DECEMBER 2017 The Messenger VOLUME 60 NO. 12 Pastor - Dr. Eric Spano Youth and Children - Bobby Vann Dear MPBC family and friends, I can write this note with a clear conscience because last night we ushered in the Christmas season with our Hanging of the Greens service. Matthew and Amy did an outstanding job preparing the choir and the choir did an amazing job with their songs! Thank you MPBC for making Hanging of the Greens such a wonderful church experience. So, my family thinks that I am a scrooge when it comes to Christmas. That s not necessarily true; let me explain. I am a scrooge when it comes to beginning to celebrate Christmas way too early. I am sorry I can only take about 2 weeks or so of Christmas music, not 8! For me, once we get past the second week in December, I start to get excited about Christmas and the traditions my family have established. For example, I love the tradition we started many years ago. My Dad sends us a honey-baked ham every year around Christmas. So, what we do is, we worship together during the Christmas Eve service and head to the house and enjoy the ham with many trimmings. Then we spend the evening arguing about whether we (I), will let the kids open one present on Christmas Eve, to which I give in. For me, Christmas Eve service is a priority. Worship first, all the other stuff second. I encourage you to make our Christmas Eve service at 6pm a priority for your family. It is casual, laid back, but intimate and worshipful. It s also the perfect service to invite an unchurched family member and/or friend. Did you know that most families in America still associate Christmas with going to church? Wow! That s opportunity! We are excited to visit with the 6 Cokes on Sunday December 10 th during our morning worship service. This is a part of our Lottie Moon Christmas Offering emphasis on International Missions. Also, Sunday night December 10 th at 6pm, Dr. Ken Kessler will be here to help us celebrate what God has done during our Share and Prayer Triplets. If you were a part of a Prayer Triplet (or quad) we really need you to be here for this most important time. Of course, if you were not on a Triplet, you are still welcome to join us. We have lots going on this month, so make sure that you stay connected by visiting us at www.mpbcroanoke.com for all the latest happenings. I want to thank all of our volunteers who tirelessly serve the Lord through MPBC. You all are the best and it is because of you that MPBC may not be the biggest church, but we can be the best! From my family and I, we wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May God grant you the desires of your heart as your heart is turned toward Him. Gratefully yours, Pastor Eric

Dear Church Family, I hope that you enjoyed your Thanksgiving as much as I enjoyed mine! As we approach Christmas I am excited for the opportunity to celebrate the birth of our Savior with you! This month we have more than a few opportunities for you and your family to plug in and worship with us! Take a look at all of the different events coming up, invite a friend and join us as we express thanks to our great God! Merry Christmas!
