ANDREW S UNITED CHURCH, GEORGETOWN, Sunday, June 18th Reader: Marie McMaster Greeters: Ginny Morecroft and Ralph Challice Usher: Margret VanderVoet Counters: Bruce Munro and Ross Yahiro AV Operators: Ryan Wilson and James Stringer Announcements: Worship Next week, June 25th Reader: Brendan Cunningham Greeters: Peggy & Jeannette Getty Ushers: Earl and Margaret Pepper Counters: Pat Moore and Lorne Campbell AV Operators: Bryan Scott and Howard Beitz Announcements: Worship Service this week at St. Andrew's June 18th, 2017-10:00 am Father s Day This week we celebrate Father s Day. It s a day to give thanks to God for the gift of fathers to us. In the scriptures, we can see many biblical fathers who have been influential to the story of God. Our first scripture from Genesis 18, begins with Abraham, who was called to be the father of a great nation, the people of Israel. Abraham at an advanced age in his life was called by God to lead the people. Abraham and his wife Sarah were the parents to many nations historically. In the gospel reading from Luke 15, we look at the story of the Prodigal son. It is the father who lovingly welcomes the wayward son home after desolate living. The father in this parable represents God, the father who offers unconditional love to all of us. On Father s Day we think about what our father s did for us. We give thanks to the father s in our lives and to those men who have had an influence on our life journey. In the service, we will explore the ways that fathers are a gift to us. Scripture Reading: Genesis 18:1-15 Proverbs 4:1-7 Luke 15: 11-24 Sermon: The Gift of Fathers

from the Pews Page 12 Page 12 Grant s World This past week has been a busy one for me. Over the weekend I was in Temagami with the men s club relaxing and enjoying the company of other men in the congregation. Graeme Thompson once again hosted us on Island 198 where he and his wife Nancy own and stay for the summer months. I believe that this year was one of the best years for weather ever up there. It was warm, mostly dry and no wind the entire weekend. Some of us even went swimming in the lake, although it was a little chilly at only 62 degrees F! Over the weekend we celebrated Canada 150 through some wonderful cuisine. A team of men spent weeks planning and testing various foods and beverages to be sure they would meet the mark of the high standards the men have for the retreat. We ate foods from each province and territory of Canada including meals like; Ontario Pork ribs, Alberta beef steaks, Atlanta Salmon, Saskatoon Berry pie, Poutine from Quebec, Jiggs beef and cabbage dinner from Newfoundland and much, much more. We even had a wine and cheese party to sample beverages, cheese and crackers from all areas of the country. Yes, we enjoyed eating but the black flies and mosquitos also enjoyed sampling us too! Blessings, Grant
