FROM THE PASTOR S DESK ITEM #1 As we enter this week that we call Holy please plan on celebrating these sacred mysteries by joining us at our liturgical celebrations on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday. Schedules have been mailed to all those who are registered and in our database. Extra schedules may be found in the baskets in the back of the Church and at the side entrance. The schedule of the various liturgical celebrations is also printed elsewhere in this bulletin. May the events we recall this week remind us all of the great love that Our Lord has for each of us. ITEM #2 Coming up in the future: TRIDUUM in honor of St. Peregrine, Patron Saint of those afflicted with cancer on April 30, May 1 and May 2 at 7:30 P. M. The first two nights will consist of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the Rosary, prayers and litany to St. Peregrine, Benediction and veneration of the relic of St. Peregrine. The last night will consist of the celebration of Mass in honor of St. Peregrine with Anointing of the Sick and veneration of the relic of St. Peregrine. Most Reverend Raymond Chappetto, D.D., V.G., V.E., Vicar General, Vicar for Clergy and Consecrated Life, Auxiliary Bishop of Brooklyn and Pastor of St. Kevin s Church, Flushing will be the main celebrant and homilist. Please mark down the dates and join in prayer with those who are afflicted with cancer. ITEM #3 Thank you to who have already responded to the 2019 ACA. May God reward your generosity. Our goal this year is $86,911.00. So far, 71 families and /or individuals have pledged $25,866.67, and paid $20,910.67. The balance left on pledges already made is $4,976.00. These numbers are as of April 5. Since the bulletin for this week had to go to the printer earlier than usual a more up-to-date accounting will be given in the future. ITEM #5 The children of the parish are asked to bring their Easter baskets to the 9:30 A.M. Mass on Easter Sunday. The children and their baskets will receive a special blessing in honor of Our Lord s Resurrection. ITEM #6 The Sacred Heart Finance Council distributed a memo and financial statement to all parishioners through the bulletin on the weekend of Sunday March 16-17. If you did not receive a copy, please pick one up at the back of the church or from the rectory. You are invited to send questions or comments concerning this information to the Finance Council through the rectory mailbox. Please mark your envelope Finance Council. ITEM #7 I would like to bring to your attention a newly released movie entitled UNPLANNED. It is the true story of Abby Johnson, former Clinic Director for Planned Parenthood for eight years. Abby really believed she was helping women. Most women, she recounts, come to Planned Parenthood because they are scared or feel abandoned or they have no other choice. Almost all of them ask will the baby be in pain or will suffer and they are told NO. Abby believed that too. However, what she observed one day on a sonogram while assisting a doctor who was performing an abortion astounded her. She saw the baby in the womb trying to get away from the instruments the doctor was using to end its life. That experience led her to realize she needed to do something to really help women who were in crisis. The movie is based on Abby s book and tells the story of her journey from pro-choice to pro-life. Please consult the internet for movie theaters in the area where the film will be shown. ITEM #4 We will once again be celebrating the Blessing of Easter Food on Holy Saturday, April 20 th at 12 Noon. There is a flyer in the bulletin with some suggestions of foods to be blessed and their meaning. Please consider making this a part of your family s Easter celebration.
