The Order of Worship June 6, 2010 10:10 AM To all who are spiritually weary and seek rest; to all who mourn and long for comfort; to all who struggle and desire victory, to all who sin and need a Savior; to all who are strangers and want fellowship; to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness; and to whoever will come - this church opens wide her doors and offers her welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome Prelude *Call to Worship Rev. Carlton Wynne Minister: I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, I will recount all of Your wonderful deeds. All: I will be glad and exult in You. I will sing praise to Your name, O Lord, Most High. Minister: And those who know Your name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You. All: Sing praises to the Lord who sits enthroned on Zion! Tell among the peoples His marvelous deeds! Psalm 9:1-2, 10-11 *Hymns All Praise to Christ ENGELBERG All praise to Christ, our Lord and King divine, Yielding his glory in his love s design, That in our darkened hearts his grace might shine: Alleluia! Christ came to us in lowliness of thought; By him the outcast and the poor were sought, And by his death was our redemption bought: Alleluia! And so we see in God s great purpose how Christ has been raised above all creatures now, And at his name shall every nation bow: Alleluia! For All the Saints SINE NOMINE For all the saints, who from their labors rest, Who thee by faith before the world confessed, Thy name O Jesus be forever blessed, Alleluia, Alleluia. The golden evening brightens in the west; Soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest; Sweet is the calm of paradise the blest, Alleluia. Alleluia. But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day; The saints triumphant rise in bright array; The King of glory passes on his way, Alleluia. Alleluia.
*Prayer of Invocation and Adoration Rev. Ronnie Rowe Confession of Faith From Westminster Larger Catechism 59 and Confession of Faith 10.1 Minister: Who are made partakers of redemption through Christ? All: Redemption is effectually applied to all those for whom Christ purchased it when, by God s almighty power and grace, out of his free love (and not from anything in them moving him), the Holy Spirit calls them from the state of sin and death in which they are by nature to grace and salvation by Jesus Christ. In this calling, God takes away their hearts of stone and gives them hearts of flesh, renews their wills, and by his almighty power turns them to what is good and effectually draws them to Jesus Christ. Yet he does this in such a way that they come most freely, being made willing by his grace. Song of Praise My Shepherd Will Supply My Need MONORA My Shepherd will supply my need: Jehovah is His Name; In pastures fresh He makes me feed, beside the living stream. He brings my wandering spirit back when I forsake His ways, And leads me, for His mercy s sake, in paths of truth and grace. When I walk through the shades of death Thy presence is my stay; One word of Thy supporting breath drives all my fears away. Thy hand, in sight of all my foes, doth still my table spread; My cup with blessings overflows, Thine oil anoints my head. The sure provisions of my God attend me all my days; O may Thy house be my abode, and all my work be praise. There would I find a settled rest, while others go and come; No more a stranger, nor a guest, but like a child at home. Public Confession of Sin Minister: Let us confess our sins before our righteous and holy God. All: Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your steadfast love. My sin has been against You, although others have been hurt as well. It is against You that I have been angry and yet it is to You that I cry for mercy! Even with my best intentions, sin seems ever to creep in. Even with my firmest resolve, I keep on sinning. Wash me, that I might be clean, fresh, and new. Cleanse me, O Lord. In the name of Christ deliver me, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of Your deliverance. Private Confession of Sin Assurance of Pardon For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23-2-
Intercessory and Offertory Prayer Rev. Ronnie Rowe Musical Offering *Scripture Reading Psalm 107 Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble 3 and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. 4 Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; 5 hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. 6 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 7 He led them by a straight way till they reached a city to dwell in. 8 Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! 9 For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things. 10 Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and in irons, 11 for they had rebelled against the words of God, and spurned the counsel of the Most High. 12 So he bowed their hearts down with hard labor; they fell down, with none to help. 13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart. 15 Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! 16 For he shatters the doors of bronze and cuts in two the bars of iron. 17 Some were fools through their sinful ways, and because of their iniquities suffered affliction; 18 they loathed any kind of food, and they drew near to the gates of death. 19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 20 He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. 21 Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! 22 And let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of his deeds in songs of joy! 23 Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the great waters; 24 they saw the deeds of the LORD, his wondrous works in the deep. 25 For he commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea. 26 They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths; their courage melted away in their evil plight; 27 they reeled and staggered like drunken men and were at their wits' end. 28 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 29 He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. 30 Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven. 31 Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! 32 Let them extol him in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders. 42 The upright see it and are glad, and all wickedness shuts its mouth. 43 Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the LORD. *Hymn of Response We Praise You, O God, Our Redeemer, Creator KREMSER We praise you, O God, our Redeemer, Creator; In grateful devotion our tribute we bring. We lay it before you, we kneel and adore you; We bless your holy name, glad praises we sing. We worship you, God of our fathers, we bless you; Through trial and tempest our guide you have been. When perils over take us, you will not forsake us, And with your help, O Lord, our struggles we win. With voices united our praises we offer, And gladly our songs of thanksgiving we raise. With you, Lord, beside us, your strong arm will guide us. To you, our great Redeemer, forever be praise. Words of Institution Rev. Ronnie Rowe The Lord s Table All those who trust in Christ alone for their salvation, are baptized, and belong to a Bible believing church are invited to partake of the Lord s Supper together, feeding on the grace of God by faith. If you have not put your trust in Christ, please allow the elements to pass you by and take this opportunity to meditate on the meaning of the Gospel. A word to parents: Baptized children are invited to the table after they have made a profession of faith and been received as communing members by the Session of the church to which their parents belong. Please hold the bread, and we will partake together. Please drink the cup as you receive it. During the bread How Deep the Father s Love for Us TOWNEND How deep the Father's love for us, how vast beyond all measure, That He should give His only Son to make a wretch His treasure. How great the pain of searing loss, the Father turns His face away, As wounds which mar the chosen One, bring many sons to glory. Behold the Man upon a cross, my sin upon His shoulders, Ashamed I hear my mocking voice, call out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held Him there until it was accomplished, His dying breath has brought me life; I know that it is finished. I will not boast in anything, no gifts, no power, no wisdom, But I will boast in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer. But this I know with all my heart, His wounds have paid my ransom. Prayer of Thanksgiving During the cup Instrumental - 4-
*Closing Hymn Ye Servants of God, Your Master Proclaim LYONS *Benediction Ye servants of God, your Master proclaim, And publish abroad His wonderful Name; The Name all victorious of Jesus extol, His kingdom is glorious and rules over all. God ruleth on high, almighty to save, And still He is nigh, His presence we have; The great congregation His triumph shall sing, Ascribing salvation to Jesus, our King. Then let us adore and give Him His right, All glory and power, all wisdom and might; All honor and blessing with angels above, And thanks never ceasing and infinite love. Minister: May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
