Reflections: Thank You! As we celebrate Veteran s Day, we remember in a special way all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country. It is through their sacrifice, and the service of many other men and women, that we enjoy the blessings of freedom. Since the Revolutionary War, over 39 million Americans have served in the armed forces with over 1 million having sacrificed their lives. We owe a debt of gratitude for those who have gone before us to protect our homes, loved ones and nation. Many American veterans return home after their deployments suffering from their wartime experiences. Some suffer from substance abuse, others from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and still others suffer from depression and anxiety. Martin Eichelman, a World War II veteran of the Pacific Theater, said of those returning from war, The fact is it brings back the memory of all people that you were associated with that are gone It s a very difficult thing to come back like these fellas are coming back maimed and damaged with the brain and have a difficult time finding the treatment that they need or the help that they need. Truly, we must pray for these men and women and their families as they seek treatment and healing. The families of veterans also sacrifice a great deal for our nation, but often times go unheralded. Staff Sergeant Joseph Lemay said of his wife and family, I pray for my family. For the last five years my wife has been basically a single mom trying to raise three teenagers. He missed birthday parties, basketball games, anniversaries and family dinners. Yet through it all his wife and family were always there to support him. When I get a letter in the mail that says, We re all praying for you, that means something. There are certain things that happen to you over there where you realize that prayer is helping. I see a lot of families crumble under the stress of this, and the fact that mine hasn t is due to prayer, said Lemay. Amen. I invite you this Veteran s Day to pray for our service members and their families. Keep them close to your hearts as they help us to transition from a world of war to a world of peace. Almighty and Eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers and their families as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord Amen. God Bless, Deacon Chris Prayer for Those in the Service Almighty God, we stand before you asking for your divine mercy and protection. Embrace with Your invincible armor our loved ones in all branches of the service. Give them courage and strength against all enemies both spiritual and physical and hasten their safe journey back to their homes and families. Amen Please remember the following service personnel in your Prayers as they serve and protect our country: Pvt. Tyler Finnigan, US Army, Ft. Devens, MA L.Cpl. Aaron Marshall, Okinawa, Eric Hoyt, Machinist 1st Class, USS George H.W. Bush Aircraft Carrier, U.S. Army, L.Cpl. Troy Monteville, Afghanistan, LTJG David Mobed, US Navy, USS Mason
