Hyatt Family of Dutchess County, New York John A. Brebner, January 2019, version 1.1 1. Samuel Hyatt #80379, b. c 1760?. Generation One This relationship based on the Stanford Monthly Meeting records that note Samuel Jr. (assuming a Samuel Sr.!) 1830: Lived in Stanford, Dutchess County, New York. Census shows one male, 50-60, one male 80-90 (likely himself, Samuel), one female 50-60, and one female 60-70 (likely his wife). He is enumerated next to Samuel HYATT, Jr., and James B. HYATT family who were children Is the mystery couple both aged 50-60 the son Abraham who moved to Prince Edward County? Or is he connected more directly to the Abraham HYATT listed in the 1790 Beekman census? I suspect he is a son of Abraham HYATT and Sarah RYDER in Dutchess County, but that still needs to be proven. He married (unidentified) #80380, b. c 1760? 2. i. Samuel Hyatt #80352. 3. ii. James B. Hyatt #75453 b. 1785. 2. Samuel Hyatt #80352. Generation Two The Nine Partners Meeting Minutes show just one "HYATT" entry, that of the marriage of Samuel Jr. and Amy DEUEL. They record that Amy "HIOT" moved with her husband to the Stanford Meeting, 18 APR 1810. 1820: Family with one child (Lydia) in Stanford, Dutchess County, New York 1830: Lived in Stanford County, Dutchess County. He married Amy Deuel #80353, July 1809 in Nine Partners, Dutchess County, New York State. 1 Amy: Nine Partners, Duchess County Friends Minutes: 17 MAY 1810: " To the Monthly Meeting at Stanford... Amy HYATT hath removed to settle with her Husband within the Compass of your meeting... we recommend her to your Care." 4. i. Lydia Hyatt #80381 b. 1810-1820. 1
3. James B. Hyatt #75453, b. 1785 in New York State, 2,3 occupation Farmer, d. 11 July 1861 in Dutchess County, New York State, USA, 3 buried Friends Burial Ground, Stanfordville, Dutchess County, New York. 4,3. The link to father Samuel is based solely on this HYATT family being the only one recorded in Quaker Records... confirm! 1790: The Dutchess County census shows five HYATT families; Abraham in Beekman with a family of four, John in Philipstown, family of six; Joseph in Philipstown, family of four, Samuel in Washington, family of eight (likely the same Samuel found in Stanford in 1800-1820), and Stephen in Southeast. 1800: The Dutchess County census shows at least five HYATT families, only one in Stanford. 1820: The 1820 Stanford, Dutchess County census lists three Hyatt families. Samuel HYATT, Jr. one male 26-44 (Samuel), one female 26-44, (his wife), and one child under ten. Samuel is likely a brother to James. Samuel HYATT, who is likely James' and Samuel's father; with a household of three: two 45+ males and one female 10-16. One of those males would be Samuel, but I'd only be guessing if the other 45+ male was related... (perhaps a brother, relation?). In 1800, that Samuel had one male 45+ (Samuel), one female 45+ (his wife), one male10-15, (son?), one male 16-25 (son?), one male 26-44 (son), two females 16-25 (daughters?), and one female 26-44 (older daughter?). James' family shows a total of three white persons; 1 male 26-44 (James), one female 26-44 (Sarah) and one male child under 10, (likely son James, b 1817)) 1840: The Stanford, Dutchess County census states that the Hyatt family numbered five: 1 male, 1 female 50-59 (James and Sarah), two males 10-14, probably younger sons Daniel and Jonathan, and one female 15-19. I suspect that eldest son James may have been either living by himself, or at school becoming a teacher. It's also possible that there were other children, born 1825-1830... 1860: Lived in Stanford, Dutchess County, NY with wife Sarah. Son Daniel was enumerated consecutively.. Note that the Henry HAIGHT families were also enumerated close by. He married Sarah Deuel #75454, 23 February 1815* in Dutchess County, New York, 5 b. c 1790 in New York State, USA, 6,2 (daughter of Jonathan Deuel #113536 and Content Hoag #113537), d. 11 January 1891 in Dutchess County, NY, USA, 7 buried in Friends Burial Ground, Stanfordville, Dutchess County, New York. 7 Sarah: In the 1820 Stanford, Dutchess County census; there are three "Deuel" families enumerated on the same page as the Hyatt groups. 1880: Lived with son James and family in Stanford, Dutchess County. From son Jonathan's obituary, Sarah lived to be 100. Pine Plaines Register-Herald: 2
"Stanford has the honor of a centenarian, Mrs. Sarah D. Hyatt, who completed her one hundred years on May 21, at her residence, one mile from Stanfordville. She is the only one of this age in this county, so far as your correspondent can learn, and her lifetime covers the period of every president of the United States. She enjoys good health, both of mind and body, but from accidents which have occurred in years past is a little lame, and uses a cane to assist her in walking. She is a very active woman - far more so than many at seventy-five years, and spends all her waking hours in reading and knitting. All the weekly papers, magazines, and many books are at hand, and read by her constantly. her eyesight is good. She has used glasses only during the past few years, and until two years ago she had the best of hearing, when it began to fail, and she has since used an ear-trumpet. Almost any pleasant day she can be seen around the yard, and goes without assistance. She was the daughter of Jonathan Deuell and his wife, Content Hoag, and was married to James B. Hyatt, Feb. 23, 1815. She has five sons and one daughter, of whom, the daughter and three sons are still living. She is a native of Washington, in this county, and lived in Dover until her marriage, since which she has resided where she is now. Her parents had twelve children, the only one surviving besides herself being a sister, who is now in her eightyeighth year. Her brothers and sisters were all long lived, living to the ages of ninety-two, eight-one, seventy-four, and others nearly the same age. Her children who are living are James Hyatt, who lives in the old homestead; Jonathan D. Hyatt of New York; Daniel Hyatt, of Bangal; and Mrs. Koert DuBois, of New York, There are several grand-children living in different places. All of the family who could do so gathered at the old homestead on the memorable anniversary in honor of the event that so seldom occurs in any community". 5. i.
