The mission of St. Paul s United Methodist Church is to Teach, Share, and Witness the Love of Jesus Christ Your Giving Matters New Donation Program! The General Council on Finance and Administration of the United Methodist Church is pleased to present UMCmarket.org, a tremendously rewarding opportunity to earn money for our church. It makes it possible for our church to receive donations from retailer every time you make an online purchase. The best thing is that you don t need to change anything from how you shop today, and every small donation makes a difference. This allows our church family to do together what we cannot do alone. How it Works. Every store at UMCmarket is happy to pay a percentage of the purchased amount as a donation. There is no additional cost or charge for either your or our church. The store sends UMCmarket the contributions within a variable time frame of 30 to 90 days. Once our church reaches $100 in total donations, a check will be mailed. Signing Up is Free! You can easily sign up for free. When you to UMCmarket.org, you will click on the Get Started button. You will have the option to sign up with your Facebook account or enter your email and create a password. You will then be prompted to download the Easy Give Button and find our church. With these three simple steps, you are ready to shop and donate! Together Making a Difference! We hop you will sign up and try it out. The more of our members participate, the more donations we receive and can put towards our church mission! Some of the supporting companies are: Family Christian Store, Petsmart, Sears, Amazon, Starbucks, Expedia, Walgreens, Lowes, etc. There are thousands of companies to shop with. Mark 1: 1-3 1 The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 2 As it is written in the prophet Isaiah, See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way; 3 the voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight, Hello all, Well it seems that time keeps on flying by. Here we are starting December and our first week of the Advent season. The scripture above is just a taste of our scripture that will start off the second week of Advent on Sunday 12/07. So as we prepare for Christmas Eve and Christmas day please remember to take some time to remember the reason we celebrate Christmas, the birth of our savior Jesus Christ. As this Holiday season kicks into full gear we may get lost in the busyness of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year s Day. God wants us to take some time to be in worship, in prayer, and most of all thanksgiving for the gift that we celebrate with the birth of Jesus. We have lots of things coming up so please don t forget about the Holiday Tea on December 6 th, The Melodears on Friday December 19 th, Our Christmas celebration and movie time on Saturday December 20 th, and of course our candlelight service at 11:00 on Christmas Eve. This is a great time of year because of the time we get to worship and celebrate the season with our friends and family. I am thankful and honored to be your pastor and look forward to seeing what 2015 may bring. Please continue to be in prayer for all those that have lost loved ones this year because the Holiday Season can be a tough time for them. So as the month gets busier and busier please don t forget to take some time for yourself. I ask that you do me a favor and help to remind me to do the same thing. For me not only does December bring the Holiday season it also brings the end of another semester which means papers, reading, and tests. So let us all remember the birth of the Christ child and help our families to remember also. Grace and Peace, Pastor Jeff and Beth Page 2

United Methodist Men For 60 plus years, our dishwasher has served us well. We are sorry to report that it is no longer in service. In getting estimates on repair we have found that it will be more cost efficient to replace it than repair it. The cost for a new Hobart Dishwasher, new heating unit, all new plumbing and the installation will cost $12,000. Therefore we are asking for your financial support to help pay for the new machine. With our annual Chicken Noodle Dinner coming up plus all of the other functions at the church we need to get this done as soon as possible. December2014 Food Pantry December Focus For the last half of this year we have been collecting a focus item or items each month to help supply United Methodist Open Door and stock a pantry to help those who come to the church for help. Some items are in high demand at the food bank and you may not realize it. Because they aren t essentials, the staff doesn t publicly ask for them. A survey was taken on Reddit.com that asked volunteers what items people would be most appreciative of and this is a list of the top 10. For the month of December we will be colleting these items. 1. Spices. Think about it. People who rely on the food bank eat a lot of canned food, rice, oatmeal, white bread, etc. They love spices. Seasoned salt, cayenne pepper, chili powder, cumin, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, oregano, basil, etc. 2. Feminine Products. Can you imagine being worried about affording these? Pads, tampons, panty liners, etc. 3. Chocolate. People don t need it, but think about being in their shoes and how nice it would be to be given a chocolate bar or brownie mix along with essentials. 4. Toiletries. Grocery stores are great about donating surplus or unsold food, but they have no reason to donate toilet paper, tooth paste, soap, deodorant, shampoos, etc. Food stamps often don t cover these. 5. Canned meats and jerky. This isn t true of all food banks, but some struggle to give users enough protein. 6. Crackers and tortillas. They don t spoil and everybody likes them. 7. Baby toiletries. Diapers, baby wipes, baby formula, baby shampoo, baby soap, baby food, bottles, etc. 8. Soup packets. Sometimes you look at rice, beans, instant potatoes, and cans of vegetable and think, What do I make with this? Hearty soup is a complete meal. 9. Socks. From a former homeless person: Socks mean the world to you. They keep you warm, make you feel like you have something new, and just comfort you. 10. Canned fruit other than pineapple. Food banks get a lot of pineapple donated. Their clients love it when other kinds of fruit are available. Fellowship Dinner with the Homeless You are invited to share a meal with the homeless at a Fellowship Dinner on Sunday, December 14, following the morning worship service. Nancy Powell is providing some of the food but would like your help by bringing a covered dish or two to share. Also if you have any gently used warm clothing, coats, hats, gloves, etc. please bring them on that Sunday and they will be distributed to the homeless. For further information, please contact Nancy Powell or the church office. Page 6
