REFLECTIONS All human strength, gifts, abilities, and life itself, along with the material resources out of which wealth has been created, are the gift of God. We are as little the makers of our own strength as we are the makers of the earth This is the first principle of biblical economics. The earth is the Lord's and everything in it, but he has given it to the human race for our use. Christopher Wright Money, that tainted thing, can symbolize what we become if we surrender to avarice, or it can symbolize responsible stewardship. Perhaps the power of money lies in this, that more than most things, it reveals where we stand. Frances Teresa Oh my dear Christians! If you would be like Christ, give much, give often, give freely, to the vile and poor, the thankless and the undeserving. Christ is glorious and happy, and so will you be. It is not your money I want, but your happiness. Remember his own word, It is more blessed to give than to receive R. M. M'Cheyne (1813-1843) Scottish Pastor and Missionary

PRELUDE Please use this time for prayer and meditation as we prepare to go before the living God in worship. PRAISE CALL TO WORSHIP: from Psalm 89 Pastor: I will sing of the steadfast love of the Lord, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. All: Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones! Pastor: O Lord God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O Lord, with your faithfulness all around you? All: The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours; the world and all that is in it, you have founded them. Pastor: Come, let us worship. HYMN OF PRAISE: 376 Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty PRAYER OF PRAISE AND THE LORD'S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen. 2

C O N F E S S I O N SCRIPTURE READING: Leviticus 6:1-7 1 2 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, If anyone sins and commits a breach of faith against the Lord by deceiving his neighbor in a matter of deposit or security, or through robbery, or 3 if he has oppressed his neighbor or has found something lost and lied about it, swearing 4 falsely in any of all the things that people do and sin thereby if he has sinned and has realized his guilt and will restore what he took by robbery or what he got by oppression or 5 the deposit that was committed to him or the lost thing that he found or anything about which he has sworn falsely, he shall restore it in full and shall add a fifth to it, and give it to 6 him to whom it belongs on the day he realizes his guilt. And he shall bring to the priest as his compensation to the Lord a ram without blemish out of the flock, or its equivalent, for 7 a guilt offering. And the priest shall make atonement for him before the Lord, and he shall be forgiven for any of the things that one may do and thereby become guilty. Leader: All: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! CORPORATE CONFESSION OF SIN: Almighty God, we know that the heavens, the earth and all that is in them belong to you. Though you have created all things for your glory, we confess that we are tempted to see the world and the things in it with selfish eyes and greedy hearts. In our sin, we withhold what you want us to share and we take what you have given to others. Please forgive us. Help us to learn the benefit of godliness with contentment. Holy Spirit, as you transform us, please help us to be generous with others so that Christ's generosity and glory would be displayed for the world to see. In His name we pray, Amen. SILENT REFLECTION AND CONFESSION WORDS OF ASSURANCE & PEACE OF GOD: from 1 John 4 Pastor: In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. All: In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Pastor: Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. The peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. HYMN: How Deep the Father s Love for Us (lyrics on page 6) 3

C O M M I T M E N T OFFERTORY PRAYER OFFERTORY Presentation of tithes & offerings DOXOLOGY (Hymnal, page 731) AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: Nicene Creed Leader: Christian, what do you believe? People: I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made. Who, for us and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end. And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. SERMON: Calloused Hands, Tender Hearts Rev. Jeff Pate HYMN: 434 Lord, Thou Lov st the Cheerful Giver st. 1-2 RESPONSIVE READING: Pastor: All: God nourishes us in the sacraments, means of grace in which his deeds elicit our response. In the supper our Lord offers the bread and cup to believers to guarantee our share in his death and resurrection, and to unite us to him and to each other. We take this food gladly, announcing as we eat that Jesus is our life and that he shall come again to call us to the Supper of the Lamb. H O W D E E P T H E F A T H E R S L O V E 1. How deep the Father's love for us, How vast beyond all measure, That He should give His only Son To make a wretch His treasure. How great the pain of searing loss - The Father turns His face away, As wounds which mar the Chosen One Bring many sons to glory. 2. Behold the man upon a cross, My sin upon His shoulders; Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice Call out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held Him there Until it was accomplished; His dying breath has brought me life - I know that it is finished. 3. I will not boast in anything, No gifts, no power, no wisdom; But I will boast in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer; But this I know with all my heart - His wounds have paid my ransom.
