Remaining Sundays in Advent include: December 9th, 16th, and 23rd. We invite readers for both the 8am and 10:30am services. Thanks.

THE FEAST OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is celebrated on December 12, when people from across Mexico and other countries make a pilgrimage to see an image of Mary (Virgen Morena), believed to be authentic, in the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City. According to legend, a man named Juan Diego encountered the Virgin Mary twice in Mexico City, on December 9 and December 12 in 1531. Mary told Juan to ask the bishop to build a church on Tepeyac Hill. The bishop however, needed proof of Juan s encounter and asked for a miracle. When Juan returned to the hill, there were roses in a spot where cacti previously grew. He showed the roses to the archbishop and revealed an image on his cloak of the Lady of Guadalupe. The bishop was convinced of the miracle and built a church in honor of the event. We will celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe at Christ Church on December 11th and 12th with the following schedule: December 11th at 7pm Holy Eucharist service, and happy birthday feast with Mariachis December 12th at 7pm Holy Eucharist service, music, food, and competition on the best typical dress like Juan Diego and Lady of Guadalupe. AMOUNT & NUMBER OF PLEDGES FOR 2019 VS. 2018 Pledge 2019: Week 5 (12-2-19); Amount $384,377; #118; Pledge 2018: Week 5 (12-10-18); Amount $413,008, #120. MISSION OF MERCY FOR DECEMBER, RECTOR S DISCRETIONARY FUND As with any outreach organization, to help those in need requires the generous donation of funds. The Rector s discretionary fund is no different. As a priest, people come to Ceci for help. She helps people in spiritual, caring ways, but sometimes the need is financial, whether it's food for a family or a light bill for an elderly person. Please support Ceci in her calling to help those who come to her, by giving to her discretionary fund. A basket will be in front of the altar for this Sunday. December 2, 2018, to receive your donations. As always, donations are accepted year round. Advent, the season of waiting and expecting, is a great time to give on behalf of those in need. Thank you.

2019 LITURGICAL CALENDARS The 2019 liturgical calendars are now available for the suggested donation of $2.00 each. They are located in the Narthex and in the church office. ORDER OF ST. Let me know if you d also like to join us for dinner at The Crossing Restaurant at 5:15pm. The Flower Guild wishes to offer its thanks and appreciation for the parish support of our efforts to glorify God with the natural beauty of His creation. You can find these new Christmas envelopes in the pews beginning this Sunday, December 2, 2018, and offer donations In Thanksgiving for, In Memory of, or both. We are accepting Christmas greens dedications & contributions through Monday, December 17, 2018. You may also email the church office at office@ccnorcross.org or call 770/447-1166 for more details or information.

LAND SALE STATUS UPDATE Unexpectedly, the City of Norcross approved a moratorium on new development and rezoning requests so they could complete an update to the City Comprehensive Development Plan. This occurred 10 days before we were scheduled to submit our rezoning application. We have chosen a strategy to vigorously engage with the city to have the moratorium lifted. There are significant challenges still to overcome, but if the moratorium is lifted early in 2019, and if our rezoning request is approved by March, we are hopeful that will put us back on schedule.

MEMORIAL GARDEN AND FRONT YARD RENOVATIONS We are making steady, but slower than expected progress. We have finalized the sign design, we selected the contractor, and have secured the required permit. We have submitted all of the landscape drawings required for a permit and anticipate approval in December. The permit request for modifying the exterior of the sanctuary wall was delayed pending review by the City s Architectural Review Committee; their next meeting is December 18 th. We have received 90% of the funds necessary for the project. In terms of the timeline, we hope to begin the Memorial Garden landscape work this month (pending the permit), but will need to defer the start of the sign and sanctuary wall construction until January. We expected the construction period to last 5 6 weeks once we get underway. StewardTIP: Amazon Smile!
