God Almighty. Your ways are just and true. With people of faith from all times and places, we lift our hearts in joyful praise, for you alone are holy.

Holy God, we thank you for your son Jesus, who lived with us sharing joy and sorrow. He told your story. He healed the sick and was a friend of sinners. He stood against the institutional powers and was killed because of his influence. CONGREGATION: We praise you that he is not dead, but is risen in our hearts that we might carry on his work of love and justice in the world. WORDS OF INSTITUTION CELEBRATION OF COMMUNION by intinction (Gluten free bread is available) Seed, Scattered and Sown Solo: Maggie Knauss * SONG OF GOING OUT The Trees of the Field Hymnal, #302 * CHARGE AND BENEDICTION * BENEDICTION RESPONSE "God Be With You Till We Meet Again" * POSTLUDE Dr. Christopher Davis
