Robert Garrison Barber Those of you who attend the Easter Vigil will remember that last year we returned the beginning of the Mass, the Service of Light (normally begun in the vestibule), to the newly redone prayer garden. Due to the overwhelming positive feedback and beauty of the ritual, we will once again direct all in attendance to the prayer garden for this brief portion of the service, where candles will be distributed and the Easter Fire will be kindled. The Paschal Candle will be lit from the fire and we will process solemnly up the ramp into the darkened church, which will be illuminated as the Light of Christ enters. We ask all in attendance to please be in the prayer garden promptly at 7:30 p.m. Please note: those with a disability that would make walking up the ramp genuinely difficult will be escorted into the church by an usher. In the case of inclement weather, the Service of Light will begin in the vestibule, as in previous years, with all in their seats. Here we go! Our spring clothing drive will run from Saturday, April 27, until Wednesday, May 8. Please remember, our dropoff location is the garage (right side) in the rectory parking lot. The door will be open Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. On Saturday, it will be open from 3 5 p.m., and on Sunday, from 7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. All items must be securely tied in plastic bags. We can accept clothes, linens, stuffed animals, handbags, belts, shoes, household items, toys, books, DVDs and small appliances (NO microwaves or TVs). For questions, please call Angel at 732-501-5133 (Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.) All proceeds benefit Saint Mary Church. Chrism Mass This Monday, April 15, at 4 p.m. This Monday, April 15, Bishop James F. Checchio will celebrate the Chrism Mass with the priests of the Diocese. At this Mass, the Bishop will bless the Holy Oils which each parish receives for the rites of anointing. Also at the Mass, all priests make a Renewal of Commitment to Priestly Service, recommitting themselves to their Bishop and to their ministry to God and His People; the Bishop and all Priests then ask the people for a pledge of their prayerful support. All are strongly encouraged to join in this ancient, grace-filled Chrism Mass at the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi in Metuchen.
