Each Beatitude begins with Blessed meaning you are favoured by God. (Matthew 5:3-10) Each Beatitude ends with a promise of what we will inherit in heaven. The word Beatitude means abundant happiness. What a promise! The Nursery children have been thinking about how special we are to be loved by God.

God in Heaven, Hear my prayer, Keep me in thy loving care. Be my guide in all I do, Bless all those who love me too. Amen.

1) Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 5:3) The Reception class children have been thinking about how in this Beatitude Jesus is telling us to be humble and to place all our trust in God, knowing that God is always there for us. When we trust that God is in charge, we are humbled - which means we are poor in spirit. We ask God to please help us to be Trusting and Trustworthy.

1) Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 5:3) Dear Father, Please help us to remember that Jesus taught us that being poor in spirit means being humble and trustworthy. I want my heart to be peaceful. Help me to always trust in You. And to be trustworthy. Thank You, Father. Amen

1) Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 5:3) Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

2) Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted (Matthew 5.4) Year 1 have been picturing ourselves as curled up and resting in the palms of God s large, warm, loving hands. That s a heavenly picture. On earth, we sometimes experience sorrow or illness, when we experience sadness in our life, we can better understand the sadness in other peoples lives. Sorrowful experiences teach us how to be kind to others and to reach our to those in need. This is called compassion. We want to be compassionate to others.

2) Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted (Matthew 5.4) Dear Father, When we lose someone we love, we know that You Father, will comfort us. Remind me to turn to You and to ask for comfort. When I am sad, or when I hurt, please help me to remember that You always walk ahead of me, and that You are with me. Help me to be compassionate always. Thank You Father. Amen

2) Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted (Matthew 5.4) Blessed be God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort. (2 Corinthians 1:3)

3) Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5) Year 2 have been thinking about how Jesus is God the Almighty! But when He was on earth, He chose to be very meek and humble. He always obeyed His Father. Even when He knew He would die on the cross, He accepted His Father s will, even though He knew it would be very painful. Jesus is our model. He taught us to follow in His footsteps to listen and to learn from those who love us and guide us in life. Being meek and humble takes real effort, such as being nice to others even when we don t feel like it, or walking away from a fight, or admitting that we are wrong. All of these things, and more, require us to be humble.

3) Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5) Dear Father, I know that You love me more than I can ever, every really know. Please help me to be humble and to do your will. I really want to obey Your commandments. I want to be the kind and gentle person that Jesus said would inherit the earth. Please help me to be humble always Thank You, Father. Amen

3) Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5) With righteousness He shall judge the poor and decide with equity for the meek of the earth. (Isaiah 11:4)

4) Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled (Matthew 5:6) Year 3 H have been thinking about righteousness and we found it has 4 points; Doing the very best we can do in everything Trying to be the best person we can be Wanting to do what is right at all times and standing up for what is right Wanting what is right for others. This requires us to be cheerleaders for others and sometimes to put others before ourselves All of these things make us Alive in the Lord. We try to live the way God wants us to live, to follow His rules, and to do His will.

4) Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled (Matthew 5:6) Dear Father, I need help to really want to do the right thing. I know that sometimes I make excuses when I sin, and sometimes it is so hard not to follow the crowd. I need Your help. Please speak to me when I think of doing wrong. Let me hear Your will for me. I really need You to help me to be alive in you and live according to Your Word. Than You, Father. Amen

4) Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled (Matthew 5:6) Where sin is increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 5:20-21)

5) Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy (Matthew 5:7) Year 3L have been thinking about what it means to be merciful. Being merciful is being respectful, charitable, generous, compassionate, and patient toward others. It means showing kindness and love to others, especially those who are weak. When we are merciful to others, God promises mercy to us. We need God s help to remind us to care about others and to be respectful to ourselves, to each other and to God s world.

5) Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy (Matthew 5:7) Dear Father, I say the prayer that Jesus taught us Our Father who art in Heaven... almost every day. But I don t often think about what the words mean. When I pay attention to the words, I understand that I am supposed to praise You, obey You and always trust You. I know that You want me to forgive others. I need Your help to remind me to be respectful and to care about others. Please help me to grow in patience, kindness and compassion. Please help me to live my faith and to trust in You. Thank You, Father. Amen

5) Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy (Matthew 5:7) For judgement is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy; yet mercy triumphs over judgement. (James 2:13)

6) Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God (Matthew 5:8) Year 4 have been thinking about how we can be pure in heart. God asks us to strive to do the right thing for the right reasons. This means living our lives without always seeking personal gain. Being loving and pure in heart means that we are thankful for God s gifts, and that we recognise that living according to God s Word is more important than anything else and God s Word is LOVE.

6) Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God (Matthew 5:8) Dear Father, Please help me to want to be kind to others without always thinking of myself. Help me to do good things for others even if it means going out of my way when I don t feel like it. I want to do things because of my love for You. Please help me, Father, to make better choices, and to have a loving heart. Thank You, Father. Amen

6) Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God (Matthew 5:8) Truly God is good to the upright, to those who are pure in heart. (Psalms 73:1)

7) Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God (Matthew 5:9) Year 5 have been thinking about how we can be peacemakers. A peacemaker needs to have courage, which is why we have chosen the word encourage. It takes courage to be a peacemaker. Jesus said, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. In Jesus language, the word peace means being in the presence of God and doing God s work. In our own lives we see injustices things that are happening that aren t right, we need to be encouraging to each other to speak out for what is right.

7) Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God (Matthew 5:9) Dear Father, I really do know right from wrong, and yet I sometimes don t bother to say or do anything when children are being mean. Jesus wants me to be a peacemaker. Please give me the courage to safely do or say the right thing to encourage someone. If I cannot do this safely, please give me the courage to say something to a teacher or a parent who can be a good peacemaker. Help me to look for the good in others and be encouraging always. Thank You, Father. Amen.

7) Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God (Matthew 5:9) Peace be with you. (John 20:19)

8) Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 5:10) Year 6 have been thinking about what persecution is. Christ was persecuted when He was crucified on the cross. The early Christians were persecuted and killed because they believed in Christ. It is awesome to think about Christians who were persecuted throughout the centuries and how their selflessness made it possible for us to practice our faith today. Standing up for Christ is the right thing to do. Living our faith and being selfless is standing up for God s work.

8) Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 5:10) Dear Father, I am a Christian, so I know how important it is to praise You every day, and to give you thanks for all my blessings. Sometimes I need some help to be more selfless and to give You thanks for all of the blessings You give to me. Please remind me to thank Jesus for the sacrifice He made for me on the cross. And please, Father, help me not to hide the fact that I am a Christian. Thank You, Father. Amen

8) Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 5:10) Blessed are they who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times! (Psalms 106:3)
