THE GIDEON REMNANT A message for the now generation who truly believe By Gerry Watts In these final hours of the last days, the Holy Spirit of God is effecting a virtually unrecognised revolution within the Body of Christ, which is also being reflected within various fields of study in the world. That, which for hundreds of years has been accepted as 'orthodox' or 'traditional' is being challenged and, in most cases, is successfully shaking the very foundations of conventional teaching and thought. This is a wonderful and privileged time of truly interesting and amazing discoveries. A common objection is that something new being discovered after all these centuries, even millennia, must be suspect and treated with the utmost caution. But the truth of the matter is that these discoveries are actually uncovering that which has already been revealed and has always been true, but has been lost to us in the annals of time and replaced by myths and human philosophy. In Judges 7:1-25, there is a powerful and encouraging word for those within the Body of Christ who are called to be spiritual warriors and revolutionaries by taking a stand for the proclaiming and teaching of the complete Word of God. These are the 'Gideon Remnant' who are chosen and called to be teachers, shepherds and evangelists of the fullness of the evangel as revealed by the apostle Paul in his ministry to the Nations. They are called from all walks of life and from the most unlikely places; some of them 'educated' but most not officially educated via Bible College or Seminary. Some are called to work within 'the Church' (or more correctly termed Christendom), but most are outside 'the Fold', having fellowship and sharing the Word with whoever calls on the Name of the Lord with a clean heart and unfeigned faith, seeking to walk in love and righteousness. They only recognise the One Body, which is invisible and universal. Their gifting can only be truly accepted by those who are spiritual, and who look beyond all manmade authority. Their main emphasis is on declaring the Justification, Reconciliation and (eventual) heavenly Glorification for all who are genuine believers in Christ. They will also proclaim the full worth of the cross of Christ within God's plan of the Ages, whereby all of the Father's creatures, in the celestials and on the earth, will ultimately be justified and reconciled to Him, through His Son, our Lord, Christ Jesus. 1

(See Romans 5:12-19; 1 Corinthians 15:20-28; Ephesians 1:10; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:15-20; 1 Timothy 2:3-7 and 4:9-11). Much importance will be laid upon the grace of God being shown to the world and 'the Body' at this time, which is grounded in His great love for us, and all creation. There is no room for boasting. Even those who are called to belong to this remnant are in no way separated from the rest of the Body in their standing before God. There is only One Body. It is only a matter of the individual calling and gifting of God, whereby the treasures of His grace and truth are proclaimed to the Body. We are all instruments of unrighteousness in the flesh. We are all infirm and powerless in the flesh. The flesh cannot please God - Period! So away with the religiosity, self-righteousness and unnatural behaviour of the 'stereo typed Christian' and the false ministries that are so prevalent today. Let us become balanced in our thinking and face up to the truth of who we really are in the flesh before God, because only then can we truly see and appreciate who we are in Christ, by faith, according to God's love and grace. We can be instruments of righteousness through the Spirit of God, which is at home within us. Now that's Grace! Now that's an Overcomer! (see Romans 6-8; Ephesians 2:1-10; 4:1-32; 5:1-21). Judges 7:1-25 For those who are unfamiliar with what could be termed Contemporary Prophetic Typology, here is a brief definition (for further reading see my article Typology). This is when God, by His Spirit, reveals a prophetic word contained within a specific passage of Scripture, whereby the meaning of the names of people and places, in accordance with the surrounding details, becomes extremely significant. Therefore, this passage should be approached allegorically to be able to clearly understand the word which is revealed there, in accordance with this study. So with this in mind, here are the relative meanings and the prophetic interpretation based on Judges 7: 1-25 -. (The word meanings are primarily taken from Strong's Concordance. Some scholars may disagree with the exact meaning of some of the words, but nevertheless, the primary message remains the same). Gideon --- meaning: one who cuts down, a warrior /Jerub-baal --- meaning: the master will contend Type: Christ, who is the ultimate Warrior and Contender - Revelation 19:11 2

