St. Paul s News September 2016 becoming involved in one of our many options for spiritual growth and development. For our children and youth, we have Sunday School From the Pastor s Pen: St. Paul s, As I write this it seems as though everywhere I look there are signs of fall s arrival. We finally got some rain in the past week, I m starting to hear the sounds of marching band practice while at church, and my facebook is abuzz with people sharing back to school pictures. Here at church we are also making the transition from summer to fall. We had a great summer highlighted by a very fun and successful Vacation Bible School, youth attending Youth Annual Conference at Lakeside and Camp Wanake, and a meaningful combined outdoor worship service with our brothers and sisters at First Presbyterian. Now we turn our attention to blessing backpacks and Rally Day and our fall schedule. As September begins I hope that you consider starting September 4 th after worship, youth club will begin in October, and youth fellowship will be starting up again as well. Pay attention to announcements for how you and your children can be involved in these groups. For adults, we will also be starting Sunday School. We will be using a new curriculum this year and we will begin with a six-week study of the book of Acts. No preparation is required so I encourage you to give Sunday School a try even if it has been awhile since you have joined us or you will be joining us for the first time. In addition, there will be a weeknight study for adults meeting on Wednesday s from 7:00pm-8:00pm at the church. This six-week study will begin August 31 st and is called Five Marks of a Methodist. If you have ever wanted to know more about what it means to be a United Methodist this study is for you. We will be discussing how Methodists love God, rejoice in God, give thanks, pray 1

always, and love others. I hope you will join us on Wednesday evenings! Finally as we begin fall I urge you to join with me in prayer for our church, our community, and our world. Especially keep in prayer our students as they return to school, our new and returning college students, and our teachers, staff, and administrators at our local No September Birthdays If you are over 80 and would like your birthday listed, contact the church office schools and universities. We appreciate the many items brought in and know they will help area students do their best this school season! More than 160 items were donated for this Missions Committee project. If you would like to donate flowers for the altar any time during the year, please call the church office at (419)447-1743. The table favor crafters will meet on Tuesday, September 13 at 1:15 pm for our Fall Craft Session. We will be in the secretary s office. If time allows, we will complete projects for three months. August 25th Administrative Council Meeting Highlights Financial: June s income was slight and the extra surplus from the Sharing Kitchen has been used up at this point. July Spending is on budget and we are doing well there. Utilities are not too bad considering the use of air conditioning due to the heat. We are looking at about a 4000.00 deficit for the year which is about the same as last year. Things are being paid on time and expenses are consistent with other years for Sunday school, VBS etc. Pastors Report: Charge Conference is upon us and SPRC will be meeting with the DS on September 25 th. November 12 th is the date for Charge Conference and it is in Willard this year. Other Business: The committee discussed the Surveys taken by the congregation and began to look at what areas we want to work on for the coming year. Goals need to be set before Charge Conference. Education: Sunday the 28 th is Rally Day everything is well planned and we are ready. Things are going well and Hillary Chapman has agreed to do the youth Sunday school class which consists of grades 7-12. Our other teachers remain the same and Pastor Hannah is starting a new bible study starting 8-31-16. Trustees: There are a number of ongoing projects such as the gutters and roof over Education wing which needs looked at, and another coating put on. The estimated life of the main roof is 7-10 years depending on how many more tiles come down. We have estimates on recoating, restoring, and replacing the roof. There are also issues with pigeons in the bell tower. Maintenance has been done on fire extinguishers, boilers, elevator and air conditioners this past month. Newsletter deadline for the October Newsletter is September 16, 2016. Please email to secretary@tiffinstpauls.org Finance: We do not have a chair for this committee yet, looking for a willing volunteer. 5
