We are deeply appreciative of your kindness and assistance with this project. Jean Kinnamon 402-643-4172 Pastor Robert Perry was born and raised for 30 years in Delaware. He is a lifelong Methodist. As a teenager, he was a lifeguard and sailing instructor at Camp Pecometh a United Methodist camp in Maryland. Summer vacations were spent at the Delaware sea shore with his family. He has two older sisters. Pastor Robert spent roughly 15 years in the business world before finally answering the call to ministry. He enjoys reading, gardening, and cooking, and movies. Joleen is a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, and has an older brother (Jay) and older sister (Jeni). She has worked for the State of Nebraska for over 20 years. She enjoys gardening, cooking, canning, kayaking, fishing, and getting to know people. Between them, they have two sons from previous marriages. Ian Perry is entering his senior year at Omaha North H.S. Julius Elwell just graduated from Kearney H.S. Jeannie Jeary 402-643-2344

With conference building moves, districts get new offices The closing of the conference office Lincoln means a new home for the Blue River district office. The Blue River District office will relocate to ConnectioN Point, at 1333 N. 33rd St. in Lincoln, the former location of Faith UMC. The move should take place once construction on the new offices is completed, said the Rev. Bill Ritter, Blue River District superintendent. The phone number will remain 402-323-8849, but will ring in Topeka until the move is complete. Ask for Bill Ritter or administrative assistant Pam Savery. July 24th, 7:00 pm On Sunday June 24 th we honored Jo Ellen Axthelm in her appointment as Associate Pastor of SUMC for 2018 2019~ She will be attending courses of study twice a year as part of her educational process, which averages approximately $2500/per year and is a 5-year process. If you wish to assist Jo Ellen in her educational expenses any checks written need to be written directly to her (Jo Ellen Axthelm). These gifts may be mailed or left in the office anytime. Shake It Up Café Where Kids Carry Out God s Recipe! This July 30th to August 2nd we will be hosting Vacation Bible School, with our friends from Faith Lutheran and St. Andrew s. Each evening will begin with sign in at 5:30p.m. in the SUMC fellowship hall with a meal (Thursday at Faith Lutheran for a cookout). Children will then head to worship in the sanctuary. Following our opening worship the preschoolers and kindergartners will stay in the SUMC building for activity centers of Bible, Missions/Science, Crafts/Art, etc. The 1st-4th graders will head to Faith Lutheran for their activity centers of Bible, Missions/ Science, Crafts/Art, Music, etc. Groups will return to the sanctuary at SUMC for closing worship and be picked up/signed out there at 8:20p.m. Thursday night all students will be collected at Faith Lutheran. Sign up now with the registration forms, located by the church office at SUMC or email Jo Ellen for additional answers to your questions. Notes from Jo Ellen Church Family Life I cannot thank my church family enough for the beautiful cards and gifts of love for my education process. I will go to week two of licensing school in July and learned much from week one this month. The fellowship times on Sunday the 24th with cupcakes/ice cream were much appreciated. Most thoughtful is your outpouring of support, as I walk this faith journey alongside you as your Associate Pastor. I love you and thank you as I am deeply humbled by your love! See you Sunday as we welcome our new Senior Pastor, Robert Perry! It is my prayer that you make both Robert and Joleen feel as welcome as you have my family. Lay Leadership Report 2018 Great Plains Annual Conference, June 13-16, Wichita, KS Theme: Therefore: Go Proclaim Christ, Serve Others, Seek Justice, Know God As a denomination founded on addressing social issues, workshops and discussion centered upon immigration issues (specifically the separation of families at the border), gun violence legislation, climate change, poverty/hunger issues. More topics meriting discussion were: evangelism, peaceful conflict settlement, growing small and mid-sized churches, the importance of small group families within existing congregation, the introduction of Fresh Expressions as a movement to start new kinds of churches tethered to existing congregations, and VBS as community outreach. Celebrations: + In response to natural disasters in 2017, the GPC collected 6500+ UMCOR flood buckets and in excess of $850,000 for relief. + GPC Lay Leader is Lisa Maupin from Lincoln. She considers laity to be the lifeblood of our congregations and communities. + 90.1% of all GPC churches contributed their assessed mission shares in 2017. In our own Blue River District, 98% met their mission shares. + The Blue River District Office will be moving to ConnectioN Point, 1333 N. 33 rd, in Lincoln. Three proposals coming from the special committee, A Way Forward, have been submitted and will be addressed specifically at a Special General Conference in St. Louis, 2/23-26/19. This committee was tasked by the 2016 General Conference to respond to the World UMC Church regarding LBGTQ issues. Each GP District will hold their own conversation session with the bishop later this summer. Our Blue River District is currently scheduled to meet with Bishop Saenz on Saturday, August 25, from 3-5 p.m. at Trinity UMC, 7130 Kentwell Lane, Lincoln, NE regarding this issue. Attending from Seward were Pastor Robert Henre, JoEllen Axthelm, and Lynette Broderick. A full report was given to the congregations at the June 17 services. SUMC...On the Move July Newsletter (A component of the Faith Community Nursing Program) July is the month to celebrate the birth of our nation, to marinate in the beauty and bounty of summer, and to congratulate yourself for being a part of SUMC On the Move. This is our one year anniversary! Continue to appropriate a part of your daily activities to physical activity. If you haven t made the commitment, there s always room for more! (See end of article.) Our July all-ages activity is an afternoon at the Lincoln Children s Zoo, 1222 South 27 th Street. This no-cost event is Saturday, July 28 from 2:30-5 p.m. followed by a picnic in Antelope Park. We will meet at the Zoo entrance for free admission and train ride tickets. In addition to trekking around the Zoo, this area is also the intersection of other trails available for walking or biking. When the Zoo closes at 5 p.m., meander or drive to Shelter House #2 on the north end of Antelope Park by the large playground area. Food will be provided. Individual pledges will be included on giving statements for a comparison of how close your giving is to your pledge.
