Parish Buildings and Grounds Improvements As most of you have noticed, we have had a great deal of activity this summer concerning our buildings and grounds. The Saint Martin Center has a new metal roof, foundation repaired, Archives remodeled, and decorative rock added to the outside of the building. The RE building (grade school) had the chimney repaired, some of the rooms painted and clean-up done. The Church had the steeple repaired, an automatic door opener installed on the door located on the handicap ramp and new vents installed in the foundation holes. The Rectory foundation was repaired, new basement windows installed and a dehumidifier placed in the easement. The gym has had a new stage curtain installed, light fixtures installed in the music storage room and as you can see, the foundation was repaired. The Parish Hall received a new roof and exterior paint. The Pavilion also received exterior paint. Even though all of this work came about at the same time and some of it was due to neglect, the Parish was able to make these repairs without financial difficulty. We have spent a great deal of money, but we had it in the bank to do so. With that said, next year will be carefully planned and only priority or emergency items will be replaced or repaired. The Parish owes a great deal of gratitude to the Picnic Committee and monetary donations from parishioners which has assisted the Parish financially in making these repairs. We are thankful for Rhonda and all her volunteers who carried out the building repair process. We are thankful for Renee Jenkins who guided us thru the financial process. We are thankful for Father Hopper and Deacon Joe for their guidance/assistance. On the agenda over the next few months or even next year will be to re-landscape the front of the Saint Martin Center. The RE building will get two Heat/AC units for two of the rooms. The Church may get new louvers for the steeple, choir loft wall will be repaired and landscaping will be replaced around the lights in front of the church. The Rectory railings will be removed, original porch posts installed and the green carpet will be removed from the porch floor. The Gym will get new gutter down spouts on the front of the building and pipes will go underground to carry rain water around back of the gym and the dirt work that was recently done will be finished/graded and a concrete path will be poured from the blacktop to the gym kitchen door and to the overhead door under the Parish Hall. The Parish Hall will receive new gutters/down spouts, eves will be covered with vinyl and the decision will be made as to what extent the Parish Hall will be remodeled. The Pavilion needs a few new outside posts replaced and possibly a outside water spicket. The Cemetery work will consist of cleaning headstones and working on straightening old stones. If you have any suggestions/concerns or want to assist in any of these projects, please contact Rhonda or Glenn. Saint Martins is truly blessed to have parishioners that continue to be generous with their time/talent/checkbook/advice and that s what makes Saint Martins the great catholic Parish that it is today, Thank You and God Bless all of you. Cemetery News Cemetery Main Gate is open 8:00AM-4:30PM Tuesdays through Friday and on Holidays. Call the parish office to schedule other times. Parish Hall/Pavilion or Cafeteria: there is no rental fee but there is a $100.00 damage deposit and $95.00 liability insurance fee for renting the parish hall or cafeteria. This Advent, as we strive to become the-best-version-of-ourselves, fill us with a deep and abiding peace. Help us share that peace with everyone we encounter, especially those who need it most. Amen. from dynamiccatholic.com Marriage Moments Marital arguments sometimes go round in circles with each spouse trying to prove they were right. Sometimes you are right, but that's not the point. If you can recognize part of the argument that you were wrong in, simply saying "I was wrong" can help. Resist following it with, "But..." Parenting Pointers Dec. 13 is the Feast of St. Lucia (Lucy), a virgin who brought gifts to the poor around the winter solstice. Her name means light. You may already be lighting Advent candles as you approach Christmas. As you light two candles today, tell your children the story of St. Lucia. Word of Life Prayer For expectant mothers: That the Lord will provide all of their needs and prepare them to welcome their children with joy.
