Family Friday - February 10 We are looking for old (used or new) greeting cards (any occasion) to use for a valentine s craft. If you have some to part with, please leave them on the library counter or give them to Sandy Clark. Thanks.

The Islam Faith An Introduction Georgia Flinn, from the First Baptist Church, will be offering a self-developed introduction to the Islam Faith. Topics will include its history, its main sects, the Quran, Ishmael the Sacrificial Son, Pillars of Faith, how this faith evaluates Jesus, Jihad, who do Islamic believers worship, how the Islamic Faith is affecting America. This is a class that is intended to provide information about the Islamic Faith, thereby better enabling Christians to understand, converse with and witness to Muslims. It is not intended to be a political forum. The class will meet in the Bible Study Room located in the First Baptist Church, CLC, 2nd floor and run 7 weeks, 14 February 28 March, 6:30 p.m. 8:00 p.m. Attendees should be at least High School Juniors. Chief's Mark's House Fund We have started a memorial fund in Nancy Smith's name to raise sufficient funds to purchase a solar panel system and get it installed during the construction phase of the permanent Mark's House Orphanage in Pignon, Haiti this summer to provide the electricity necessary to run things in the orphanage since town-provided electricity is almost non-existent. Please write your checks to FBC Bloomfield and identify your donations with "Chief's Mark's House" to make sure the donation gets to the correct account. If God blesses this effort to over the goal of $10,000 Tooger will oversee that the additional funds are appropriately used to help furnish the new orphanage with needed items. Summer Mission Trip A group of folks from multiple churches around the country will be going to Pignon, Haiti, July 10-21, 2017. They will do a variety of work on Mark's House. Scholarship assistance of $500 per person is available. If you are interested in going, please contact Tooger at chiefofsmith@hotmail.com or 812-659-2616 for more information. Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV 1984) The First Baptist Church is the body of Christ, nurturing all parts of the body within, bringing Christ to others and others to Christ. Bloomfield First Baptist Church Vision Statement At the top of this page is Jesus answer to the question, Which is the greatest commandment in the Law? The answer comes in two, inseparable parts: Love your God and love your neighbor. The two go hand in hand. Next you see the FBC vision statement, which we have looked at before and will consider again in the month ahead. It flows from various teachings in the Bible and serves as an expression of Jesus great commandment. But where do these relationships with God, within the body of Christ, and with our neighbors happen? How are these relationships initiated? In what venues are they cultivated? How do these relationships grow? During the month of February the Lord is going to have us looking at the subject of interface during our sermons together. The Webster s dictionary on my shelf defines interface as a point or means of interaction between two systems, disciplines, groups, etc. When, where, and how are we interfacing with God? When, where, and how are we interfacing with one another, as Christians? When, where, and how are we interfacing with our neighbors, including especially those neighbors who do not know Christ? Interfaces can be formal or informal. They can be described in terms of the physical space or time in which they occur. Interfaces can happen in different territories home, neutral, or away. Interfaces can be shallow or deep. Some interfaces occur naturally for me; others require a great deal of effort to construct. A person s comfort level varies greatly depending on the interface and the other people involved. All of us, as individuals and groups, have certain default interfaces. There are venues in which we naturally find ourselves, settings in which we are most comfortable. We have our default ways of interfacing with God, with believers, and with others. Default does not necessarily mean good or bad; it just indicates what is normal. But what if our current interfaces with God, Christians, and neighbors are lacking? What if there are depths of relationship with my God or with my fellow human beings which I will never know as long as I confine myself to the interfaces in which my relationships are currently contained? What if new interfaces are needed? There are basically two kinds of couplers for HO-scale model trains. (The couplers on a train connect the cars to one another.) A locomotive or a train car could be in perfectly good condition, but if the two don t have the same style of coupler, they will not work together. They cannot connect. The interface needs to change. I believe the Lord is calling us, as a church, to consider the interfaces in which we connect with Him, with one another, and with the world around us. The Lord has more for us something better if perhaps also harder. Let us pray that the Lord will redeem and renew our interfaces, so that His love will flow more freely through us. Grace and peace, Nathan
