St. Paul Lutheran Church & Preschool Pastor Duncan McLellan, pastor@stpaulankeny.org Associate Pastor Andrew Coop, pastorandrew@stpaulankeny.org Amy Schmidt, Director of Christian Education, amy@stpaulankeny.org Kathy Olson, Office Manager, kathy@stpaulankeny.org Alissa McLellan, Preschool Director, preschool@stpaulankeny.org Welcome to Worship Jesus feeds 5,000 people on a lunchbox worth of bread and fish. He demonstrates an ability to indefinitely provide for their needs. The men that had followed Jesus want gave up going down to Jerusalem for the celebration of the Passover. They followed him to the point of exhaustion and want to make him king. They are committed. Until, that is, Jesus teaches them what he teaches them next: he is the bread of life; he will raise them up on the last day. For no less than 4 times Jesus says, and I will raise him up on the last day. The people find this teaching so unbelievable that only 12 remain. These are the 12 Apostles, defined in the Gospel of John as those who believe they will be raised by Jesus. So what does this mean for us? That s what we are going to look at today in worship! God bless your time here at St. Paul! Pastor Duncan McLellan Order of Worship for Sunday, March 31, 8:00 am and 10:45 am, Rhonda Christensen, Organist Prelude: Gethsemane Setting by Joseph Herl Opening Hymn: 436 Go to Dark Gethsemane Old Testament Reading: Exodus 16:2-21 Epistle Reading: Acts 2:41-47 Gospel Reading: John 6:1-15 Sermon: Rev. Duncan McLellan Offering: I Offer My Life with Take My Life and Let It Be Consecrated Arranged by Carol Tornquist Distribution: Selections from the LSB We believe the body and blood of Christ are present in the bread and wine of the Lord s Supper. Therefore, those who share in the Sacrament of the Altar should examine themselves, recognize their sin and need for a Savior, and that their Savior comes to them in his meal. They should also be in agreement (fellowship) with those with whom they break bread. Therefore, we encourage those who share our faith (as expressed in the creeds of the church) and beliefs about the Lord s Supper to receive what Christ here gives. Because the reception of the Lord s Supper is not a matter of salvation, we ask that those of a different confession of faith respect the practice of our congregation and either come to the rail to receive a blessing or remain in their pew to prayerfully contemplate the words of Christ as they relate to this Sacrament. Closing Hymn: 813 Rejoice, O Pilgrim Throng Postlude: Praise is Rising with To God Be the Glory Arranged by Carol Tornquist

ENJOY THE CONVENIENCE OF ELEC- TRONIC GIVING St. Paul wants to remind you that we offer electronic giving as a way to automate your regular weekly offering. Electronic giving offers convenience for individual congregation members and provides much-needed donation consistency for our congregation. Online Giving allows you to go to www.stpaulankeny.org at any time to set up an automatic donation plan, change your donation plan, make a onetime donation or view your online donation history. LOOKING FOR PROJECTS Men s Mission Group is looking for projects. If you know of someone in need that could use a helping hand with home repairs/maintenance or light construction, St. Paul Men's Mission Group may be able to assist. Contact Jim Anderson, Bob Peters, or Greg Stokke. NEBRASKA FLOOD RELIEF DONATIONS Our neighbors in Nebraska and western Iowa need our help. Seeing the devastated towns, homes, farms and roads is heart breaking. Even worse, some of our St. Paul members have family in Nebraska that are affected by the flooding. How can you help? Number one: prayers. Second: monetary donations. Please place your cash or check in the box in the Narthex. Write checks to St. Paul Lutheran Church and write NE Flood Relief in the memo line. We will be taking donations until April 7. Donations will be gathered and sent to Iowa District West. IDW has been in contact with the Nebraska District office and with the leaders of disaster response within our LCMS. Once the waters have receded and needs are assessed, IDW will coordinate efforts with the Nebraska District and LCMS Disaster Response. Thank you for your generosity! If you have any questions, you can always contact Ellie Menz, IDW Disaster Response Coordinator at the IDW office. Want to know what s going on at St. Paul? Like us on Facebook! www.stpaulankeny.org

Questions: If you have questions based on this morning s message or topic, write them in the space below. Put this sheet in the offering plate. The answer to your question will be in next week s bulletin. Answer: Please explain: Luke 11:24-26. Did the mute demon return to the man in vs 14? This seems cruel. We don t have time to get into this here, but it is interesting (to me, at least) how this passage is used differently in Matthew and here in Luke. (Feel free to ask about this in a follow-up question J) Here in Luke, Jesus is following-up in 24-26 what he said in verse 23: Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. People are either aligned with Jesus or against him. In 24-26, Jesus is teaching that those who were aligned with him, who fall away, will experience a worse condition than they had before they aligned themselves with him. The author of Hebrews puts it this way: For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt (6:4-6). Jesus is not talking in Luke 11 about the mute demon returning to the man, but about the consequences of backsliding, or outright denying him.
