Following in the Footsteps of Jesus A 10 day Pilgrimage to Israel and Palestine Led by Bishop Michael Beasley & The Revd Kate Peacock 20-29 November, 2017 The Sea of Galilee from the Mount of Beatitudes - The official and preferred Pilgrimage partner for the Diocese of Jerusalem - Coopersale Hall Farm, Epping, CM16 7PE Tel: 01992 576 065 Email: info@lightline.org.uk Web:www.lightline.org.uk
The Holy Land Dear Pilgrims, We are delighted and excited to be offering this pilgrimage for people from Buntingford Deanery to the Holy Land. We hope and pray you will join us on this amazing journey of discovery. The pilgrimage has been planned to help people from across our churches grow in faith and unity, enabling us better together to Live God s Love. Our hope is that when we return home, we will tell our stories and inspire others with the Gospel story of life in all its abundance. To visit the sacred sites and churches of the Holy Land, to walk the ancient streets and to encounter the Sea of Galilee is like being taken from seeing the scriptures on the equivalent of an old black and white TV with fuzzy, intermittent reception, to suddenly reading the Bible in High Definition with surround sound and in glorious technicolor. To tread the roads that Jesus trod, to walk in the hills where he played as a child, to sail on the sea he calmed, to drink from the well of Jacob and to walk in his footsteps to Jerusalem and beyond is a truly remarkable experience after which life is never the same again. As well as worshipping and engaging with our faith in this fascinating and holy place, we shall travel also to see what life is like today; to see how this place matters to Christian, Jew and Muslim and to face the reality of division and occupation. We will visit where Jesus wept over Jerusalem and we may well join our tears with his. We will visit places where Christians are living out their faith in remarkable ways and we will see the rich variety of Christian worship from around the world. So, please do join us on this journey to the place where God became human, the empty tomb was discovered and where the world was changed forever. Do join us, and as pilgrims have done down the centuries, we will laugh, eat, walk, pray and grow together as we travel. + Michael Kate

It was a major first-century port and specialised in salted and smoked fish and exported its products all over the Mediterranean and southern Europe. The excavations to date have uneartherd sections of the port walls, a market, several homes shops and most importantly a first century synagogue that was probably destroyed by the Romans around 67CE. There is a high probability that
