(last updated Feb 16, 016) St. Boniface is committed to be of service to God s people throughout the world. Since 005, through the Group Cares Mission program, the youth group has traveled to needy communities worldwide, from Waterloo, Iowa, to Honduras. Locally, several dozen parishioners are involved with the Family Promise program which shelters and feeds homeless families for a week in various local churches. St. Boniface hosts this program four times per year. Volunteers set up overnight sleeping arrangements, prepare and serve dinner and breakfast and provide a bag lunch. In 015 St. Boniface hosted ten families, including 4 children. In addition, there are many other local activity initiatives, such as Resurrection House (a day center for the homeless). The Grants Committee has awarded over 100 grants (mostly to local groups) during the past few years. A group supports Episcopal Relief and Development and other groups are involved in recycling efforts and in Eco-Stewardship. There is also an active Peace & Justice Committee. Food donations are collected weekly at the Sunday services for All Faiths Food Bank. How are your preparing yourselves for the Church of the future? During the past few years we have had a number of parish wide fora in which we have discussed the future of our parish. These have helped the parish leadership to see the direction that the parish wants to take. One consensus has been to expand our outreach to meet more of the pressing needs in the community. Another has been to ascertain how we can develop a community youth ministry that would cater not only to youth who would be part of the parish, but also would serve as a ministry to the wider community. leadership, listening, loving, spiritual guide.

(last updated Feb 16, 016) Liturgical style and practice at St. Boniface generally follows Rite Two in the Book of Common Prayer. We have a strong musical heritage, with excellent organ and choir at the 10:00 service on Sunday, which also uses Taize chant during communion. Hymns and organ are also part of our 8:00 Sunday service. Many times per year the handbell choir performs during the service. The 10:00 service is available in real time (and recorded) on the web for those who cannot attend in person. The Holy Eucharist is also celebrated, together with a Healing Service, on Thursday mornings. There is a service at 5:30 on Wednesdays, which is usually evening prayer, but with the Holy Eucharist celebrated the first Wednesday evening of the month from October to May. From October to May that service precedes a weekly dinner/education program, otherwise a pot-luck. There is also a program centered on the use of the Labyrinth located on our campus. How do you practice incorporating others in ministry? See the response to Question one. In addition, on the average Sunday there will be about three persons acting as Eucharistic Visitors who take Communion to shut ins. On any given Sunday, more than twenty lay persons will act as acolytes, lay readers, vergers and/or chalice bearers as well as ushers, greeters and alter guild. Many of the education programs described in answer to question four are led by lay persons. There is also an active EFM group as well as the Men of Boniface who meet weekly for Bible Study. St. Boniface is blessed with a very large number of retired clergy, many of whom are active in parish activities and who frequently preach or celebrate the Eucharist. Often there is a Minute for Ministry presentation at Sunday services where the leader of a lay group gives a short presentation or update. As a worshipping community, how do you care for your spiritual, emotional and physical well-being? About a year ago several parishioners completed their training as Stephen Ministers, who walk beside those experiencing times of crisis or turmoil. We also have a long-standing Healing Mission, located in a separate space, which serves as a conduit for God s spiritual, emotional and physical peace and is open to the general community as well as the parish. Twice a month there are healing prayers at a side chapel during/after Communion. The clergy are supplemented by a Pastoral Care Team whose members, or the clergy, regularly visit parishioners who are homebound or hospitalized, as well as a Prayer Group for intercessory prayers, including those requested via a book located in the narthex. There is a healing service in connection with the weekly Thursday Eucharist. In addition, we have a Faith Community Nurse. There are many educational programs at St. Boniface. On any given Sunday there are likely to be either two or three separate study groups, led either by lay persons or clergy. Other educational programs are also provided, including our Wednesday evening program from October to May in connection with a dinner. There is also a foyers program where small groups of parishioners have dinner and fellowship together.

(last updated Feb 16, 016) How do you engage in pastoral care for those beyond your worshipping community? In addition to the outreach described in answer to question one, please see the description of the Healing Mission described in answer to question four, which is open to, and primarily availed of by, persons outside the parish. See also the pre-school and the concert series each described in the answer to question 5. When you are in Siesta Key, the wider Church beats a path to your door! Our parish includes those who have been active as vestry members, wardens, in diocesan affairs or on committees of the Episcopal Church (including the Executive Council). Our Vestry and search Committee have been faithful and active contributors to the Fresh Start program of the Diocese. In the community, the parish operates a pre-school, in which almost all of the students enrolled are not from parish families. We have an extensive concert series, mostly on Sunday evenings, which attracts large numbers of persons unaffiliated with the parish. In light of the geographic location of St. Boniface, there is a constant flow of persons (mostly retired or semi-retired and many non-episcopalians) newly moved to Sarasota who visit looking for a church home. A very important part of our ministry is to welcome such persons. The Stephen Ministry described in answer to question four. Please contact the Rev. Andi Taylor, our Associate Rector, at 941-349-5616, ext.313.

(last updated Feb 16, 016) What is your practice of stewardship and how does it shape the life of your worshipping community? Stewardship is a continuing process of properly using God s gifts of time, talent and money. Although the money part is always a challenge, the time and talent are well illustrated by the answers to questions one, three, four and five. While transitions almost always bring conflict to the foreground, the aftermath of a long pastorate and some short-term financial challenges brought some conflict our way that required an appeal beyond the parish walls. With the help of consultants, interim clergy, and the Bishop, we have addressed our major issues and we continue to find ways to strengthen our spiritual resolve as God s Family. What is your experience leading/addressing change in the church? When has it gone well? When has it gone poorly? And what did you learn? St. Boniface has been in transition for over two years. This has given us a wealth of experience in addressing change at the local level. New styles of leadership have come to us by way of two interim priests and their respective leadership styles. Consistently, the lay leadership of St. Boniface has had to adapt to these new realities and has had to model readiness for change. Beyond the parish, we see that the major change issues for the Episcopal Church in recent years have revolved around full inclusion in the life of the Church. This has not been a major problem in our parish, since we have long had LGBT persons in leadership roles. Although there is not unanimity on these issues, those who disagree with the Church s recent actions nevertheless recognize God s presence in all persons.
