! NOVMBR/DCMBR 2016 t. John s Lutheran Church He remembers His Testament forever Rev. Russel Reimers Burt, Iowa 50522 the Word he appointed for a thousand generations. Vacancy Pastor Phone: 515-924-3344 Psalm 105:8(JP) Phone: 507-236-6659 www.stjohnsburt.org Telling the good News about Jesus-In Burt, Iowa, and the World!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Changing of easons: As we look around us, in this part of the country, we see changes in the season. Fall is almost gone and winter is soon upon us. ach nice day is a chance to get a little more done before the cold snowy weather sets in. With the change in seasons comes a whole host of things that will happen in the next few weeks. Christmas is less then 2 months away and already in the stores and on the streets you can see signs of the holiday spirit. Thanksgiving marks the official start of the season however, if you have done any shopping in the last two months, you could not tell that things don t start until after Thanksgiving. As I think about the up coming months, I must admit that I enjoy the change of seasons that we see in this part of the country. With each change, a new look and a new venture is upon us. Our world is always changing before our eyes. As a child, I grew up with things the same and yet without knowing it things were changing all the time. I think back to the many Christmas ve s we spent with family at my Grandparents home and now all that has change as they have gone home to with the Lord. I think of the changes that have taken place in my life over the past years and some is for the good and I must admit some is not. But we must be ready to change because change is all around us. Christ s unchanging Love: When we look at the church, change often is slow or not at all. This is one area that change must be slow. Over two thousand years ago a change came to the world that would change mankind forever. Their in a stable in the town of Bethlehem, in a manger a avior was born. At first for many this change went unnoticed. But for a few blessed shepherds on a hill side outside of Bethlehem the announcement came and the Good News that the world had waited for had come. Christ in all of His love for mankind took the call of the Father to come to this world, to live a perfect life, and to die a perfect death so that mankind could gain back the perfect world that he had once loss so long ago. In a world of changes all around, it is a blessed joy to know that we have something that does not change. The is the unchanging love of our Lord. Christ s love for us was so great that it compelled Him to take our place at the Cross of Calvary. The words that He proclaimed in His walk upon the face of this earth are still as important as they were the first time that they were spoken. In fact one thing that has sadden me over the last few years is to see how Christianity across this country has take the view that the Holy Bible is no longer God s Word. That somehow we have a better insight into what is and what is not from God. This path that is being taken is a path that will lead mankind away from God. We must be that voice in the wilderness calling the world back to a right understanding of God s Word. As we celebrate the Christmas season, let us renew our resolve to share the Good News of God s Word with all of this world. May God grant each of you a blessed Christmas and a Christ filled New Year. Christmas Open House with Pastor s Family On December 4, 2016 From 11-1 pm Pastor, ue, Jewel, and Alacha Reimers would like to invite you to our Christmas Open House in the church basement of t. Paul s Lutheran Church, Wilbert. This open house gives us a chance to say thank you to t. Paul s, Our avior s Lutheran, and t. John s in Burt for your love and support this past year. Come join us for food and fellowship as we begin the celebration of our blessed aviors birth. Come hungry and join us for lunch on that day. Thanksgiving Blessings This Thanksgiving we have many things to be thankful for. We have our health, family, friends, and food on the table. We have been blessed by God with a good crop in our area and with a land that is free to speak the Word of God to others. We have homes that we can live in. We are truly blessed as God s people. Let us gather this coming Thanksgiving ve to give God thanks for the many blessings that He has given to us. This year because of the Vacancy at t. John s we will have our Thanksgiving worship service on Wednesday November 23 at 6:30 pm. Worship Our King As we prepare for the season of Christmas, we have the joy once again to gather as a people of God in this nation to celebrate the birth of a avior. Here at t. John s we will gather each unday in the season of Advent to prepare for the birth and for our celebration of the avior. As the 4 weeks of Advent start we will begin the preparation of Christmas. Like in our homes we see signs of Christmas decorating our worship service with the full church made ready by the end of Advent. We are a people waiting like a little kid for that special present that we know is coming. For us Christ is the greatest gift ever giving to mankind. This Christmas season here at t. John s will find a few changes needed in order to Celebrate the birth of our avior. Because of the commitment that Pastor Reimers has in his two churches for Christmas Day we will not hold our Christmas Day ervice here at t. John s. We encourage you to join a Christmas Day service at Trinity in Algona at 9 am or to join another LCM congregation for Christmas Day service of your choice. t. John s will have a Christmas ve ervice time to be announced by the end of November. The 500th Anniversary of the Reformation Reading God s Word in the year to come 500th Anniversary of the Reformation will be celebrated next year in our Church Body. There will be many things coming out in the year to come as we remember the blessing that God gave to us through Martin Luther 500 years ago. One of the of the many things that we have to express our faith and to remain faithful to God is in His Word. I am encouraging each of you to join me this coming year as we start reading the Bible in one year beginning with Reformation this year. On the back table in the church you will find a reading list you can take and put in your bible as you read along. May God bless us this coming year as we together see the blessings that God gives to us as we read His Word. Pastor Reimers
