WORSHIP OF OUR LORD Decemr 9, 2018 Season of Advent He came what we are that He might make us what He is. Athanasius NonChristians seem to think that the Incarnation implies some particular merit or excellence in humanity. But of course it implies just the reverse: a particular demerit and depravity. No creature that deserved Redemption would need to redeemed. They that are le need not the physician. Christ died men precisely cause men are not worth dying ; to make them worth it. C.S. Advent Candle Lighting Cornerstone Kids The season of Advent, a season of waiting, is designed to cultivate our awareness of God s actions past, present, and future. In Advent we hear prophecies of the Messiah s coming as addressed to us people wait the second coming. In Advent we heighten our anticipation the ultimate fulfillment of Old Testament promises, when the wolf will lie down with the lamb, death will swowed up, and every tear will wiped away. In this way, Advent highlights us the larger story of God s redemptive plan. The lighting of Advent candles dramaticy depicts the growing expectation we have the coming of Christ, the light of the world. The main symbolism portrayed by the wreath is the growing intensity of light as the candle lighting includes an additional candle each worship day and as anticipation builds the celebration of Chris s second coming. This year we will lighting the hope, peace, love, joy, and Christ candle. Peace Candle Jesus said, I am the light of the world; the one follows me will not walk in darkness but have the light of life. We light these candles as a sign of the coming light of Christ. Isaiah 9:67 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government sh upon his shoulder, and his name sh ced Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time th and evermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this. John 1:913 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to did receive him, lieved in his name, he gave the right to come children of God, were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. Come, Lord Jesus, our light and our salvation. Let us walk in the light of the Lord. Children s Choir Special Music It s Christmas

WE ACKNOWLEDGE OUR SIN C To Confession John 1:913 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to did receive him, lieved in his name, he gave the right to come children of God, were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. Corporate Confession of Sin Lord, you are worthy to magnified through our rejoicing in you. Yet, too often our praise is muted. We refuse to tell out your greatness. Lord, you rememr our humble condition and you bless us. Yet, too often we doubt your promises and mock your provision. Lord, you are merciful, kind, and giving! Yet, too often we live in fear not trusting in your grace! Lord, you bring down the proud. You are impartial in your judgments. Yet, too often we fail to humble ourselves e you. Lord, you are compassionate and generous. Yet, too often we withhold your good from those in need. Lord, you are everfaithful to your people. Hear now our private prayers of confession. [Take a few moments silent confession] Lord, we magnify you in your love, mercy and grace! AND WE ARE GIVEN A WORD OF ASSURANCE *Words of Assurance John 3:1618 God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that ever lieves in him should not perish but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might saved through him.

Whoever lieves in the Son is not condemned, but the one does not lieve is condemned already. We lieve and are not condemned! We lieve and have eternal life in the Son, Jesus! *Song of Assurance Come Behold The Wondrous Mystery Come hold the wondrous myst'ry In the dawning of the King He the theme of heaven's praises Rod in frail humanity In our longing in our darkness Now the light of life has come Look to Christ condescended Took on flesh to ransom us Come hold the wondrous myst'ry He the perfect Son of Man In His living in His suff'ring Never trace nor stain of sin See the true and tter Adam Come to save the hellbound man Christ the great and sure fulfillment Of the law in Him we stand Come hold the wondrous myst'ry Christ the Lord upon the tree In the stead of ruined sinners Hangs the Lamb in victory See the price of our redemption See the Father's plan unfold Bringing many sons to glory Grace unmeasured love untold Come hold the wondrous myst'ry Slain by death the God of life But no grave could e'er restrain Him Praise the Lord He is alive What a etaste of deliv'rance How unwavering our hope Christ in power resurrected As we will when He comes What a etaste of deliv'rance How unwavering our hope Christ in power resurrected As we will when He comes Matt Boswell 2012 Dayspring Music

WE RECEIVE THE GOOD NEWS FROM GOD S WORD *Scripture Reading Luke 1:3956 (page 856 in the pew Bibles) 39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40 where she entered Zechariah s home and greeted Elizath. 41 When Elizath heard Mary s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizath was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will ar! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped joy. 45 Blessed is she has lieved that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her! 46 And Mary said: My soul glorifies the Lord 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 he has en mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on generations will c me blessed, 49 the Mighty One has done great things me holy is his name. 50 His mercy extends to those fear him, from generation to generation. 51 He has permed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those are proud in their inmost thoughts. 52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. 53 He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, rememring to merciful 55 to Abraham and his descendants ever, just as he promised our ancestors. 56 Mary stayed with Elizath about three months and then returned home. This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks to God
