FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT APRIL 7, 2019 To the exiles in Babylon, Isaiah foretells a new exodus (1), when the Lord will lead his people from captivity to freedom (Ps). True freedom is rooted in the person of Jesus, not in observance of the Law (2). It is he who challenges us to examine our own hearts before self-righteously judging others (3). TOGETHER LET US GO FORTH JUNTOS SIGAMOS ADELANTE CAMPAIGN PRAYER The Together Campaign The Together Campaign Campaign packets will be available in the Narthex after all Masses this weekend and next weekend. Special thanks to those families who have already made their pledge. A winter parishioner from Minnesota recently sent in a generous campaign gift and offered the following note: Eternal Father, through your Beloved Son Jesus and the intercession of Our Lady of the Lake, pour out your Holy Spirit on our Campaign. You have blessed Our Lady of the Lake Parish abundantly. Thank you for all those who came before us to provide our beautiful church and campus. May the gifts and labor we now offer begin in your mercy and be brought to completion by your saving help. Open our minds to your thoughts. Open our hearts to your generosity. Open our hands to the work you have prepared for us, so that we may hand on with increase that which we received from the faithful hands of others. We ask this through Christ, Our Lord. Amen. "Dear Father Chauncey, As parents of 4 sons we believe in Catholic education as all 4 attended a K-12 Catholic school, with 2 attending through college. Two grandsons - one in Catholic high school and one at a Catholic college - continue our families tradition. We wish you and the parish well with your important project. Thank you for your liturgies and great homilies during out time in Lake Havasu City. You are in our prayers. Visit TogetherGoForth.org and click Donate. To give securely and directly, be sure to select Our Lady of the Lake Parish, LHC to ensure your pledge helps our parish. If you have any questions please call the Parish Office at 928-855-2685.

SUNDAY REFLECTION FOR 5th WEEK OF LENT THE LORD IS DOING SOMETHING NEW FOR HIS PEOPLE All the readings today seem to say to us: "Forget the past and push on into the future. God's words to the Israelites in captivity through the Prophet seem to resonate all through the readings: "Remember not the events of the past; the things of long ago consider not. See I am doing something new! Now it springs forth. Do you not perceive it?" What is happening is that a way is being prepared for us all to return to our homeland and to a happier future. Paul writes to the Philippians from prison, facing his own death, and he tells them, I give no thought to what lies behind but push on to what is ahead. This is apt and encouraging! And when Jesus forgives the woman who is dragged before him in the Gospel story, he tells her, Go your way and from now on avoid this sin. In otherwise, Jesus invites her to a new relationship with Him and to a fresh start in life. But how could any of them really forget the past? In the case of the Jewish people in exile, this experience was an important part of their history, second only to the exodus from Egypt and their journey through the desert which they explicitly remember each year when they celebrate the feast of Passover. Paul himself cannot forget his extraordinary encounter with God when he was knocked off his horse on the road to Damascus, an experience that resulted in his conversion. Whatever our past experiences may be, the message today is clear to us, that when God forgives us our sins He expects us to begin to live a life of grace and union with Him. Jesus doesn t say that sin does not matter because sin does matter and damages our relationship with God. What he is saying to us is that when we receive forgiveness he expects us to live as new people afterwards. When he says these words to us, he means them. He means that our negative past is dead and extinguished like a candle. So Christ will always fill us with laughter and Joy. This is what he will complete for us soon through his death and resurrection. We live in a world that desperately needs something new. We need hope to push on to what is ahead, as Paul urges. Jesus is here to restore our hope, and give us every reason to continue living. This means that in spite of the difficulties of this present moment and season, the Lord will put a smile on our faces soon. Surely, he will do this because: Weeping may endure at night, but joy comes in the morning (Ps 30, 5). So, there is hope because we are approaching our morning. Hence, we must be positive about the future as we approach the Paschal. Like this woman, Jesus is always giving us new opportunities in spite of our weaknesses. He knows how vulnerable we are to sin. He knows the forces we contend with everyday in our life and society. His mission is to save us from all our personal sins and accusations. It is not to condemn us. Since He promises us a better future and a share in his glory if we remain faithful to this command, let us constantly run to Him irrespective of our situation. Yes, "What marvels the Lord worked for us, indeed we were glad! Fr. Julius Traveler s Prayer Gracious God, We thank you for making this beautiful world and for calling us to be your people. Bless us with every heavenly blessing and give us a safe journey. Help us to enjoy these days of travel and let them be a time of refreshment and joy. Give us grace that we may serve you each day and grow in your love.

