From the Pastor s Desk Dear Folks, Throughout his Gospel, Luke s Jesus has preached the joy of humble servanthood. In his final hours, Jesus exhibits that same great generosity, forgiving spirit and abandonment for the sake of others. Only in Luke s account of the Passion does Jesus heal the severed ear of the high priest s servant. He does not rebuke his disciples for falling asleep during the garden watch. He urges the women of Jerusalem not to be concerned for him but for themselves: if such injustice can befall the innocent Jesus, what horrors await an unrepentant Jerusalem? At the Place of the Skull, Jesus crucifixion becomes an occasion for divine forgiveness: he prays that God will forgive his executioners and promises paradise to the penitent thief crucified with him. Even Jesus final words on the cross are not words of abandonment but of hope: Luke s Crucified does not cry out Psalm 22, as he does in Matthew and Mark s narrative; my God, my God, why have you forsaken me, but prays Psalm 31: 5-6: Father, into your hands I commend my spirit. Luke s Jesus is the suffering Servant whose death for the sake of humanity will be exalted in the Resurrection three days hence. A Blessed Holy Week, Fr. Mike Our new egiving program, Faith Direct, is safe, convenient and it works! Thank you to all who have already signed up. This year the Chrism Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 15 at 8:00 PM. Good Friday Special Collection: Shrines of the Holy Land Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. Please be generous! Blessing of Easter Food Holy Saturday, April 20 Bring your food baskets to the Parish Center at 12 Noon for a Blessing of Easter Food.