All the Israelite men Type: The people of God, the Body of Christ - Ephesians 2: 19 Harod --- meaning: eye of trembling Type: A period of God's discipline - Philippians 2: 12-13 Midian --- meaning: to contest or quarrel Type: Those who oppose the people of God, the Adversary - 2 Tim 2: 25-26 Hill of Moreh --- meaning: according to Strong, this can mean flowing water; or one who shoots; or (by implication) a teaching Type: The false spirit, attacks and false teaching of the Adversary - 2 Peter 2: 17-19; Ephesians 4: 14 Mt. Gilead --- meaning: altars of testimony Type: The experience of God's precious love and power to the believing - Deuteronomy 27: 1-7 300 chosen men (the Gideon remnant) Type: The wise and believing remnant within the Body of Christ, who will rout the enemy by the word of truth - 2 Timothy 2: 1-4, 15, 20-21 Purah --- meaning: from a root, to beautify (or to explain) Type: The Holy Spirit of God, which gives us the power and illumination in times of spiritual conflict - 2 Corinthians 4: 6 3

The division into 3 companies Type: The believing remnant within the Body will have 3 major functions corresponding to evangelist, shepherd and teacher 1. Proclaiming the evangel of God; 2. Graciously loving the Body in accordance with truth; and 3. Authoritative teaching of the Scriptures with the father heart of God, in the footsteps of Christ and the apostle Paul (Ephesians 4:11-13; 1 Corinthians 11:1) Blowing of the trumpets Type: Declaring the word of God - Joel 2:15 Smashed jars and torches Type: Death of the flesh, so that God's glory is manifest - 2 Corinthians 4: 7 Oreb --- meaning: mosquito And Zeeb --- meaning: wolf Type: the Adversary and his servants - Philippians 3: 2 Summary of the Message In these last days, God is shaking the Body of Christ and sifting out an obedient and believing remnant, an overcoming remnant, who will proclaim the fullness of His truth as originally revealed by the risen, glorified Christ to the apostle Paul, defeating the enemy, in spirit, in these evil days. They shall illuminate the whole plan of God as revealed in His written Word, bringing balance and adjustment to the Body where it is needed; where there are extremes (or ignorance) of doctrine, which inevitably leads to error. There is a spiritual harvest coming and many shall reap the benefits of their hard labour, though some shall reap what they have not sown, 4

by entering into the labours of those who have gone before them (John 4:35-38). There is a 'revival' coming, but not the kind of revival that many are 'prophesying' will come! It will be a revival of truth that will parallel the days of the Apostle Paul. As the truth of Universal Reconciliation and other precious gems were lost to the Church and the world in the early centuries, so shall they be restored to the church and heralded to the world in the days ahead, though many will reject it. Mainstream Christianity will have to deal with the awful doctrine of Eternal Hell and no longer avoid the issue. The tidal wave of God's love and grace is going to soak the Church with its cleansing power before He turns to judge the Church, Israel and the world in righteousness. God is already beginning to raise up His spiritual warriors who will stand for truth and the glory of His Name with pure passion and zeal. Like John the Baptist, they will leave behind the mainstream religious traditions of Judaism/Christendom/Islam and they will enter the wilderness to proclaim the glorious gospel of Christ. Many will appear as unorthodox, non-conformist heretics, outside of the mainstream religion, but like David at the cave of Adullam, many will seek out and gather round these 'rebels' who proclaim the real Beloved - those who are discontented, those who feel robbed, those who have been oppressed and hurt by the mainstream religion, those who are hungry for God's truth and are sick of all the lies, hypocrisy, greed and mind control of the modern 'evangelical' machine of Christendom. They will seek the heart of the true Anointed King and Shepherd revealed in the hearts of His servants by His Spirit. Like the apostles, whom Christ called from their everyday mundane jobs, God's awesome grace will be very evident in the very ordinary lives of these soldiers of the Lord. Most of them will be schooled by the Holy Spirit under the mastership of Christ, and not by the religious authorities established among men. They will appear unconventional and 'on the fringe' as they serve their Lord in honesty and love. Like Joseph, who was put in prison for years for doing the right thing before God, the time is coming for those of us who are in our own 'jail,' where it seems that God has forgotten us, when the words of God shall be fulfilled and we shall go from the dungeon to the palace in one day. The ministry we have been preparing for shall at long last begin. The rains are coming! The harvest is approaching! I pray that all those who lap with their hands will arise and take their place in 'the Gideon Remnant'. (For further info, see also The Gideon Commission, Typology and The Elisha Anointing).
