THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The Lord is with us. Amen! On behalf of Fr. Joseph, Fr. Arthur, Deacon Bill and the Collaborative Team, thank you for your many kind and thoughtful Christmas cards and gifts. These expressions of your love, gratitude and appreciation have blessed us so much. I like to joke and say the rectory is like a mini Candy Land given the amounts of sweets that we have received. Thank you so much! During these days of the Christmas Season, as we recall the great events of our salvation, one prayer that can be offered each day is the Angelus. The Angelus is based on Sacred Scripture and has been prayed for centuries, honoring the Annunciation and Nativity of our Lord. You may recall the famous 19th century painting by Jean-Francois Millet of a couple in the fields at dusk, with heads bowed in prayer. This painting shows them taking a moment to pray the Angelus, right in the midst of their labors. Traditionally people have prayed this prayer three times per day (6am, 12noon, 6pm), as a way to recollect themselves and sanctify the day, at its beginning, middle and end. It can be prayed by yourself or with another person. The L represents the Leader and the R represents the Responder. May this prayer help keep the Spirit of Christmas alive in our hearts throughout the year. The Angelus L. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary. R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. L. Behold the handmaid of the Lord. R. Be it done unto me according to Thy word. Hail Mary... L. And the Word was made Flesh. R. And dwelt among us. Hail Mary... L. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen. Your brother in Christ, Fr. Matt+ P.S. We wish you a Happy, Holy and Blessed New Year+ Ministry Help: Ministry of Usher: The role of being an usher is an important part of the Saturday/Sunday Mass experience at Saint Joseph s. We are in need of volunteers who would be willing to greet and welcome parishioners and guests, and assist with the offertory collection. Ideally this would be a monthly rotation and you would be able to serve at the Mass you regularly attend. If you are interested, there is a sign up sheet at the rear of the church, or your could contact the parish offices. Thank you for your consideration. Transformed in Love Marriage Prep Transformed in Love for engaged couples is the Archdiocesan program for marriage preparation. For upcoming 2018 dates, locations, and registration information, visit bostoncatholic.org/familylife or contact Liz Cotrupi at ecotrupi@rcab.org. Vocation to the Priesthood Please pray for vocations; we are in need of a few good men! I am confident that the Lord is raising up men in this hour to heroically offer their lives in service of Jesus Christ. If you are interested in learning more about the priesthood, have questions, or know of someone who is thinking about it, please contact Fr. Matt at the rectory or email: Fr.MattinQuincy@gmail.com.
DECEMBER 30, 2018 Now more than ever, our priests, seminarians and those contemplating the call to serve Our Lord need our prayers. Here a St Joseph Parish we have a way for you to do your part to support these men who have proven to be our good shepherds and those in training or contemplating the call to be a good shepherd. The vocation crucifix is available to be signed out by individuals or families for one week. Take it home and pray the vocation prayer daily. The sign up sheet is in the entrance of the church. The process is easy. Choose your week, sign the sheet. When your week arrives pick up the crucifix in the sacristy when you come to mass. Please return the crucifix to the sacristy before the 4 pm mass on Saturday so it will be available for the next person. The Vocation Crucifix has been signed out by the following parishioner (s) for the weeks of: Dec. 30 Mark M. Wilson Jan. 5 Thinking About Becoming Catholic? Do you know of anyone, maybe yourself, who may be interested in becoming a Catholic? The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is designed for non-catholics who may be interested in learning more about the Catholic faith and perhaps becoming a Catholic, by preparing for and receiving the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Adults who were baptized as Roman Catholics, but did not receive further catechetical formation, and consequently did not receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist are also candidates for this program. We are happy to say that we already have four adults who have registered! For more information, contact Fr. Matt (617-773-1021) ST. JOSEPH FOOD PANTRY: NEW HOURS: The pantry is open on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 7:30PM for our neighbors in need (located in rectory conference room). Questions: please call Rich Griffin at 781-363-3655 EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS Do you practice good stewardship with your family? Stewardship is about more than offerings to a church or charity. It is about continually giving of ourselves in a way that gives glory to God. Sharing our gifts with those in our immediate family honors God and is evidence of your gratitude for these people in your life. How can we effectively accomplish this? One way is to reflect on how the 6 characteristics of an Everyday Steward are present in our family relationships. Are we mindful when we are with our family members? Do we focus on them and their needs rather than our phone or TV? Do we hold up our family in prayer? Their concerns should be our concerns. Do we find ways to show how grateful we are for having them in our lives? When we find ourselves lacking in gratitude, we should reflect on what life would be like without them. Do we help one another without being asked because we have a gracious heart? It is easy to take for granted those we see all the time. Hospitality is not just for the stranger or guest. Are we committed to a life of stewardship that not only serves as a good example, but also helps our relatives thrive? Using our gifts without wisdom might mean we have little to give to those we love. Finally, do we hold each other accountable for our decisions and shortcomings? We are on the journey of life together, and no one exists in the Body of Christ alone. Stewardship is about the entirety of our lives. Our faith life is not reserved to Mass on a Sunday. It all begins and ends with those we love. --Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS
