INTROIT: Solo: Your only Son, no sin to hide, but you have sent him from your side, to walk upon this guilty sod, and to become the Lamb of God. Solo: Your gift of love, they crucified, they laughed and scorned him as he died the humble king they named a fraud and sacrificed the Lamb of God. Congregation: O Lamb of God, sweet Lamb of God, I love the holy Lamb of God! O wash me in his precious blood My Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. 2
CALL TO WORSHIP L: O give thanks to the Lord, who is good; Psalms 107:1 P: God s steadfast love endures forever. OPENING PRAYER *HYMN #208 O Blest are They Who in Their Love *CALL TO CONFESSION This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, John 3:19 for people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. Let us uncover our sin before the liberating light of Christ. *PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison) Merciful God, Numbers 21:4 6 we confess the folly of our sin and the hypocrisy of our complaints. We grumble about the evils in our world, even as we commit injustices and profit through deceit. We fret about the scarcity of resources while hoarding earth s goods and cheating the poor. We protest the problems of our world, but we do not actively work to address them. Merciful God, expose our sins before the light of your grace. Heal our sin and free us from our foolish ways that we may know the joy of eternal life in Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen. *KYRIE ELEISON (Lord, Have Mercy) Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us. 3
*ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, John 3:17 but in order that the world might be saved through him. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God. *SHARING GOD S PEACE PROCLAIMING GOD S WORD SCRIPTURE READING New Testament John 3:14-21 Pew Bible page 88 This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! GOD S WORD FOR THE CHILDREN (After the Children s Time, those younger than first grade may go upstairs with our attendants. Because we value children in our worship service, these younger ones are also welcome to stay with their family during the service at the family s discretion.) *HYMN #205 Live in Charity and Steadfast Love (Ubi caritas et amor) (Sing twice, using Latin text the second time through) GOD S WORD FOR OUR LIVES God So Loves This World Rev.
