Sacramental Preparation Baptism: All Baptisms are celebrated on the first Sunday of the month at 9:45 AM. The preparation process should begin at least three months before the planned date of the Baptism. A Baptism Preparation Class is required for parents (godparents may attend if they wish). This class is offered on the fourth Sunday of each month at 9:45 AM. Please call the parish office to register. The date of the baptism is scheduled after attending the class. Parish membership and active worship is required for two months prior to preparation. Haven t Received Your Sacrament on Schedule? Families of children in grades three and up who have been baptized but have not yet received any formal religious education, as well as those who have not been baptized, should contact the Parish Office for information on how to proceed. Initiation of Adults and Older Children: This is an extended formation process for unbaptized or uncatechized adults or baptized Christians of other faith traditions who wish to become members of the Catholic Church, as well as for unbaptized or uncatechized school-aged children. Please contact the parish office for more information. Initiation is celebrated at the Easter Vigil after a formation period of one or two years. Adult Confirmation: This is a program for persons over the age of 18 who have received the Sacraments of Baptism and First Eucharist, but who never completed their initiation with the Sacrament of Confirmation. The program is a 10-12 week program, with Confirmation being celebrated on the Solemnity of Pentecost. Please call the parish office for more details. Matrimony: Couples wishing to marry in Good Shepherd Parish are required to make initial arrangements at least one year in advance. Four sessions with the priest or deacon, as well as Pre-Cana or Engaged Encounter take place during this year. Parish registration and active worship for at least two months are required before a date may be scheduled. Anointing of the Sick: Anyone who is seriously ill or unable to come to church for a length of time should contact the parish office to arrange for the Anointing of the Sick. Eucharistic Ministers bring Holy Communion to homebound parishioners every Sunday, and one of the priests will visit on the First Friday of each month. Please call the parish office to make arrangements. The Diocese of Metuchen provides Catholic priests to serve at all local hospitals. Holy Orders: If you are interested in learning more about the priesthood or religious life, contact the Vocations Office of the Diocese of Metuchen at 732-562-1990, ext. 1700 or by email at vocations@diometuchen.org or visit www.diometuchen.org/vocations. Parish Registration: We welcome you to the Good Shepherd Parish Community! Please register at the Parish Office as soon as you are able to do so, and the staff will be more than happy to inform you about our parish and the opportunities we offer. Parish registration is required for religious education, celebration of all Sacraments and certification as a sponsor for Baptism and Confirmation. Regular Sunday worship with us indicates a practicing Catholic, not just parish registration. An assurance of family practice and raising children in the faith they seek is necessary for the sacraments of initiation and certification of sponsorship. Please notify the parish office of any changes in phone number, address, e-mail address or when leaving the parish. 2 GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH FINANCIAL CORNER Collection Report 7/22/18 Weekly $3,900.00 Restoration & Repairs $2,421.00 Monthly Operating Income & Expense MAY 2018 Collection Income $ 25,281.00 Other Income $ 17,806.00 Total Income $ 43,087.00 Expenses $ 41,589.00 Month's Income/(Deficit) $ $1,498.00 Year-to-Date (Jul '17 - May 18) Income/(Deficit)* $ (17,915.00) Outstanding Diocesan Debt $ 46,595.00 Summer Envelopes We sincerely thank our parishioners who mail or deliver their weekly envelopes to the parish office while they are out-oftown on vacation this summer. Thanks to the wonders of the Internet, I'm able to write my weekly letter for the bulletin after spending a restful Sunday on the beach in Maui, Hawaii! This is the first time since the year 2000 that I've had more than two consecutive Sundays off - and last year I only had one weekend off all year! My vacation has been so far quite enjoyable - yet I know that later this week it'll be over and I'll be back in the parish with PLENTY to do! One thing that I'd like to share is how great it's been this past week to see the number of people who join us for daily Mass on the cruise that I'm on - we average about 25-30 people every day, from all over the country. In addition to my friend Fr. Steve Carey from the Archdiocese of Newark who I'm traveling with, there's also another priest from Ireland on this cruise who has joined us in concelebrating daily and Sunday Mass. And I've heard from a number of you (via Facebook) that things in the parish are going well. So I'm happy for that. We get back into San Francisco this Tuesday morning, and then Fr. Steve and I will spend a few days in San Francisco before heading home this Friday. I'll be back in the rectory later this Friday evening. So I knew I'd have a few things to say, so here goes: Our Parish Picnic Is Next Sunday! Have you signed up yet? We always have a good day, and I hope lots of you will be there. The food is always good, and it's a nice day for all. So if you haven't signed up yet to attend - and we need help to set up and clean up afterwards - please call the Parish Office early this week! This coming week, our secretary Maria Arcelay will be away on a well deserved vacation. Our wonderful volunteers will be manning the Office this week while Maria is away, so thank you for your understanding! Both of us will be back on Monday, August 6th. A whole lot will be happening once I get back to the parish, on a lot of different levels...so stay tuned! Have a great week, Fr. Mike 3 For the month of July pray for our brave soldiers & their families, those in nursing homes, and the sick and homebound of our Parish family, especially: Carlos Bendrell, Tom Bromirski, Marie Burke, Rose Celecki, Andrea Costantino, Noah Dahlberg, Carolyn Duane, Pat Dunn, Chuck F., Tommy Fitzpatrick, Mike Gaffney, Carol George, Richard Hajzer, Tommy Jones, Arleen Kopin, Judy Liik, Megan Ortega, Carol Magyar, JoAnn Magyar, Raymond Magyar, Maryanne Mateuszczyk, Connie & Vince Montuoro, Fr. With respect to personal privacy only requests made by immediate family members will be taken. If you would like to add or continue to keep a name on our list: call the parish office at 732-826-4859 or email Goodshepherd20@verizon.net. Please keep in mind that we pray for all the sick every day in the general intercessions of the Mass.

