PAGE 2 A Note from Pastor Nicole: Happy May, OBC Family Let s hope that the snow and cold are gone to stay, and that we can start enjoying those May flowers springing up from April showers! As April turns into May, many church families are returning from being out of town for the winter. We welcome them home and look forward to seeing them in worship again! I wanted to wait until most of our church family could be together again before I celebrated two very special events with you: my ordination, and my installation as pastor of. A date has not yet been set for the installation, but that will be decided once the business of ordination has passed! My ordination will be at Immanuel Baptist Church (815 Park Ave, Rochester, NY) on May 5 at 12pm. Even though the service is at Immanuel (because they are my church of membership and have been sponsoring me for ordination), OBC will play a very important role. The OBC choir will be singing an anthem during the service and providing the refreshments at the reception after. I would be honored if you would join me for this very special day! I won t just be receiving a certificate from the American Baptist Churches of the Rochester Genesee Region stating I m now a Reverend. I won t just be gifted a preaching gown or custom made pastor s stole. There s so much more to an ordination than that. I ll be the blessed recipient of a commission from you (and two other congregations) a commission to go out and preach God s Word, and do the Lord s will. Likewise, I pray the Holy Spirit will be among us as well, bestowing God s blessing upon me. What an honor it is to be trusted with such a huge, important task. I m looking forward to sharing this day with you, and many more days to come as your Rev. PAGE 8 KidzMin Moment During the month of April our Children s Sunday School lessons revolved around the post-easter revelations of Christ, who did Christ appear to, when, and why at those specific moments was his divine appearance significant to those he was appearing to. Beginning with the women at the tomb, Cleopas and his companion On the Road to Emmaus and finishing up with Doubting Thomas and the story of The Great Commission at Pentecost. A particularly exciting lesson this month found us learning the Scientific Method in order to practice our deduction skills and learn about what it truly means to believe without seeing. This Month The Spotlight shines on Mika Mallery! Although Mika is new to our Kidzmin program at OBC she is never short of enthusiasm for new topics and projects! She consistently volunteers to share during Children s Time, Bring in the Holy Spirit for worship as an Acolyte, or bring her A-game at Kid s Faith Discovery. Her pottery project for our Book of Job Study was incredibly creative and her imagination brings so much to our ministry here! Welcome Mika and great job being a Disciple-in-training during the month of April! Wednesday Night Faith Discovery In May we begin a brand new study unit!! The Tower of Babel. Which have built and secured in the Children s Resource room for the remainder of our study. On May 2nd we kicked off the study with a lesson on Humility and we can t wait to continue the month dissecting this shorter story from the Book of Genesis.
