Advent Readers We need volunteers to read the Advent Devotionals on the following Sundays: December 9th, 16th & 23rd. Please see Rev. Ford if you would like to read and to get a copy of that week s devotional. Christmas Display This year, we have a Christmas Display in the lobby of Richardson Chapel. Please bring in items of your own that make you think of Christmas, to share and put on display. Memorial Poinsettias As we are in transition, we are handling our Memorial Poinsettias as little differently this year. Please come a little early and bring them in with you to Morning Worship on Sunday, December 23rd, and we will display them that day. We will ask you to take them back home with you after worship. Please let Malokia know in the office in whose memory you re placing them, so that can be included in the bulletin. Thank you! Helping the Interchurch Food Pantry Meijer s Simply Give Food Pantry Donation Program helps provide for the Johnson County Interchurch Food Pantry. From November 18th Dec. 29th, Franklin Meijer customers can purchase $10 donation cards, which will be converted into food-only gift cards and given to the Pantry. And Dec. 7th is Double Match Day! On this day, Meijer will double match every $10 donation. So, for every $10 card purchased, Meijer will give $20 to the Pantry, resulting in a $30 donation. This is a very easy way to continue to help the IFP help those who struggle with being able to provide for their families. Weather Closures In the event of inclement weather, we will post closures on the following tv channels: WTTV CBS 4, WXIN Fox 59 & WTHR NBC 13. You should also receive a call from your flock leader.
Pastor s Corner December 2018 Advent is about both waiting and preparing for the celebration of Christ having come to identify with us. In the waiting, we identify with those who waited for the fulfillment of the promised Messiah. Over all the long years, God proved to be faithful to His sending the Messiah to make His people free. Jesus does this most perfectly in the message of the Gospel. Part of the waiting is in these few days that we have before we celebrate Christmas day. The rest of the waiting is coupled with Jesus promise to return. So we look not only back to what God did in history. but what is yet to come. Advent is also about the preparing. Our time of waiting is not meant to be idle time. The preparing is to be ready to welcome Christ into our hearts, and to be ready to worship. It is about opening our minds and souls to the voice of God. The preparation is about telling and living the good news. In the busyness of the season, it is easy to focus on the activities and all that needs to be done and to forget to wait and prepare. NCS Sunday & Business Meeting Thank you to everyone who came to NCS and making your financial commitment to FBC for 2019. We still have a few cards out there were awaiting to be returned that may affect our final working budget for the year. Our Annual Meeting will be Sunday, February 10th, after Morning Worship and a pitch-in dinner. We will provide more details as we get closer to that day. Upcoming Holiday Service at Richardson Chapel: Sunday, December 2nd: Evening Christian worship service @ 8 p.m. (Advent kickoff) Tuesday, December 4th: Zero Rehearsal Christmas Pageant @11 a.m. These are a lot of fun to watch, according to Rev. Hannah Adams Ingram. Costumes were donated by FBC. Tuesday, December 18th: Blue Christmas service @ noon; all are welcome, but this is geared more for an older audience, since the students will be on break. If you aren t familiar with these types of services, they re meant to give people a chance to reflect and acknowledge complicated feelings that often accompany the holidays, feeling down due to loss, stress, family, etc. New Initiative from the Office of Religious Life at Franklin College: Rev. Dr. Hannah Adams Ingram has begun hosting a monthly, Sunday evening nondenominational Christian worship service. One of her goals with this initiative is to introduce students to members of local churches where they could worship on Sunday mornings. We can help her by attending one of these worship services, share materials and information about FBC with them, or be their snack sponsor (limited to one church at a time). If you would like to participate and represent FBC, please let Malokia or Rev. Ford know! The dates for these are as follows: December 9th, February 10th, March 10th, April 21st (Easter), May 12th.