Bereavement Group Have you lost someone dear to you? You are not alone. You are invited to join our Bereavement Group every Wednesday We have two sessions that you may attend: Wednesday morning after the 8:30 am Mass in St. Thomas More Room Wednesday evening after the 5:30 pm Mass in St. Maria Goretti Room Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord s Supper April 18, 2019 7:00 pm During the Last Supper, Christ performs an act of love and service in the washing of the feet of His disciples. This humble act was Jesus way of teaching His disciples and us to give respect and serve. One way that we do this, as a parish, is that we remember those who go hungry by bringing a non-perishable food item to be placed around the altar during Offertory on Holy Thursday. The food donations and any monetary donations will be given to the Soup Kitchen. Disposal of Palms and Blessed Religious Articles If you have any old blessed palms, other religious articles or prayer books that have lost their usefulness, you may have them disposed of at the Burning of Holy Oils after Tenebrae on Holy Wednesday, April17, 2019. Please place your old broken religious articles in the basket in the narthex by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Easter Flowers What better way to express your joy in the Risen Lord than to adorn His altar at Easter! We will be accepting donations for flowers to decorate the sanctuary throughout the Easter season. Your donation may be made in memory of a loved one or for your own special reasons. Use the envelopes provided in your envelope packet or in the pews, and return them prior to Palm Sunday, April14, 2019. The envelopes may be placed in the collection basket or brought to the Parish Office. Tenebrae Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 7:00 pm The service of Tenebrae, or shadows, grew out of a combination night prayer and early morning prayer, with an additional focus on the commemoration of the Passion of our Lord. This service is tradition, used in the last days of Holy Week, to impress upon the hearts of believers the awful consequences of sin and the magnitude of the Savior s sacrifice. Please join us immediately after the Tenebrae for a prayer service as we burn last year s Holy Oils, palms, and other religious articles in preparation for the parish s reception of this year s Holy Oils. Confession will follow. Entrance Song I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say Horatius Bonar I heard the voice of Jesus say, Come unto me and rest; Lay down, O weary one, lay down Your head up on my breast. I came to Jesus as I was, so weary, worn, and sad; I found in him a resting place, and he has made glad. I heard the voice of Jesus say Behold, I freely give The living water; thirsty one, stoop down, and drink, and live. I came to Jesus, and I drank Of that living stream; My thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in him. I heard the voice of Jesus say, I am this dark world s light; look unto me, your morn shall rise, and all your day be bright. I looked to Jesus, and I found In him my star, my sun; and in that light of life I ll walk till trav ling days are done. Psalm 126 The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy. 8:45 am Mass Only- Psalm 130 With the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption. Offertory Song Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling Will L. Thompson/E.L. Maxwell Refrain: Come home, come home, Ye who are weary, come home; Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling: Calling, O sinner, come home! Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me; See, on the portals He s waiting and watching, watching for you and for me. Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading, pleading for you and for me? Why should we linger and heed not His mercies, mercies for you and for me? SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYER (For those who are not able to receive Communion at this time) My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. Communion Songs Strength for the Journey Michael John Poirier Refrain: I will be, I will be, I will be strength for the journey. I will be, I will be, I will be strength for the journey. There is a road meant for you to travel. Narrow and steep is the shepherd s way, and as you say, Yes, letting me guide you, I will be strength for the journey. There is a cross meant for you to carry. There is a cross meant for you alone, and as you bow down in humble surrender, I will be strength for the journey. How many times have you doubted my word? How many times must I call your name? And as you say, Yes, letting me love you, I will be strength for the journey. Stand By Me Tom Kendzia Refrain: Stand by me, stand by me. Lift me up from the restless sea. When I am lost, when love can't be found, when no one cares, Lord, stand by me. When the storms of life are raging, Lord stand by me. When the current pulls me under, Lord, stand by me. When the rising waters toss me like a ship upon the sea, You who rule the wind and water, Lord, stand by me. In the midst of persecution, Lord, stand by me. When my enemies surround me, Lord, stand by me. When the tyrant wields his terror and the armies wage their might, when the darkness overwhelms me, Lord, stand by me. Closing Song Jerusalem, My Destiny Rory Cooney Refrain: I have fixed my eyes on your hills, Jerusalem, my destiny! Though I cannot see the end for me, I cannot turn away. We have set our hearts for the way; this journey is our destiny. Let no one walk alone. The journey makes us one. To the tombs I went to mourn the hope I thought was gone. Here among you I awoke to unexpected dawn. Words and music used with permission. CCLI License #1680760 is printed with copyright permission from OCP Publications, 5536 N.E. Salmo 125 Grandes cosas has hecho por nosotros, Señor. Pues, yo reconozco mi culpa, pienso siempreen mi pecado. Words and music used with permission.