Intercessory Prayer Intercessory prayer is the act of praying on behalf of others. All Christians are called to be Intercessory. All Christians have the Holy Spirit in their hearts and, just as Christ intercedes for us in accordance with God s will (Romans 8:26-27), we are to intercede for one another. Nothing is too small to request from our Lord, Jesus. Nothing is insignificant to him. At the Good Shepherd Parish our Children have embarked on a mission of Intercessory Prayer by praying nightly at 9:00 pm. We have been conducting classes on Intercessory prayers so that our youth are prepared to be Intercessors. Weekly they are presented with the prayer requests from parishioners. We pray and then they go forth with their mission work. Some of the benefits of the Intercessory Prayers: It increases God s Protection. It strengthens us to do what God is calling us to do. It removes feelings of aloneness. It builds our relationship with God and increases our faith. If you wish to join or be added to the prayer list, please contact Mrs. Mildred Padilla-Morales at 732-738-3909. 5 Collect-A- Million Club The Perth Amboy Catholic Schools have teamed up with the Ronald McDonald House of New Brunswick on the Pop Tab Collect-A-Million Club. The tabs provide a tremendous source of charitable revenue for the Ronald McDonald House. The aluminum from pop tab rings is taken to the local recycling station where it is weighed and cashed in by the pound. The money netted is used to assist the House with operational expenses such as household supplies and utilities as well as to waive the fee for those families in need of financial support. We hope we can count on your support!! Please place your collected tabs in the receptacle in the back of the church. Thank you for your part in helping families whose children require care at an area hospital. This is an ongoing collection.

If you are unable to access, please contact your parish secretary or the Family Life Office at 732-243-4582, or amatos@diometuchen.org. Even though no fee is required, in the past many Jubilarian couples have given a donation of gratitude to the Church in memory of this special occasion. Donations of Gratitude can be made online or calling 732.243.4582, Monday thru Friday, during business hours. Registration will close on W, O 3 rd, 2018. 2018 Bishop s Annual Appeal Lighting a Fire in the Heart of Our World Thanks to the dedication of our faithful parishioners, pastors and parish appeal coordinators, we exceeded our Bishop s Annual Appeal goal for the second year in a row with pledges of over $7.8 million from nearly 26,000 households. Achieving our $7.2 million goal for the 2018 Appeal allowed us to distribute funds to the ministries as projected. Your extraordinary generosity enables us to continue advancing our mission. Money raised over goal will help cover tuition costs for 6 more seminarians than originally budgeted for, address the needs of a growing number of retired clergy, and enhance our communication strategy. Thank you for also providing for these urgent needs. As you can imagine, the needs are great! It s Not Too Late to Give: Donations are still being gratefully accepted for the 2018 Bishop s Annual Appeal. Money raised over goal will help provide for more urgent needs. A parish receives 50% of the amount collected over the parish goal. Parish rebates can be earned through October 2018, so there is still time to fulfill your pledge. To see how Appeal funds are being allocated or to make a gift, go to https://diometuchen.org/baa. Your wonderful response is a reflection of our commitment as a diocesan family to bring Christ s message of hope and love to everyone we meet. Together we are Lighting a Fire in the Heart of Our World. 7 St. Bernadette Church in Parlin is proud to welcome back The Garden State Jazz Orchestra. Mark your calendars for this wonderful celebration of music! fñüxtw Çz à{x jéüw come away by yourselves to a lonely place and rest awhile. MARK 6:31 Do you spend time, every day, alone and in silence listening to how God is calling you? If not, you are missing out on a wonderful opportunity to develop a more personal relationship with Him. Unless we talk and more importantly, listen to God every day, how else will we know how He is calling us? Consider making a retreat this year, spend some alone time with God. Good Shepherd Parish Library Our parish lending library has a collection of literature and resources for all ages. These items focus on encouraging, supporting and enriching the spiritual and intellectual growth of our parishioners. Take time before or after Mass to visit and browse our collection of books and other media items to borrow. If you currently have books or videos out, we remind you to return them to church as soon as you are done with them so others can enjoy them..note: A large majority of our children and teen/young adult materials have been out for a long time. Purgatorial Mass Society If you would like to enroll a loved one for 2018, please call Maria at the Parish Office. The donation is $25.00 per enrollment. This includes a large attractive card for you to give to the family when a loved one passes away. New enrollments will be listed in the bulletin once a month. At every First Friday Morning Mass the names of those enrolled for that month will be placed on the Altar and will remain there for one year. Please note the names will not be read during Mass.
